An unboxing of my Karrimor SF Sabre 75 and some backpack buying advice. Featuring my 5.11 Rush 72, demonstrating why it's not ideal as a backpack to go camping with.
Note: I don't dislike the Rush 72! It's great for what it is, but not to use as a camping backpack IMO.

Thanks! I really wished I'd thought about the benefits of 'top loaders' before buying a clam-shell opener (the Rush 72). The Rush 72 will make a great BOB or GHB though so that'll be my excuse for my next project. Thanks so much for watching! Really appreciate your time. Andy

A winner by knockout...you sure won that fight. The Karrimor 75 looks like a great system a good choice between the 60-100L and the 45L's . it is a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Good review. Atb Opal

I feel your pain with the rush 72. Loved it to death when I got it, but then used it and realized how impractical it was for actual camping. Just ordered the Karrimor 75. Thanks for the advice mate!

I've kept mine as I think it'd be great for a bug out bag project. I do love it though but it's definitely one of these things that's far better in theory than practice. My only criticism with the Sabre 75 is that the compression straps go round the optional side pouches. I'd love for them to go under them so that they compress the bulky stuff inside the main bag without damaging the trinkets in the pockets. Thanks for watching! Really appreciate your comment. All the best. Andy

Thanks mate! Appreciate it. I feel a bit like I'm 'dissing' the 5.11 but it's not that, I just wanted to point out it's limitations re the compressing/stuffing as I had a few regrets after making the purchase. Thanks for watching mate! Really appreciate you watching. All the best mate. Andy

Just getting into the survival/wild camping thing myself and have enjoyed your videos. I made a similar mistake myself; I initially bought a Hazard 4 Patrol Pack (determined not to go 'overboard' with kit) and eventually came to the conclusion that, even with all the PALS webbing, it's just too small - good quality, just too small to carry sleeping gear in an evenly-balanced way. I bought a Sabre 75 too and it's far more suitable, though need to resist the temptation to fill it just because I have the space!

I have a Sabre 75 with side pouchers, the best thing about them is you can dump your tent and just camp in the back(",)

I've been using a rush 72 to wild camp for close to 5 years now, it's a all down to how you pack it- it's not designed for all the stuff on the outside like that. I'd really review what you take, and how you pack it, you can really get a lot squared away using the internal mesh pockets and outer organization pocket in mine I can comfortably get Cooking stuff: Mini all metal frying pan Alpkit MyTi Mug 650 1 litre Naglene bottle Jetboil Spatula Jetboil Flash LMF Ti Spork Ti flatpacking stove + fuel Tools: ESEE 3 Fallkniven TK4 Slingshot + ammo Docter 8x21 Monocular Possibles kit ( fire lighting stuff ect) 2x 35m OD green paracord 1x 20m CT Firecord Sawyer Mini Filter kit Source universal hydration kit AMK Ultralight/Watertight 0.7 1st Aid kit Silva Otus headtorch Shelter: Helikon-Tek Poncho +liner Hennessey Hammock A-Sym Explorer 3 season Sleeping bag 4x Bungees and random lengths of paracord AMK Emergency Bivi Folding sitmat Large Bandanna Buff 6x Tent pegs Misc: food for a couple of days Tissues Wetwipes I do understand the clamshell issue you describe though, it's why I upped from a RUSH 24 to 72

I bought the Karrimor Sabre 75 and the Karrimor Sabre 60-100 bag. I purchased both to see which one I would like best for an extended bug out bag. I opted for the 60-100. Even though that bag was heavier, I really loved the adjust back system. The 60-100 was just super comfortable and transfer the weight better to my hips. Yes, I also owned a Rush 72 as a bug out bag. I would not want to use a bag with a zippered main compartment when my entire life is dependent upon my back pack. Just my two cents.

Hi, is the 60-100 still good? Hesitating between the Sabre 45 and the 60-100. Just because the adjusting backsystem.

@@adamhideghety5612 Yes, the 60-100 is still good. I highly recommend both packs you mentioned! If you are debating between the two bags you mentioned, I also have the 45 liter bag. It is high quality. However, I like the 75 liter bag more than the 45. They both use the same foam frame. The shoulder and straps on the 75 have a lot more padding and are more comfortable with a load. The 75 also has a few exterior pockets while there are none aside from the top lid pocket on the 45. The 75 liter model has a map pocket in back, water bottle pockets on each side, and also sleeves that can carry trekking poles or skis. I know those items can be strapped to the 45, but I really like some of those features.
@adamhideghety5612
@adamhideghety5612 2 жыл бұрын
@@keithfillinger3182Yeah, this is my concern. Maybe the 60-100 is more versatile. If I pack 10 kg ín the Bag, maybe the 45 is better because the Bag is also lighter. But if 18 kg, or more, the adjustable backsystem and more padded components Will be Way more comfortable. Maybe I am wrong, maybe only my eyes want the bag with more capacity and me actually never needed so big Bag. And with 15-20 kg the difference may not noticable, and the 60-100 is better only up to 25-30 kilo. Under 20 the 45 or the 60-100 is the same.
@keithfillinger3182
@keithfillinger3182 2 жыл бұрын
@@adamhideghety5612 I carried about 25 kg in both my 75 and 60-100 bag. It was comfortable with both bags. That amount of weight would probably be too much for the 45 model.

This video really helped mate. I own a Rush 24 and was considering a 72 as need more space for wild camping. Then I stumbled on the Karrimor so was trying to decide between the 2. Im a bit ocd and love the organisation of the Rush bags, perfect for bug out bags. However I see how they are probably not best suited for a dedicated camping pack. I'm thinking of getting the 45L with side pouches for some organisation.
@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 7 жыл бұрын
+Steven Novak Thanks for your comment! Appreciate you watching. All I'd say is that the Sabre 75 can compress down to being similar in size to a 45 with three extra space as an option. The side pouches are OK but a bit of a pain when you're compressing things as the straps then go round the outside pouches which tend to hold items you'd possibly want loose. I felt exactly the same originally but you'd be amazed about how practical it can be to organise things in a big space with bags and stuff. I'm sure you'll get what's right though. Just measure up so you can see what looks right for you as it's hard to gauge on screen. All the best mate!

Nice review mate, I've just took delivery of 1, same as yours picked a new one up on ebay uk including side pouches for £125.00. They look bomb proof, can't wait to get out with it. A.t.b.........Gary.
@sawdustandsurvival
@sawdustandsurvival 8 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate! When you say bomb proof, it is but it's not unnecessarily tough and bulky like, say Maxped gear can be. Zips aren't oversized and the fabric is tough but thin enough to be flexible. It's great for my needs. If your new bag doesn't come with instructions on fitting, get in touch and I'll relay mine to you as it seems quite complex to initially tailor it to your back. averagejoesurvival@hotmail.com All the best mate! Iv'e just loaded some gear in it and tried it on had a walk around the house, seems comfy, much better than my 120l army bergen. If i have any probs mate i'll be in touch. A.t.b...........Gary.

I'm no expert on it but the card attached is quite long winded but it seems like once you're set there are only a few minor adjustments to be made in future based on weight distribution preferences and the load you're carrying. It's a great bag and I love the simplicity of one big space. Good move for £125! I paid more than that for the bag alone before the rocket pouches.

It's been fine really! To be fair it's not had heavy use. I use it to go wild camping so it's only a couple of miles from the car to the spot I tend to use. In reality it's probably only been out around 20 times since the video was made, so it's done way less than 100 miles on my back in total. No signs of wear though.
