I literally broke my tooth on a cherry in a restaurant. I QUIETLY told the server who got the Manager/Owner and he told me to find out the, cost of fixing my tooth and he would pay. When i went back to get the money to pay the dentist, he had the server with him and i was, again, very respectful and made sure he knew how awesome the server was! At no time did i blame them for my tooth because THEY did not make the cherries and it wasnt their fault one slipped through with the pit still in it! Turned out - the server was his WIFE! surprise lol 😂 . After that,,whenever i went there, the Owner would stop at my table and say hello 😊. Being kind costs nothing.

6-7 years ago the owner of the Café I always had my lunch in apologized to me, just in case the service was off the day before, because the server (his wife) collapsed because of the heat shortly after I left. In turn I apologized to the both of them for not noticing that something was off and helping, because I had a hard time to keep my mind in the here and now due to the heat as well. Luckily the wife did not get hurt and other guests were able to help her at the time. It was the hottest day of the summer that year and we had a record of people needing medical attention for heat exhaustion.

I’ve refused a table before. It was my exes family and the host thought I was joking but I was like yeah no way in hell. And another time when a man started insinuating that I was racist and ableist. I was trying so hard to get to the table on the time they wanted. I came too early , I just left them out there for too long. His words not mine and he said I came out too early cause he thought I was rushing their ordering when I was just asking if they had any questions about the menu SO far. ( I always say so far so people don’t think I want their order idc take your time) And then after all of this (there was a lot more through out the dinner) he had the audacity to say I was being racist cause he’s Italian (ok so am I , my fathers side of the family is so shove it up your butt) and his wife was in a wheelchair so I was also being “ableist” he said I was treating them differently when I was bending over backwards for them. Luckily his wife felt so bad for me and she took the bill and tipped 22% and I told my manager I will never be taking that table again. They come in pretty often and really funny how he said I was treating him different cause he’s Italian because we have to give them our Hispanic servers because all the “white people are probably offensive to him” It was so ridiculous. Also the managers response to that table is abhorrent. We would’ve never allowed them back in. Or we wouldn’t have comped everything. Luckily I work at a small business so the managers understand if you refuse a table there’s a damn good reason.

I worked in a pub kitchen for 11 years, for all of those years a particular family attended EVERY Saturday evening. The wife of the family constantly complained EVERY SINGLE WEEK and had parts of her bill comped all the time. until we had a new manager, that new manager Week 1 had this woman berating him over her meal he called over the head waitress asked her “ is this the serial moaner?” Waitress “ Yes” manager “ ok NO not having these outbursts anymore, if you have issues with the food or drinks here every week for the past 6 years then feel free not to come back” turned around and walked away. No comp happened. Her and her family never returned. BEST MANAGER EVER

This exactly. Karens are unreasonable. The person in the last story was simply standing up for themselves and holding the company to what they promised. Start demanding extras and everything else afterward? THAT would be the Karen behavior, which didn't happen.

When analysing behaviour, I ask myself whether it is 'standing up for yourself' or 'standing on other people'. Whichever the behaviour represents the most, defines if someone is a Karen or not. Phrases such as "I demand" or "I want" are good indicators, trying to be calm and rational is another, as well as if they could walk away but is choosing not to.

15:11 hi, fish keeper here. Fish being held out of water for a couple minutes is about the same as a person holding their breath underwater, so it may be uncomfortable, but if it’s only for a few minutes, it’s perfectly fine. In fact, gills can actually process some oxygen from the air, which is more than what you can say for humans breathing underwater. Most recreational fishing, at least in my area, is catch and release, which means pulling them out for a quick photo, taking out the hook, and tossing them back in. Compared to the dangers in their natural environment, a hole left by the hook is little more than a split lip. There are even species that we are meant to take out, like invasive carp species. Their only natural predator is humans, and they out compete native species, threatening ecosystems. You’ll often find that those most concerned about the actual conservation of animals, is in fact, the people who hunt them.

Yes I've noticed a 'stewardship' mindset often in people who hunt. Ducks Unlimited comes to mind. They do a great job of advocating for habitat. (I'm not a hunter, I've just noticed it.) I don't think they're all like that, there seem to be some gun-happy types too, and I don't get trophy hunting at all.

I'm a biologist who did a study on fish (heavy metal concentrations on their gills and livers), and we went to a lake where they did recreational fishing like this. I don't know if it is the same way everywhere, but the people who did this at the lake usually had a bucket of water next to them where they put the fish, so they were out of the water for less than a minute. Then they were thrown back.

No, research shows that a fish hook makes it much harder for that fish to eat. Hunters as conservators is a myth. You can be allowed to kill the invasive species, that’s a win/win for hunters and conservation. But it’s an exception

the way she said "their lungs collapse" when fish dont even have lungs SENT ME. edit: i know staying out of water is not ok for fish, duh. it's the fact that she didn't know that fish have gills instead of lungs was and still is funny. this is like elementary school biology.

I mean, a fish’s gills will collapse if they are kept out of the water for too long. It’s kinda like trying to separate the pages of a waterlogged book. Or two same-size wet buckets. Doesn’t really work with all that surface tension. But yeah, I don’t have the context for that yet.

It does stress out the fish when they stay out of the water for too long, but as long as there have water droplets on their gills they should breath just fine. If they completely dry out then that's a problem

Yep, as soon as they were being disrespectful, they would have been given a choice - play nice or leave. Once they kicked off about the salads, it would no longer have been their choice. TTFN, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out. This is why I like living and working in the UK. We don't have a tip culture, so people don't feel that they have to put up with BS. Waiters and waitresses aren't reliant on tips. We also aren't afraid to tell people to get out... My cousin runs a very successful pub that is very popular for Sunday lunches. I've helped her out a few times over the years, when I've been off and she's been short staffed. We don't ask much - just that you're respectful to staff and other customers - but zero tolerance stops people trying it on (or coming back and being a repeat offender), and that actually attracts business, because decent people don't want their meal ruined by disrespectful people at another table, and they know they won't get that at my cousin's place.

Before I moved away and left my current job as manager in training for this chain of gas stations, I made it my mission to teach all my cashiers and everyone who came after me that if a customer is treating you like crap you do not have to take it. As a representative of the store you work for you have every right to tell someone to leave and if they do not leave in their own you have every right to have them removed by the police. I received a lot of abuse during covid and frankly it was a lesson I wish I had learned much sooner. Nobody has a right to verbally abuse you, paying customer or not. Their money is not worth it, and while I was fortunate that my employers would rather lose one shitty customer than a hard working employee, I wanted to be the first to give my cashiers and future replacements permission to stand up for themselves, even in an environment where other employers or managers might not be willing to give them the same courtesy.

Lol they'd have hated me, because I would have said "Thanks! I really appreciate you compensating me the $150 for the aggravation of having to call in after being billed incorrectly and the credit you agreed to on our contract being taken away. SO, when do you plan on putting the trade in credit back on since it was in the contract?" And then if they tried to dodge it or say can't get both, ask "Do you somehow now feel I am no longer "inconvenienced" by your incorrect billing and spending all day on the phone if you agree to eventually do what you said you would to begin with in the trade credit?" Lol

I disagree. She is a Karen with an exaggerated and made up story. As a consumer, it’s our responsibility to investigate, research, and read before making purchases. That includes promotions. I buy a lot of tech products myself. I also know how to do more then log into an app to pay my bills. Every carrier under “bill” on their app has a section that says, “view billing details.” You click the pdf and boom, you got your full detailed bill. Also on the billing tab for each carrier, it generally shows your promo’s, equipment, and account history. Which has 2 years worth of receipts, documents, promotions they were approved for, and more. It shouldn’t take a person more than 3 months to realize they are paying too much. She said she got her new phone in Sept. the credit was for $800 with trade in. Her instant credit was $285. She most likely got 1 of the new iPhone 15’s. They launched in Sept. depending on plan, the promo credit was up to $800. Her paid off trade in fair market value was $285. Her device had to be paid off in full to trade in as well to qualify for the promo. The promo didn’t give fair market value plus $800. It was up to $800 total. Meaning her device and plan qualified for up to $800, but you can use $285 from the fair market value towards the upfront purchase or as a lump some bill credit. Or pay the $285 extra upfront to make it wash the difference on the bill. I believe Verizon does 36 months of financing. If she got an iOS 15 which full retail is $830. Break $830 over 36 months $23.06. That’s if she was eligible for 100% financing. The stipulation of all promo’s, they require to use your personal available credit line in case the customer breaks the terms of the qualifying promotion. Now the full promo is $800. The promo allowed $285 of the promotion to be used as fair market value towards the upfront purchase, taxes, connection charge, down payment if there was 1, and accessories. What isn’t used is left and added as a lump sum credit or the customer can use it to go towards the device itself to lower the monthly installments, but she didn’t. So $800-$285=$515 is the credit left from the $800. That $515 is broken over 36 monthly credits if $14.31. Her phone costs $830 over 36 months @ $23.06 minus her monthly promo credit. Makes her responsible for $8.75 a month on the difference for her phone installments. She said her Verizon app said 1 thing but the rep told her something else. She said they told her a break down. I believe her story time was embellished, bc what sense does it make for someone who doesn’t know her to tell her that her bill is $800 more then what her app states and that amount is the same price as the promo offering for a series of phones that start at $830 and go up from there? It wasn’t $800 more. They explained the promo break down, the full cost of device broken into payments then whatever plan, features, services, and taxes. Maybe late fee’s or restorable fee’s could have been added. We don’t know her or her payment history. Also all promotions require the devices to be financed for a minimum amount of time before paying off early to be able to keep the promo credits. Promo’s require specific plans and services to stay and if changed at any time, can disqualify you from receiving the remainder of promotion. If you cancel before the end date of the promotional credits, you lose those credits and the remainder of the unpaid device is billed out. She’s left out details intentionally. This information is also on the Verizon app. It’s not a secret. She also signed a minimum of 3 times and clicked a few, “I consent.” If she chose not to read the details of what she signed, legally that’s on her. Not her sales rep at the store. They didn’t hold her hostage and force her to sign anything for a new phone or promotion. Idk how Verizon works but some stipulations of the promo requires a 4 point inspection of the device being traded in. If the 3rd party company receives the device and finds damage, they charge the carrier. The carrier can disqualify the promo. The carrier generally sends a letter in the mail unless that store ate the charge for the customer which is why stores will deny the trade in and auto disqualify you for the promotion.

1 last thing before I fall asleep. I’ve read every communications companies terms of network. Every consumer signs an agreement if this terms of network use. It protects the company so each government entity that regulates these laws doesn’t sue the communications company’s. Instead will go after the consumer. So when you send a group text with a hyperlink in the subject of 25 or more with out sending each individual person a text with permission, the frc, fcc, and so many other government entities can go after the consumer for lots of money for spamming the network.

My mother once yelled at a manager for pulling our waitress into the back to yell at her for bringing another waitress' table their water on her way to get our order. It was a Sunday brunch rush and our waitress came from the back looking ready to cry so my mom looked around the section (mom spent 15 years in food service) saw no one needed anything for the immediate moment scooted herself over and invited the waitress to sit down and look at pictures of our new puppy while we decided what to order. Manager kept walking past every few minutes while we were there. when I was like 8 or 9 yo, my parents used to take us kids to a Chinese restaurant like once a month to "reward" our good grades. Said restaurant was always full, like packed, but my parents were good friends with the owners and they treated us kids as if we were their grandkids. They knew we were coming the last weekend of the month, every month, for like a year and a half, so they had a table reserved for our family of 5, plus extra chairs in case my grandparents tagged along. One day we were eating, having a good time and the table next to ours started complaining about everything, from the drinks not being cold enough to the waiter taking "such a long time" to "do the one job they have" (the waiters literally took maybe 2 mins tops to take an order from a party of 10, and they never made a mistake, ever). my dad was getting visibly pissed off, but my mom told him to relax and ignore the dude. BUT then, the guy that was complaining, really loudly, said something very racist against Chinese and asian people in general, and my dad literally got up, turned around in like .1 second and grabbed the dude from the shirt and, without saying a word, dragged him outside and started punching him so hard that two other guys had to stop him. I'll never forget that day, and the owners didn't either, because every time we go they still talk about how my dad "saved them"

The server story could be my mother. She delighted In tormenting servers. She would start the meal by making an issue of how long or how fast the server arrived (didn’t matter ). She would then send back every single thing she received saying it was dirty or not made correctly (no matter how she asked for it to be). She would also order outrageous substitutions and modifications intended to make the server uncomfortable (like requiring the cook and server to wear gloves and to remove the insides of a bun or bagel). Sometime, when the nice server would comply and bring the food exactly the way she asked for it, she would berate the server and ask her why her food was like that. At the end of the meal she would demand to speak to the manager and ask for a comp’d meal. You may think she did this for a free meal, but It took me a long time to realize she just enjoys making people miserable. For a little while I would excuse myself to the bathroom and find the server and apologize profusely and tip her 25-30% (my mother never tipped). Eventually I just cut her from my life completely. I still feel bad for any server who has the misfortune of getting her at their table.

I grew up in a family-run restaurant. A customer ordered a salsa salad and was specifically told "served with salsa dressing, not real salsa." The order came out and the customer freaked out on the waitress about the dressing and demanded to speak to a manager. The waitress said that the owner/manager (my Dad) is also the cook and is very busy (as it was the lunch rush), and tried to offer the customer other options. The customer refused and demanded again to speak to the manager. The waitress went and got my Dad, who left the grill and came to the front to listen to the customer complain and demanding something else. After listening to her, he took the bill (written by hand back then) from the waitress, ripped it into pieces, threw it in the lady's face, told her to not come back, and went back to the kitchen to cook for the rest of the restaurant. One of my favourite days as a server, lol.

We ALWAYS tell the customer to keep their drop-off receipt for AT LEAST a few months because there are so many instances where customers have come back to us saying Verizon is trying to charge them a huge chunk of money because "they never returned their phone"... but when we track the package with the tracking number on their receipt it shows it was delivered, signed for, and accepted by an employee at a Verizon facility elsewhere.... THIS made me think of my awesome third shift manager at Denny's who had absolutely no problem asking rude customers to leave. She could always tell when people were trying to scam us and she wasn't afraid to call the police if they refused to leave. Thank God for managers who understand the situation and step up. Every single time I had a Karen customer cause a ruckus my manager had my back because she knew ALL my other customers loved me and would request to be seated in my section EVEN if they had to wait. One thing I've learned in the business of serving is regular normal people actually feel bad for having a complaint about the food (like me!!!!! Half the time I don't even complain I just ask for a to go box cuz I don't want to upset anyone because I'm a people pleaser who has a picky eater reputation that I'm not exactly proud of) and if there truly is an issue worth complaining about people are super nice and patient about it, they're grateful when you get them a fresh order or comp them. And they will still tip you because they understand the kitchen is out of your control honestly. If it's so terrible they'll never come back. But they usually would come back and even congratulate me and the cooks when we got it right and even joke about it like yay we did it! They understand people are human. Hi, someone who studies marine biology- fish’s “lungs” (gills) only collapse when they are out of water if they’re a deep sea fish, like an angler fish or a blob fish. Blob fish look like normal fish until they’re brought onto the surface, where they then essentially explode due to the pressure change. Normal fish won’t do that when brought out of water for short periods of time. Though I don’t like fishing, it doesn’t mean all fishermen are murdering

A customer (usually a woman wanting a celebration cake) demands to place an order for a time we're told we DON'T HAVE OPEN, which I tell her, and suddenly, manager appears and says, "Oh sure, we can put that in for you!" I have many other stories, and have long since moved on from that job, but it still disgusts me how she was so willing to make the rest of us look bad/ incompetent, just so she could get the praise for saving the day and climb the corporate ladder!

Foster momma here, if police were called they will more than likely also be calling CPS to launch an investigation since there’s a child involved. Sadly, they probably wont take the child into custody unless there’s clear and present risk of danger to the child, but she will at minimum be under CPS involvement for a while and need to work a case plan to prove to rehabilitate herself. Hopefully she’s able to turn her life around and make better choices for the sake of her little one. If she’s unable, then I hope the child goes to a safe and kind home who properly cares for her.

Agreed. Being drunk, violent, and in charge of a child is a very bad combination. It's the sort of thing that kid will be talking to a therapist about in 20 years. And if she can flip on a complete stranger like that, in public, when she knows she's being recorded by multiple people, what on earth is she doing behind closed doors? I shudder to think what that child has seen. The foster system is no picnic, but CPS involvement might at least scare this woman into reevaluating her priorities and putting her child first.

@eer6759 I hope so, for the kid's sake more than anything. For her to be so confident in her attack, and for her child to look so defeated by the situation, it does suggest that this isn't her first rodeo, but I hope I'm wrong. I don't think any of us on the thread are interested in ruining the woman's life - we just see a child that needs protection and safety, which is why we are hoping that relevant agencies can assist. CPS involvement doesn't automatically mean the child is removed. In fact, if the mother is only just starting to go down the wrong path, it will give her access to parenting classes and help so that she can be a better parent for her child- which would be the best outcome for them both. (Edited to fix typo)

If you leave them out for like…. 10 minutes or more, probably they will die even if you toss them back, but if you keep them in a bucket of water or if you keep them out long enough to snap a quick pic and toss them back, they always swim away. The hook in their lip doesn’t give them a fatal injury. I’ve watched them swim away completely fine. I’m sure it’s not pleasant to have a hook in the mouth, but I’ve seen people get snake bite piercings intentionally, so it’s probably about the same pain for a fish.

Yes I agree with this. I had to do this recently too, I was politely requesting something to be done - I was the middle man between my bank and my utilities company. (Payment didn’t go through one month and no one could figure out why.) The utilities company wanted written confirmation that I didn’t redact the payment. The bank lady kept telling me the same thing over and over, not validating my request. I had spoken to someone else before her (this was my second call in my back and forth game between the two companies) so I knew what I was asking could be done. She repeated herself so many times I finally stole the words out of her mouth because I had memorized her line and demanded to speak to a supervisor. My favorite is after asking to speak to the supervisor, the same person you were talking to comes back. Like no, I don’t want to hear your voice anymore.
