Enhanced Surveillance ruling is that it adds 2 to the Surveil number. So like Surveil 2 would really be Surveil 4. You're not just looking at 4 cards when Surveilling 2. 😋

39:37 Not that it made any difference, but Kaust only works on flipping the owner's *attacking* creatures. Sadly, he's no good for blocking shenanigans.

I love the idea of goad, but this episode confirms my experiences and fears with them: That once you get down to 1:1, there's a chance of it falling apart. I have the Firkraag precon and I love it in theory, but have yet to win a match with it.

From my experience playing against goad, you really want to make the threat swing out at other people so you can get in while their pants are down

There is a card in the goad deck that more or less turns this downside off but you have to draw it for it to be useful!!

31:27 Sorry Tom, but you wouldn't have drawn 4. Nelly reads "Whenever one or MORE creatures an opponent controls deal combat damage to one or MORE of your opponents," So you'd effectively get one card per combat, two if one+ creature has double strike

Nelly is not draw once per creature. The double strike interaction works like that but when multiple creatures did damage it does not work like that

Tom could've lasted another turn though... Gideon's Sacrifice, the 1 white mana instant he had in his hand with 1 white mana free, would have diverted _all_ damage he took that turn onto another creature, which could have been the solemn simulacrum (drawing Tom a card), leaving all the attacking creatures tapped and the Fiendish Duo able to swing back the following turn with double strike. It wouldn't have won him the game, but a lot can happen in another turn, especially with 2 extra cards...

50:00 why didn't tom play Gideon's Sacrifice. Yeah, he'd lose a creature, I'd target the card that lets him draw when it dies, but he would have survived. Which actually, if he targeted the simulacrum, Fiendish duo would still be alive, reading if a source would deal damage to an opponent, it would deal double instead. Therefore, if Tom hand any removal to remove his 3/3 that the other guy would create on Tom's upkeep, Tom could have swung in with a 5/5 double strike, 2x damage, dealing 10 in first combat, and 10 in second which would have been lethal.

I've been binging this channel last few days and want to start buying/playing Magic, Ive been interested for years, although I have no idea what to buy first. Should I just drop into a game store and see what they are doing or ask for advice.

Head down to an LGS (local game store) Ask to borrow a deck from a player or staff member, then look at their selections of precons and go from there

Hi Aaron, thank you for watching! There are a couple of ways to start and heading down to your LGS on a commander night is a great way to do that - I would recommend looking for the night at your LGS they play casual commander and maybe dropping a post on their social media about coming down. A more experienced player or the store should be able to lend you a deck as new players are always welcome! I also recommend, if you are brand new to magic, downloading MTG Arena so you can get some of the basics down before you go. The app is free to play (although you can sink cash into it) and will teach you what you need to know to get started. I see you also joined the Patreon so feel free to ask us and other patreons for advice on deckbuilding, strategies or even to get a spelltable game! (spelltable is a free internet software that allows you to play via webcam). Good luck on your journey with the greatest game ever! Christian

Just point out, that the "last" reanimate shoud be not Kazul, but Gisela (she was in grave too) - that would reduce dmg. by half ;) Other funny interaction could be to copy Nelly, and when she attack you would goad all the Suspected creautres - no just supspeced by You, all of them :D
