One of my all time favourite tracks, "The story" from 2007 by the then 25-year-old Brandi Carlisle. If you know this track, I'm sure you will agree with my emotion! And if you have not heard it before, or even know this artist, then I hope that I have the privilege to introduce you to her today!
I mention an exciting young singer who I'm working with in this vid, inviting you to check out her music video. This "Dark side of the moon" is definitely not the Pink Floyd one, of course, but actually Jeanique's own, original song. The video was produced by Studio Chapters and is really something very special and beautiful! Please check it out by clicking here:

She was once interviewed in a mexican cable music channel, just after the release of The Story, and she was talking about the recording process, her voice, and what she wanted to express. When she talked about this song and the part her voice breaks, I remember it clearly, she said "It is technically wrong but emotionally right". I love her and her music since 2006. She's about my age too, I was born in September 1980, and feel related to her in a personal level...

The first time I heard this song, I felt like I’d flown to heaven and back. She is so emotive and so not like anyone else. I don’t have your skills but there is nothing wrong with my ears or my feelings. I still can’t believe how phenomenal this recording is. She even went way beyond this when she sang at the Grammys. That performance was unreal. 👍☮️🌞🎸🎵🩷⭐️

As a long-time fan of Brandi, it feels so redemptive to see her get some more widespread attention these past few years. I feel like I just watched someone fall in love with her right before my eyes, and I *love* that. Team Brandi! Cheers! ❤️

Brilliant analysis. The power of the human voice without processing is so emotional and Brandi's command of her distinctive voice is mesmerizing. This song is so incredible because you know "the part" is coming but you may not be ready for it...but you know you need it.

You conveyed that beautiful thought, so perfectly. Very well said. That was truly a lovely description of this particular song and Brandi’s astounding and vulnerable voice. It’s as if she tells her life story in every song that she sings. She is perfection with an acoustic guitar. So simple yet incredibly complex.

I loved it when I first heard it years ago, and it brings me to tears more now! Life can do that to you! Man, there’s something so darn powerful about her voice, the words, and how simple yet stunning all at once this is!

Just saw her and "The Twins" perform at Red Rocks in Colorado this past weekend and I can honestly say it was the best concert I've ever been to. She had that crowd hanging on every word of every song and eating out of the palm of her hand. I have watched plenty of her shows online to know how amazing she is live but I was still blown away by the emotion she is able to portray in her voice. Pure beauty.

Agree with you completely. She Is the voice, but she (and the Twins) are such gifted songwriters, the proof is in the performance. The emotion comes through in every line, and your'e spot on with mentioning the instinctive creativity. Straight from the heart. There are very few performers who can do this consistently like she does.

I came across Brandi Carlile through the Avett Brothers. Both are so grounded and sing with so much feeling. They are two of the best, especially when it comes to telling a story. They are both family first, which really helped them develop a style and delivery that are top notch.

One of my all time favorite songs. You are right, so powerful and unique. I absolutely loved your reaction and review. Very, VERY interesting. You remind me of……..someone…..(thinking). A mix of my high school choral/show choir teacher and Hannibal Lecter. And that’s a big compliment. I loved Mr Moore (Omaha Westside). And The character of Hannibal is full of wisdom in his “craft” and incredibly interesting. I’m glued to my screen. Best wishes from Omaha, NE US.

Thanks for your analysis of this fantastic song and singer. Well worth checking out her live performance of it recorded in 2008 on the Later with Jools Holland show (recently re-showed at the behest of Elton John and posted on YT by BBC Music). For me, her best performance of it. Every so often, a song just blows you away - such a privilege. LeAnn Rimes also did a (more conventional) cover.
