She was thin because she was a kid! She was a teenager! 15, 16, 17-early 20’s..that’s when most women are at their thinnest or smallest. So it’s weird and perverse when you think about the harsh criticism and obsessive scrutiny coming from adults

You gotta be kidding, most girlfriends I knew, including me, around the 17 year mark put on a good amount of their 'adult' weight. She was purposefully dieting to maintain her 12 year old frame. Stop making excuses for your favourite celebrities you bunch of submitted plebs. xD

That's definitely true before puberty, but also keep in mind she herself said to maintain her thinness she only consumed "coffee cigarettes and champagne". She said the quiet part out loud and got so much hate for it. Lying to people and telling them you can eat three meals a day and look like her would be the crueler option. I have respect for her honesty.

When I was 17 I signed on to Ford. I was 5' 7" and 103-109 lbs and they constantly told me to lose even more weight. One of tricks for fashion week was to soak cotton balls in fruit juice and eat them to feel full and has some quick sugar so you wouldn't pass out. I can only imagine how she pushed her way through the industry over the years. I lasted a year and couldn't handle it all. Way too toxic. This was back before tattoos were considered cool and I gave myself one after a few too many. It was a small star on my hip that was always hidden under underwear, but when the agency found out I got called into an office and was promptly slapped across the face

That slap was an assault. Did you report that to HR? Did you report that to the police? Did you call two female acquaintances to tell them what happened? You were under contract to an important modeling agency; probably that contract said things like.... Don't cut your hair. Don't dye your hair. Don't get fat. Don't get pregnant. Don't get a tattoo. That contract was a legal agreement between Ford and You. Perhaps you crossed the line. Perhaps you went against the terms of that contract. Maybe an agent should have said, "Why did you do that? Well don't do it again." But a slap? From a man? From a woman? From Naomi Campbell? Slapping a girl is not kosher. It's not a good business practice. I can remember from the old days the "jokes" about extreme measures the girls would have to live with to not gain weight. Lots of vomiting and yogurt "jokes" (my word). Most everyone knew that models had to be tall and skinny. And interesting looking. Eileen Ford was the first Agent to overlook those basics when she took on a shorter girl, with frousy hair, big feet, a bent nose, and a gap in the middle of her front teeth. Puleez. Sounds like a terrible decision, right? Eileen got that girl on the cover of Time Magazine, which was as awed as anyone, when that girl signed a modeling deal for One Million Dollars. That girl was like a product, a wealthy product, and she knew not to get fat. That's a tangent to your distress. I see Eileen Ford as a great Agent, maybe a genius Agent. A good business-woman. A smart cookie. Maybe I have a wrong impression of that woman. Maybe she got ahead slapping her girls around. I don't know. I worked in theatre. The talent was amazing. The successful ones on stage had to be pretty smart cookies themselves to get a new show, a new contract. It's a mean business. It's a tough business. It's a hard business. It can be a very rewarding business. A real rewarding business.
@jackmason4029
@jackmason4029 Жыл бұрын
You have to be capable of handling that requirement. It's an endurance test every day. No one forced the actors to go into show business. No one locked them in a dark room. There was a revolving door, that went both ways. It was a gender-fender door. Take it or leave it. One thing to ponder: in her first year of retirement, Gisele Bunchon earned thirty-eight million dollars. $38,000,000. Her husband, the GOAT quarterback, never earned as much as his wife. Yes, it's a toxic business. An awful business. But so is being a nanny.

My guess is you never saw her in real flesh and bones? I spent a week at a Spa in Thailand, same as she did. I saw her swim next to me, eat at the restaurant, take yoga classes.l, etc. Chiva Som was the name of the spa. And this was about 15 years ago, at the height of her popularity. She was the most average looking woman you can imagine. Small, not tall at all. Thin and not womanly. Not gorgeous or attractive or beautiful in any way that you can imagine. Her face without a trace of makeup was plain and average, her walk was average. I realized then that she is one of those beings that are transformed through the camera. Her exotic looks? Not in real flesh. So strange to see. It’s not her proportions, or anything. It’s the transformation of the camera and if you met her in real life and you didn’t know who she was, you wouldn’t ever guess that she could be attractive. A True changeling.

I'm 50yrs old 5'3 & weigh 111lbs after 2 kids & a nonexistent metabolism. Being ridiculed for being thin is very real & so are the challenges & bias that comes with it. I embrace my natural thinness as well, I eat well, I exercise well, I live my life to the fullest. I did get backhanded compliments when I had twins on how 'lucky' I am to be this thin, verbal mockery 'to eat a sandwich' or being compared to the holocaust victims and even physical assault on my 'thin bones'. But looking at the people who did this I just smiled inside knowing they are jealous of me. I have never had any doctor or nurse telling me I must gain weight, on the contrary, they all compliment my health status as optimal - an exact word they used, one doctor even asking me for dietary tips recently. So I know I am healthy just naturally thin.

I am speaking of Lauren Hutton, the first model to be signed to a million dollar contract. For that achievement, Time Magazine put her on it's cover. Lauren defied the definition of what makes a legendary model. This was in the 1960s. Lauren still works as a model in 2023 Lots of top tier girls worked the runways for years and years before anyone heard of Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell, who showed up in the 90s. With so many legendary girls before them, I hardly see a waif known for "Heroin Chic," and a haughty black girl sued for being so nasty, I hardly think of either of them as a pioneer. The model of that decade was the celebrated and adored Linda Evangelista, the queen of the runway, beloved by every major designer in the world. She didn't pioneer anything. But her station in that world surpassed Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell. To this day, one name reigns above the rest of the 90s SuperModels. La Linda.

I didn't realize how beautiful she was until this vid. Some of her photos with her hair and makeup in those particular shoots are spectacular! Physical appearance wise she and Johnny Depp looked good together, though it didn't work out. Sometimes it's better to be friends than lovers. It's sad that Kate Moss and other young models did not have a mother figure with them to keep an eye on them and look out for them. Someone patient and kind but with some street smarts to keep these girls safe from harm and being taken advantage of in such a fast pace lifestyle.

I've always said that it's a shame these models couldn't just do their jobs and pose (age-appropriately)... being passed around at 'model mansions/houses shouldn't ever be a part of the job!! „Kate has that child-woman thing that turns men on” - that’s so disgusting! As has been said already. That’s because she then WAS child! Still in her teen years. The look she has at 0:10 is the look of sheer fear and horror. It said afterwards she had to take Valium to being able to do that naked series. So if this fear in the eyes of a kid is what turns a man on, that is so shocking and actually tends towards crime. They introduced this kid to that unhealthy vicious lifestyle and then crucified her. So gross. Happy she made it all and surmounted everything and is a wealthy happy woman now!

So an opportunity came knocking twice and instead of exploring it in a prudent, educated and thoughtful your relative reactively shut down any prospect of something positive happening for individuals who weren’t her and didn’t own her preconceived notions of their own power to deal with the negative aspects of the industry. Great choice. I’m retired now but I know for me, I worked nonstop for over a decade and both my folks and bookers were all on my page when it came to my desire to stay away from the extremely unsavory aspects of the industry. My career allowed me to pay for my own education and purchase my first house at 25, as well as have experiences and meet individuals I May not have otherwise. Trusting yourself and your support system to navigate what you set your mind to is definitely worth an attempt. It’s only modeling for Christ’s sake, not a trip to mars or an irreversible commitment to a cult. End it if it doesn’t go your way or it’s not for you.

Kate is uniquely beautiful that was androgynous and different from classically beautiful models of the 80s and early 90s. Fashion industry was invaded by psychos who pushed for that unhealthy look as if you overdosed and forgot to eat for a year. She does not look good in swim suit, she looks too thin, her collar bones and rib cage look as if they are about to break. What saved her was her distinguished high cheekbones that made her face appear fuller.

@@siennaioana6763 I agree that Kate is beautiful model however, there is a study done of what makes a face attractive and why obese models have unusually thin faces. I’m gonna tell you straight into the point I love her I think she is a beautiful woman who was in the process of discovering herself, and no one can speak because no one is perfect. She was thrown into a world win situation at a very young age and she wasn’t even developed yet she was pressured into doing things and feeling things. She probably wouldn’t have been exposed to at least not to that degree if she was having a normal life, however she still would’ve had heartbreak she still would’ve had Controversy. I don’t know why people are so judgmental of other people for experimenting and exploring life and all it has because you learn what you really want from experimenting with things that you find you don’t really want so you have to know what you don’t want in order to find what you do. She is a beautiful woman naturally she really doesn’t need much in the way of make up. She’s just beautiful and that will last for so long and then eventually the beauty will come from within. I am proud of her. I think she’s done amazing job and if someone falls off because they want to put you down or they want to demonize you were they’re using you as a scapegoat let them go they’re not for you And I can see that that’s pretty much what she did. She just continue to go forward. She didn’t spend much time looking behind her or what could’ve been because she excepted reality for what it was. as far as her physique is concerned, whether she intentionally did substances to maintain her weight, which I don’t believe because I think it’s her natural constitution is her business the pressures on, and if you get a custom to living a certain lifestyle, making a certain amount of money you’re going to do what you can to keep that because you know It’s on a timeline you’re not gonna be doing it forever and yet she’s had such a wonderful career. She makes everything look better And most people are probably envious wishing they could be her. The truth of the matter is is people have under healthy ideas of beauty Whether they’re overweight whether they’re in between or whether they’re naturally skinny And there’s so many women hating on other women, and that’s part of the problem. Once upon a time I was a beautiful woman, and I didn’t even know it. I was too insecure and self-conscious Now I’m 55 years old and I see most of my beauty comes from within. It comes from my heart. It’s who I am to a show up as every single day, even when no one‘s watching, particularly when no one is watching. That is my legacy, and though I may not have had a career in the public guy which, of course is going to be scrutinized in my later years, I became quite a public singer in my communities, and I say that because I travel in certain places and people do know me, some people hate me, and some people love me. It just depends on what they reject about themselves and what they adore but they don’t realize they already possess Kate Moss is an icon and she worked her ass off to get there and people chattering and trying to do bad things to her. Didn’t stop her from achieving things that she wanted to. It didn’t stop her from succeeding. It didn’t stop her from having relationships or having a child and it didn’t stop her from saying you know what this industry screwed up and I want to open up an agency that takes good care of models so that The abuse stops How would she have known if she had not lived it now she knows what to look for now. She knows what to stop now she’s an advocate and I think that’s amazing so kudos to her. I think there’s nothing more to say I’m a huge fan and I don’t idolize anybody so I’m not saying that I’m simply saying I would support her and defend her if need be but I don’t think it’s necessary because I think that her energy speaks volumes and I definitely could see that she is capable of speaking on her own behalf, and I am really admire that She’s an independent woman who cannot respect that is someone who feels trapped in there on lives, and refuses to make the appropriate choices that were released them Oh, none of us came here especially not her to be a people pleaser and if you’re pleasing everyone else, the one person you’ve left out as yourself

I've researched the industry too and it is extremely predatory, for someone so young to be around men without a chaperone who would protect her is akin to leaving the hen house door open while a pack of wolves are walking by. Human trafficking is a big issue in this industry rom the runway to the manufacturing rooms where the garment is created by young cheap labor. I'm pretty sure Moss is NOT 5'7", but is in fact, shorter. Models and their agencies will often fudge the numbers a little - add a few inches for height, subtract an inch or 2 for waist, subtract some kilos for weight. Think of it like you would think of how people pad their resumes or actresses will claim to be younger (or occasionally, older, such as Mila Kunis when she auditioned for "That 70s Show" as a young teenager).

Also, Johnny Depp may have been very taken with Moss for the first year or whatever, but they often fought in public and in private. And I read that Depp, who eventually broke up with Moss, told her that she wasn't intellectual or something along those lines (Moss only had an education up to the age of 16, and was not much of a reader or knowledgeable about literature etc.). Moss was deeply affected by the breakup, and said it took a long time to recover.
