You have made some of Nita’s techniques very approachable! Nita Engle is THE reason I started trying to master watercolor quite a few years ago. I happened upon some of her work in the window of a frame shop in Kalamazoo and was entranced. Eventually, I did a weeklong workshop with her near Marquette, MI. It turned out to be her last workshop, although she lived a number of years afterward. She stretched full sheets of WC paper onto plywood boards and slung them around every which way, repeatedly, with a large squirt bottle to move the paint and make it do its thing. Hers was an extremely physical way of painting. I was tired just watching her! ;) The workshop was way over my head, very advanced, and yet I treasure every moment there. I found out that week that Nita was very shy and lived reclusively on the shore of Lake Superior. She bonded with my husband, who is an entomologist and birder, over nature, tramping through the woods, and doing things like canoeing, and she invited us out to her cottage. We didn’t get to go inside, but we did spend a little time walking with her. Truly an amazing artist! Thanks again for making these techniques accessible. You have made my day, as I just stumbled over this video while looking for something else. I love how you teach.

This really is food for thought. Letting go and not fretting about the result, be it work of art or just a mess is so important. Great, tutorial!
