Any thoughts on Minoxidil vs adaptogens like the Ouai serum
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Adaptogens are apart of the 'herb and botanical' family which is always a great route to do because you don't have to deal with the side effects of synthetic options...so go for it!

Great info, thank you! What are your thoughts on density serums? I recently bought one from Living Proof. Now I’m thinking I just gave away money.
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Somd density serum (similar to other scalp care products that products growth and density) have ingredients that do many things, including stimulate growth, elongate growth cycle, etc. So don't throw the bottle away! LOL! But keep in mind topical products don't replace internal care and deficiencies, so GROW DIFFERENTLY and take that holistic approach as well -- this approach will truly MAXIMIZE your results on your topical products.

I developed female pattern hair loss, while no one in my family has it. For me it is more because I had problems with my period, but I don't have PCOS. However, I do have hormonal imbalances, iron deficiency, and lots. of stress. In the future I would like to do a hair transplant. But for now I still have a lot of hair on my scalp. Of course my hair became thinner in recent years, but it is not visible that I suffer from hair loss, however, my mom and I know what my hair looked like when I was little, in my teens and until my mid twenties.

Hey...So I just developed female pattern hair loss too although no one in my family has it either....of course I did opioids for ten years so that might have something to do with it. I also have a hormonal imbalance and tons and tons of stress as well. I feel you. What are you planning on doing? I already started minoxidil, the only problem is that I don't have kids yet, so I would have to quit taking it to get pregnant☹. What is your plan? Have they put you on Spironolactone yet?

Do you have any suggestions for women who's hair changed after chemo? My sister is a breast cancer survivor (thank God), but her thin-ish, course hair grew back very thin, wavy and fine like our mom's. It's so thin that you can see parts of her scalp. We've not been able to find anything helpful and would appreciate any advice.
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! Praise God that your sister is a survivor 🙌🏾. How long has she been cancer free? Its not uncommon for her hair texture to change, actually its quite common as the medications has changed the shape of her hair follicle. Sometimes the follicle will return to normal, other times it won't. I have worked with a few cancer survivors and have witnessed first hand the texture changes, and the it reverting back o the normal texture...typically I've seen this after one to two years. Its also important to consider what type of medication she is on now. I would suggest you look up the type of meds she is on to determine what deficiencies they are creating within the body, and supplement them -- start there. You can email me to info@curlhosue.com as well to continue.

@@KarenofCurlHouse Thanks for getting back to me. She's been cancer free for 10 years now and we assumed her hair wouldn't revert back after all this time. We were just hoping for some advice that may help her hair to not be so thin. She's only comfortable wearing long twists (box braids style); which looks great on her, but I would love for her to have more options that she feels comfortable with. I've always been the one with thick wavy hair and I know she has always wanted the same type of versatility with styles that I have.

If I stop using minoxidil and start using rosemary will my new growth still fall out or will switching to rosemary allow me to maintain the new growth?

@KarenofCurlHouse 2 ай бұрын
Hey there! It all depends on how long you have been using it, and why are you are using it, particularly if you are using for the androgenetic hair loss, the site states that your hair will come back out. However, I know several women who used it rogaine for other types of hair loss issues, and were able to safely wean off of it, and use more natural alternatives. Furthermore, are you solely use a topical products to support growth, or are you allowing lifestyle to support growth as well? How long have you used it?

Yes minoxidil does work but they do not tell you the side effects. This is something you will have to use for the rest of your life. Once you stop the hair you did grow in. It will fall out and then some. I would never tell anyone to use this. I use it and I regret it. Years ago when it first came out. This is why you do not see any more commercials. If I had known what I know now. I want to use this. And they should tell people once you stop. Your hair will fall out. So please tell people the truth about this. 🤔😏😔🙆🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️😡

Hi Karen, I really appreciate this discussion and thought I’d chime in on the subject, and I’ll try to not make it too long. 😂 First my hair loss started right at the beginning of Covid just after receiving the 2nd vaccination. I lost an entire head of hair in under 3-1/2 weeks. By end of year 2 of the pandemic I had my first dermatology app’t and was told it could have been triggered by the vaccines! 3+ years in and 2 complete shaves (bald), I got conflicting info that it was frontal follicular alopecia by one doctor and that it definitely wasn’t by another (both working in the SAME clinic). I decided to go with doctor #2 and was put on a regimen of very low doses of minoxidil + bicalutide, an off-label med used for treating prostate cancer plus 2 micro needling sessions. I’ve never used topical minoxidil. Given the option of being bald or getting some hair back, I decided to give the treatment a chance. Five months later I’m seeing results, very slowly, but for the first time in the last four years I’m actually beginning to feel encouraged. 🙃😭🥲😍

Hey Ms Biggs! Thank you so much for sharing! That is really interesting -- did the second doctor diagnose as Frontal FIBROSING alopecia? You mentioned you shaved off your hair several times -- but was the hair loss concentrated at the front? I am so glad you finally found a regime that WORKS FOR YOU. I know that was tough. And glad you are seeing results! That warms my heart 💜
@missbiggs9437
@missbiggs9437 2 ай бұрын
@@KarenofCurlHouse The second doctor firmly disagreed with the FFA diagnosis and though I know absolutely nothing on the subject, that inner voice/instinct makes me want to believe it is closer to whatever is going on. At this stage it’s probably impossible to know the exact reason(s) for the extreme hair loss but the general thinking is the Covid vaccination(s) perhaps triggered an underlying weakness. The entire front with the temples being the most affected all the way back to the crown, only the back third of my hair remained but was visibly thinning. I opted to shave it all off because there wasn’t any way to cover or disguise the loss on the top and front and I decided to give the treatment at least a year’s try, thinking if it triggers growth - I’m not looking for length down my back just all round healthy growth - then perhaps in time I can ease off the treatment and switch to a more holistic approach similar to what you advocate and, hopefully, maintain a full head of hair from that point onwards … that’s the hope, at least!! 🤞🏾🙏🏽😻
