I think anyone cutting back on the oversized bikes and getting back to basics on a lighter machine that can go anywhere... has their head on straight. And at 64 you have plenty of years to pack in more adventures. Glad to see you're considering staying on two wheel, although by the looks of your channel you've had that covered with mountain-biking. Himalayan all the previous model of Royal Enfield, are crap as there is too much vibration. But if you try out the new Royal Enfield interceptor 650 cc, you will not be disappointed. There is no vibration and if you ride for 3 hours continuously you will not feel any back pain or stiffness, but with Himalayan and all models of Royal Enfield that were launched before 2018 , I am sorry to say they are not worth the money.

KARMAkaze Moto Indeed! I come from a road racing background, which being smaller seems to be a positive. Slowly getting into more off-road riding, and cannot say the same thing! Everything so so darn tall!

@@sarahdell4042 tell me about it! Even the Himalayan is a bit taller than I thought. With my touring boots I'm basically touching with toes, but that works fine because the bike feels light to me. A slight shift on the seat and I've got one foot flat. I'll be investing in more rugged, off-road boots with thicker soles and that should help. Being an off-road bike and needing more clearance, I have not plans for lowering. Now road racing, that must be a thrill. I don't think I'll ever have the experience of doing that. At best I may do a track day... someday. So hats off to you for road racing! 🏍

KARMAkaze Moto I usually find myself riding solo, so my fear is always not being able to pick a street based bike up. Recently acquired a 250L, and it’s light enough that I can pick it up once or twice by myself. In my very early 30s, but dialing things back. New bikes are way too fast, and recovering takes longer! :( If you ever get the opportunity, do a track day. You’ll be glad you did!

@@sarahdell4042 smart thinking. Not much is accomplished with a big bike when it comes to off road. I bet your 250L is a blast no matter where you go with it, partly because it's that much easier to handle. I'm not even sure we have track days up here. I'll have to look into it. My Suzuki Bandit would do the trick pretty well. I'll should add this to my bucket list. 🙂

Todays REs don't have that...I got classic 350 new model..But old bikes build in the 90s ...Heartbeat man heartbeat.

@@BharathKumar-ox4fx I was talking with another guy on here with a '90s RE. He has a similar sentiment. I have similar feelings too. I like my older Suzuki Bandit with the carburetor. And if that thing is running good, it is because of me. So we are a team. If it runs with more power than when it was new off the line, that is me too, putting in the effort to adjust, test, then adjust again... until it is just perfect. And I love those old Bullets. They have a good sound and a good feel.

@@RedLoveShow Now that you mention it I did have one small glitch. The gear indicator was showing a 0 instead of the number gear I was in. However, once I returned home I accidentally wore the battery down and after charging and starting the bike the gear indicator was working perfect. Just needed a reset I guess. That is the only thing.

Totally dependent on location of ones trip and wants, I have a older GS 1100 that is well sorted and I take absolute liberties with it off road, if you are single tracking trough a mountain range then certainly smaller is better, If you are riding London to Bangkok I want the extra horse power and size for the longer sections and even on Fire roads a larger bike is absolutely fine, the thing that buggered current ADV bikes is the amount of crap they now have installed that can go wrong and the build quality of some crash prone parts, I would not be to expectant of picking up a dropped current gen Honda AT and jumping straight on and going like I have many times with my old Bimmer, in fact there is a guy on YT that crashed one on a test ride and absolutely buggered the thing with a minor off road drop. I have owned DRZs XR you name it and I certainly would not want to tour at highway speeds for any length of time with one of them. For me an adventure bike must be ok off road whilst still being compliant doing 500miles on road. If someone like URAL could reproduce a R100GS type bike with a basic setup without ABS and all the other shite that would be perfect, something easy to work on, reliable Boxer engine and good both on and off road...

All good points. Everyone has different capabilities, different priorities, different tastes and incomes... There's no diffinitive bike that is best for everyone.

Same goes with nakeds, why do I need 150 Hp, when the head wind starts to annoy you above 130 Kph?

I have a mid 90's Aprilia Pegaso (and have previously owned the Suzuki XF650), it's an amazing bike, but big singles over long distances can tire you out.. My mate has a Transalp, and the difference when covering even 50 miles of high-ish speed boring tarmac. For most dirt stuff, I use an old DR350, but the Pegaso has done a good amount of trails - been getting more and more difficult as I am less worried about killing the bike - and it's been surprisingly good at them. I still think the Suzuki did it better though.

@KARMAkaze Moto N2 is more useful in hot and humid countries like India where oxygen in plain air expands like crazy and also the humid climate makes the Oxygen corrode the wheels.Not so useful in a temperate climate like North America

My trip was a little different than that. I did not go on a tour to get it customized. I was on tour to take the bike from the dealership to my home in Alaska. I only stopped along the way to have the work done. But I did not have to do that, so you are a little bit correct. :) Actually the place where I stopped for the custom work was exactly 300 miles. I had to do the first engine service, so it worked out perfect!

I bought one, and he bagged out less than a week before. I made it myself with no riding real experience to speak of. Sometimes riding by yourself can be rewarding.

It never even occurred to me to buy in Boise and then have a shorter trip to Spokane. I guess when I first started talking to the Seattle guys I wasn't really thinking about doing the ceramic on the exhaust yet. Glad my video helped! You'll probably get even more out of Part 3 with regard to highway capability. That said, in Part 2 you'll see all the ceramic work and that guy in Greenacres, WA is not too far from you. Worth the trip I think.

Not a huge difference but for a poor man like me, the himilayan has alot to offer. I like the interceptor but my area has alot of offroad to explore, probably a bit more than the interceptor could handle. Needs to be more of a 50/50 bike to get me where i need to go. The interceptor seems more like a 70/30 road bike. It is really good looking though...

You are very brave! I live in India where the RE Himalayan is made ... so many issues with these bikes. I am going to watch the vid and see how many hrs you spent at the side of the road. Plus under 30bhp for a bike that size ... can we spell under powered!?

I watched the vid. The salesman made me laugh doing his schtick considering what I know about this bike and it's inherent flaws. He would not make a good poker player! His tells are like headlines on a news article. When he started the bike I cringed ... there is that RE clumping sound that is what you get on tick-over. It's for sure a Royal Enfield! Torque 32 NM @ 4250 rpm ... good luck on inclines with all that weight! Getting parts for that bike where you are? Hmmm! Typical rookie 1st long ride ... too much weight! 2x wheels / physics. The traction patch on the rear tire ... hmmm!? Highway riding is going to be noisy! And off road is going to be dicey. So this bike does neither very well. I see you have the now essential *DRONE* for that fly by footage that every self respecting YouTub'er has to have in their vids if they want the content to be all *NOW* looking. I am not trying to be *negative here* ... I am always just trying to be realistic. So please do not take me as seriously as you may if you are easily butt-hurt. I do feel that the novelty of this bike will wear off *REAL* quick considering where it has been pitched in the market and combined with the fact that a Vesap vxl 150 has more power ... I know because my wife has a vxl 150. I would like to see how many mechanical issues you have that would have not been expected with a new bike. Say, by the time you get to 10k km / 6k miles! I have watched the Indian guys who own one of these take them to the 20k km mark ... and then looked at the amount of time spent waiting for parts / getting the wrong parts sent ... and then mix in the hrs of frustration. I think you are going to find it disappointing. I would have ungraded the suspension before ceramic coating. That would have been money better spent ... the stock suspension if *VERY* low-end on the cost that RE put on the bike. *Royal Enfield Himalayan is going through a bad phase as recent automotive reports claim its temporary suspension for the Indian market.* The official reason for the down-turn is the present owners are facing a lot reliability and quality issues with their Himalayan. Royal Enfield has not issued a recall and are serving only those customers that came in for service or complaint. Royal Enfield needs to reconsider its strategy on selling the Himalayan in India in the second phase!

@@KARMAkazeMoto Did you keep the drone or ship it home!? That is a lot of weight which I would not have taken. The go-pro style cam will do a better rider POV anyway. I take half the weight I did on my first long haul. I have to go and pick up my KTM from another part of India and ride it back in a couple of weeks ... so that will be interesting as I have not ridden that before either as it is new. I had it stripped and rebuilt with a bunch of upgrades ... then retuned the engine for a through track pipe. And now have to ride it back from my Tech's place in the South of Pune ...

Thanks Nino! I'll be interested to hear later if you do buy a Himalayan. 😀 They are Roland Sands Ronin gloves. They have a vintage look and I usually use them for my daily riding on a '97 Suzuki Bandit. But they fit so well and comfortable that I used them often during this trip. I had waterproof adventure gloves with me, but did not need them often.
