Story #2. I think the narrator is completely wrong on this one. I do not think the OP was the jerk at all. The wife was not an active labor. She was in early labor. There is a difference. The only thing you can do in early labor is wait. It was not like he was on his phone while she was in active labor. That would make him a jerk. And when she did ask him to put away the phone, he did. The story even goes on to say that once active labor started, he was back in the room.

Being in labor for 27 hours is not only painful and exhausting it is dangerous for mother and child. It is not normal! One or both could die, anyone in the medical field could tell you that. You children who have never witnessed childbirth shouldn't comment. OP is a jerk and owes his wife MORE than an apology.

Story 2: I was in labour once. When you have pain like this, even small things can tick you off and yes you can lash out at your significant other, but you have to see, that the husband in this story is nervous too and has his own coping mechanismen to go through that time. Both of them have to apologize to each other. He for dimissing her feelings at the time by saying "She owes him an apology." and she for dismissing his needs for distraction. Believe me if I say, that a nervous husband in the delivery room is more nerve-racking than anything else.

Yeah but, and I don’t mean to be rude, wouldn’t she still owe him an apology regardless? People are still responsible for their actions. I’m not saying like the second the baby pops out she should apologize but at the very least a few hours later when she’s more calm, you know? Like “hey, I’m sorry for how I acted, I was going through a lot and I kind of took it out on you. I promise you didn’t do anything wrong, I was just stressed. I’m sorry.” Like I don’t think it’s unreasonable for him to want an apology.

@@artistmaybe3259 He was dismissive afterwards, when he said, that she is the only one that has to apologize. What she wanted from him was to be focused on her at that time, a thing he didn't do. Then she lashed out, because of the pain and frustation. Don't get me wrong, she is at fault too, because she didn't tell him her wishes beforehand and then she lashed out (he is not a mind reader after all). But he has to understand that he made her more stress than necessary.

@@dangodaikazoku7322 okay yeah that’s fair. I’m just thinking from the mindset of she was okay with it at first, they were just waiting for the baby to be ready to come out, not much to do. And he had no idea she wasn’t okay with it until she got upset and stressed with him. If he did it intentionally I would understand easier I guess. Not trying to be like “no you’re wrong” just trying to understand. In the end apologies don’t hurt, and he should definitely apologize just in case to make her feel better

I want to believe that the wife was having a rough time so yeah she was snappy, I think neither should have to apologize, but if someone is demanding an apology they should also be one to give one as well. She was highly hormonal but that's not a reason to demand an apology, I also think that he should understand the difficulties of birthing a child. I think they should either just be happy about their child or at worst apologize to each other/maybe if they would actually talk about it then it would be good.

Second story: OP does not owe an apology, he’s not the jerk. Theres actions called “coping skills” to cope with stress, and this might be that situation. I believe, the wife overreacted (maybe because of the pain she was feeling). So, I believe she’s the one who need to apologize and not the OP. The narrator is absolutely wrong about this one!

Story 2 op is not the jerk. When je was asked he put his phone away. Then he started doing other things to help pass the time because thats all you can do when you aren't in action labor. The wife never said what she wanted and just told him to leave and thats it. He was doing what he could until it was time to for the actual labor. No op os not the jerk

I disagree with your point with story 2. Op wasn't in Active labour. When you aren't in active labour all you can do it wait. OP put phone away the first time. OP shouldn't apologise for trying to get his mind off worrying. As well as he's also fidgeting? HES NERVOUS? like who wouldn't be nervous (Tapping you foot and fidgeting with your hands?) It's a normal occurrence. Its sad that he was shamed for feeling nervous. My mom was in labour with me for 47 hours. My dad was fidgeting cause of how nervous he was. My mom didn't shame him nor be angry with my father. If people try to say anything under my comment to make me understand sure ill read them. But also know that husbands have a hard time too.

Exactly. My wife was in labor with our youngest for 26 hours. I think I slept maybe 6 hours the whole time due to nerves and being worried due to it taking so long.

Story 1: I feel bad for Mike. The OP said he wasn’t a bad kid and it shows. He subverts the smart, but lazy trope by wanting to direct his energy towards French instead of English. Why is his crazy mom so insistent that he learn English? She caused this whole quagmire by not letting her son study French instead of English like she wanted. Just so you know, I almost died in childbirth they actually had to do a emergency Caesarean and like he said the labor was fine she slept through most of it and then she started to become more uncomfortable so he stopped playing chess you know like he didn't know and I don't understand he was bouncing his leg and doing his fingers on the bed I don't think he was being out of line at all by doing that at Labor can take like 24 hours or more by the way. So as a woman who was pregnant I don't think he was out of line. I don't think anyone is really at fault here I don't think anyone owes apologies but she was kind of being Snappy which is understandable so I'm not blaming anything on her

Story 2 - I have to disagree with the Narrator. Yes, Op was on his Phone, which the Wife was fine with it at first, but when she told him to put away, Op did. But then he moved his Leg and fingers due to nervousness WHICH mind you is normal for anyone in Op's situations. but instead of putting his mind at ease, she outright lost it with him and when asked what she wanted, he told HIM to leave, which he obliged. Even his In-laws were on his side. So that goes to show that Op is NOT the Jerk. And then she demands an apology from Op, which is for what, doing what she asked? Playing on his Phone that he put away and she had no problem with at first? if it's for walking out then yeah maybe, but she owes Op an apology too for lashing out like she did. Pregnant or not, that is no excuse to treat someone who was there for you by your side, only for you tell them to politely EFF off.

Story 2 I disagree here. We had 2 babies and my wife never snapped at me once she told me what she needed. During the first birth I told her to go back to sleep she needed to rest but the baby was literally coming lol. She said see told u so and it was the end of it. She owes him the apology.

Story 2: sorry narrator i dont agree with you on that one. Ive been in labor before and can honestly say i was having contractions for 4 days and was not expecting my baby's father to just pay attention to me that whole time, that'd be pretty ridiculous at least in my opponion. this is all non active labor at least. Active labor would be a different story though cuz that shiz hurts. Its like OP's mom said though, all women need different things so who knows maybe most other mothers wouldnt agree with me. Although I would say to the op to try not to take what his wife said personally. Some woman can say some really mean things when they're having contractions that they don't really mean. What she said to you is actually not that bad compared to some of the things I've heard women say to their husband's. I think op needs to lighten up a bit.

He was attentive and holding her hand throughout the 27 HOUR labor. He’s extremely anxious and she was in labor. It was there first child. Emotions were running high, both are nta.

@@GiordanDiodatoand he was he was with her for majority of the labor i know people whose father didnt even show up until after the birth already happened and the mother was ready to be discharged imo the father is fine and the mother is too its the first pregnancy he did everything he was asked of and she get him out when she wanted no one is at fault especially since the chess game part happened in early labor so baby wasn’t even being pushed out yet dont get me wrong tho i can not imagine how painful child birth is but you also have to think about how terrifying it is for the husband as well so he just tried to not think about it while being with her

OK I want to comment on story number three cause I really disagree with the narrator on that one. I see both sides of the story but he’s saying oh this families being selfish because they want to change the date so they’re certain family members could come. OK your original poster is wanting to go on that vacation disease certain family members, so how is one-sided selfish for wanting to see their family and for their family to want to be at the party but the original poster isn’t selfish for wanting to go on a vacation to see his family that would mean no sense. so I’m not to be rude I wanted to correct the narrator on that one because it does not make any sense.

For story 2 It was early labor when that happened so idk maybe anyone with a condition that makes it hard to stay still or maybe just maybe after a few hours of just doing nothing it could and would be very VERY boring so yeah I dont think he was the Ah but i also dont think the mother was either the amount of stress she must be in is crazy so it make sense why the tapping and stuff annoyed her fast this just seems like a situation where no one is in the right but no one is also technically wrong either

Story 2: OP is a massive a-hole. He was there to support his wife who was in active labour. He should have been focused on her not thinking of how bored he was. Ultimately everybody in the birthing room must be attentive to the mother so OP should apologise not double down complaining about how he was bored. He seems so immature and his wife probably regrets making him a father.
