Yeah, the only won 2 fewer games the season MJ left. They were a contender even without him. Adding MJ just made it almost a guarantee. They may have won another one the season MJ returned if they didn't also lose Horace Grant. That is 2 of their premier starters. They made up for it by grabbing Rodman the following season.

@Milosenpotion
@Milosenpotion 2 жыл бұрын
@@mckinneyanthony250 What did he say right before he 'made it about himself'? He addressed Jordan as an individual, so he talked about himself as an individual. He took responsibility for not winning. Karl is always genuine, he doesn't give a damn about hurting feelings. He says what he thinks and stands behind his words which is what makes him such a great interview. Very similar to Chuck. Both Malone and Stockton are very old school guys in the mold of Jerry Sloan and that era (Jordan is actually kinda like this himself too, but he gets so much attention he kinda has to put a PC spin on things business-wise): they always talk about the team when giving credit and rarely give themselves much credit for success. When it comes to taking responsibility though, they'll put it on themselves just as Karl did here.

So cool to see & hear The Mailman after retirement. I approached him once in summer of 1989 at Market Street Broiler where he was having lunch with Mike Brown & their dates in the front outdoor patio area. I asked him to autograph my below knee prosthesis (my peg leg) to which he eagerly agreed. While signing he was also singing "my fans my fans I love my fans" in a quiet voice of course lol. It was then I realized I parked next to his AMG scissor winged door black Benz ($260k back then lol) & commented. He then asked me how I like my new car as he was looking at getting one (a new then jeep wrangler laredo) & grabbed me a chair & had me join them to which I did but only for about 5 minutes as Brown & their dates faded into the background as Karl & I excitedly engaged in our conversation about cars & Shriners Hospital for Children I strongly encouraged him to look into helping & visiting (& oh he definitely did lol). I thanked him & Bear, shook both their hands as he gave me a bro hug... Made my entire year lol. I'd bump into him 3 more times over the next 4 years & each time it would be Karl who would approach me- once when I was on a date at C&R Chicken where he stopped by my booth & said, "Hey Jeff, so how you been doin my man? Been awhile since I've seen you?" Like we were old friends (my date was blown away, couldn't stop talking about it lol- we didn't date very long but it was so cool Karl was so friendly, engaging & humble to us regular locals treating us as the friends we were to him & he to all of us. Malone deserves all he's earned & worked so hard for. God, I'd love to bump into him again lol. But neither of us live anywhere near Utah any longer & in totally different states even but I will always fondly remember, admire & have great respect for the Mailman Karl Malone.

Closing minute, Game 5. 1997 Finals. Utah needed to foul. As the closing seconds ticked of Karl Malone refused to foul. Cost the Jazz any chance they had of winning that game. The "Flu game." Jerry Sloan was flipping out on the sideline. In the post game interviews Malone said he had a brain freeze. Bill Walton was on that NBC commentating team. Throughout the entire 97 Finals, On commentary Walton kept imploring Malone to take it to the rack and stop settling for long range fadeaways. All throughout the 98 Finals Rodman was in Malone's head with the WCW stuff. No doubt the Bulls were going to win those two Finals anyway, but Malone's poor choices were on display throughout both Finals.

A lot of people don’t know this, but being a professional basketball player was really just a hobby for Karl. He had a real job working for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, and he kept that job throughout his entire basketball career. He took his work at the post office very seriously, only playing basketball after he had finished his daily mail route. Delivering the mail was what Karl considered to be his true passion, and, according to the people who knew him best, he was an even better mailman than he was a power forward in the NBA. No one ever had to worry about their mail failing to arrive on time, because, come rain or shine, the residents of Salt Lake City could always count on Karl to deliver. Utah Jazz fans were well aware of what he did for a living, because most of them had already gotten to know him as their mailman before they had even found out he was on the team, and that’s how he got his famous nickname as “the postmaster.” It was actually very common for NBA players to have real jobs back in those days, as they didn’t make very much money, and none of that is true because I made it all up. It was a much different time, to say the least.

U was playing Michael Jordan in the last 41 secs tho lol. Jordan was a badman. He still seems bitter and rightfully so. Jordan ruined his dreams TWICE in a row

He just doesnt lick his boots like everyone loves to. As far as giving credit goes, this is the most he has ever given anyone. Malone isnt exactly a likeable guy to most people

Stephen Johnson Hakeem was a more skilled player than Jordan imo. If you give hakeem a solid team as good as Chicago, Hakeem winning for sure. He won 2 rings with no superstar, Jordan couldn’t do that when he got swept by the pistons.

The reason why Jordan’s the goat is because he has the best story. There is no story for a superstar as good as Jordan’s. But skill wise, I do choose a few over Jordan

That's the best way of putting it. Jordan's career plays out almost like a Disney movie and people relate to it. But there's other guys I'd pick ahead of him.

These guys were just athletes, but they seem to have a more profound understanding of manhood than anyone in our generation.

What are you talking about mate? Manhood. What?…… is rapeing a 12yo child and impregnating her then refusing to pay $125 per week in child support when you are earning $14,000,000 the definition of “manhood” is it? Give me a break.

I remember watching this series and I felt like jazz was better as a team…but Jordan was the X factor. He pulled of a great play at the right time.

How? They lost, he respects Mike's game, he's real. We bow down to worship Jordan like he a God LOL. Pathetic 😅 Dummies don't understand how GREAT Malone was, i agree Mike wasn't alone. Better coach, best foreign player, best 2way player, best rebounder, most dependable 3 pointers. But Karl did his Job very well. Utah wasn't as good as their recorded showed, Karl offensively carried that team, NOBODY was worried about Stockton and Horneck lol, thats why he snatched them 2 MVPs from Mike.

Every time people say Jordan won 6 championships I remind them, it was the Bulls, a team that made it to the playoffs without MJ. Plus, the Bulls KM played against was an upgraded “super team.”
