My former comment went wonky so I'm trying again. Thank you Karlee for your wonderful presentation on couching. It's so great that you take the time to share with your public. Now about the music: everyone has different tastes in music and if it doesn't suit it stresses. Music should be in the background if at all, and in teaching videos it shouldn't be used at all. We want to learn from you, not be entertained. You are so good at teaching and though I don't usually give advice I thought you deserved to be informed. Bless you and keep up the good work.

Hi Karlee, Haven't come close to mastering quilting but I like the idea of the plain fabric and making the quilting the entire focus. Love the variegated yarn, so much color, and the addition of the gold on the white quilt. Great technique. Thanks

Hi Karlee, great delivery on a subject matter that I have not seen before. Just a suggestion, would it be possible to turn the music down or even off whilst you are talking? I found it very hard to concentrate with the information you were delivering as the music seemed to be competing for attention. In that way it is easier to pay full attention to you, the person delivering the lesson, rather than all the frills. However, despite this, your tutorial has made me want to research more into this sewing method.. Well Done!!

I think you are probably an artist in any media but this one is spectacular! Isn't there a thingamajig that would attach to your machine and hold the yarn out of your way ; you would not have to stop so often?

@karleeporter5085 10 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for watching! One a regular machine, I think you would need a special foot. You can just use the same needle though. Or you can also do the couching style where you lay the yarn down and then do a zig zag stitch over the top of it.

Wonderful demonstration. Thank you for taking the time to teach couching, it is a blessing. but about the music: I'm afraid I couldn't listen to the whole teaching because of the Everyone has different taste in music and if it doesn't suit it stresses. Also one cannot separate the music from your voice

This couching looks like fun to do. The black fabric your sewing on is it a finished quilt that hasn't been quilted yet with a pattern? Very well explained too. I also agree with your comment about your nails. Just be yourself. :)

@karleeporter5085 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I just saw this comment. Yep! I am just quilting on regular black fabric (made into a quilt sandwich) and all the quilting comes from the couching as well. :)

Great video, Karlee, except for the loud music that is very distracting. So, I bought a Tiara II Babylock last week and the dealer said it is the exact same machine as the Sweet 16 and made by the same company. It looks exactly like the Sweet 16, but was quite a bit less in price. The couching foot set is also the same. I've been playing and cannot for the life of me get the yard to stay down in most places. The needle just seems to bypass it, and have switched to the other feet with multiple size yarns and still have the same problem, as well as sped up the stitches, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hate to return the foot set, but if they don't work, no sense in having spent that $99 for nothing. Thanks!

Just had to let you know I've finally been able to do some awesome couching, although not as spectacular as yours! Turns out my machine had issues that have now been fixed with a new replacement machine! Oh, happy day! The couching feet were definitely worth the price...you can now find me in the yarn department. ;)

On a regular sewing machine with a couching foot, is the presser foot up or down. Yours is moving so easily it's hard to imagine that the foot is down but then the pressure of the down foot on the fabric wouldn't allow it to move so easily, would it?
@karleeporter5085
@karleeporter5085 5 жыл бұрын
Sue holland when using a domestic machine, it’s not that the hopping foot stays down, it’s that you lower the feed dogs, so that as the hopping foot bounces up and down, there is no pull in between bounces, just like on a longarm.

Great tutorial Karlee, I'm definitely going to be getting a couching foot for my Sweet 16. One question - your Sweet 16 sounds really quiet when it is working, in fact it sounds like it is purring. Mine sounds really noisy, so I was wondering if the noise from your machine has been muted for the video.
@karleeporter5085
@karleeporter5085 9 жыл бұрын
I actually sped the video up during the quilting, so that would explain the purr. :) But overall my machine isn't super crazy loud. It could be something to get used to, or possibly have your local rep give you a second opinion :)
