learning and singing pinegrove songs alone to myself is probably the only reason i’m alive today. the sheer whimsy and emotion in every single one of their albums still makes me cry from joy even all these years later. i’m loving that with this new public resurgence of the band that people who have been listening to them for years are starting to share their own unique stories, every one interesting and beautiful. thanks for sharing yours, and hopefully more tell their stories, past and yet to be written.

It's the same with me. I am still alive because of Pinegrove. Hell, I consider myself happy now. I still remember the day I learned how to play Aphasia and the lyrics just rolled right off my tongue, flooding into my bedroom, drowning me in satisfaction. Stephans-Hall is a genius in my eyes and I am so thankful for his existence.

I always feel weird about liking an artist that I found on tik tok instead of finding them the "natural" way(whatever that is), but there's something about pinegrove that's so intimate despite their growing popularity. To me, it doesn't matter that I found this band through the mainstream pipeline. All that matters is that I'm having a great time jumping into the rabbit hole of their music.

I've seen a version of this comment across all their videos. can i ask what's so bad about finding good music via tiktok? I don't quite get it.
@studywithnat29
@studywithnat29 10 ай бұрын
@@kierand9410 for me, I think it comes from a slight critiquing point with the indie crowd, and that is that finding an artist from this genre through things like tik tok are too mainstream and therefore you can't be a true fan or whatever. I think it's just that feeling of "I found them before they were big" that makes new listeners a little ashamed of finding them after they were really only in the undercurrents.
@kierand9410
@kierand9410 10 ай бұрын
@@studywithnat29 I get you. To me, a true fan is defined less by how you first came into contact with the music, and more about how support it after that point. It’s safe to say any band would think dimly of any ‘true fan’ dismissing a new fan because of the platform they discovered their music on, but yours doesn’t seem to be an uncommon comment so clearly it’s something people get into a bit of a funk over.
@nonebeach
@nonebeach Ай бұрын
that isn't the point tho. i found pinegrove back in the day when basement covered "problems" in a train station back, which isn't natural either. indie fans start gatekeeping when people only listen to the one song and disregard the rest of the compilation that Need 2 is on.

I discovered Cardinal when I was in a romantic relationship that first was at a distance but then we started to live together (first time I did that). Size of the Moon was my favorite song from the album and the lines were so direct for me: "...when we made some room and moved ourselves around in it?" represented the good times we were having in our little apartment, dancing together and feeling a lot of things being in a new city away from our families and friends. And then "we had good ideas but we never left that fucking room" was the other side, like we both shared an interest in photography and other things we wanted to do but instead of being out there doing something creative we kept outselves in that room we were living and we just got stagnant. Much text sorry, I'm just happy to see you talking about Pinegrove and some of the emo scene, just as I enjoy your fashion content

pinegrove has actually changed me for the better. when i was first getting into their music, i would literally gasp at lyrics. old friends, size of the moon, days, new friends, and the metronome are some of my all time favorite songs. i love reading everyone else’s favorites in the comments!

This video talking about the “Caravaggio” line is such a funny coincidence. I am a musician heavily inspired by Pinegrove, however I am currently student teaching 8th grade history. I was lesson planning today on the topic of “Baroque art” and when I saw the name Caravaggio in the textbook everything clicked. I immediately listened to Size of the Moon for conformation. Evan is such a brilliant and intelligent writer. It’s just funny to me that I had this realization earlier today, and then this video is giving me a deja vu epiphany on how brilliant Pinegrove is. Really awesome video!

Pinegrove's lyrics. I want to scream them when I'm 80 at lost 20-year-olds. I want to sing them on a porch in Appalachia. I want to cry them into someone's neck while i smile because we both get it.

One of my favorite bands in that genre ! Well done man! Don’t know if you’re into old Turnover stuff like PV or some emo/shoegaze like Gleemer but it would be so sick if you make a video about those bands one day. I also think that Christian Holden from The Hotelier has lyrics that are quite complex but extremely powerful. Especially the album Home like Noplace Is There.

I think you might be a tiny bit off when you refer to country not being accepted, because their vibe when it comes to country is a lot more pre-modern country, and not mainstream "sold to the masses" country, think Morgan Wallen vs something like Johnny Cash, not that they resemble Cash at all, but their country aesthetic leans way more towards older, more respected and influential country. Also, friendly critique, you might want to spell check, you misspelled renaissance, and you would say "Hall's influence" with an apostrophe. tbh usually I wouldn't be such a stickler but your video is very good so I think you could really benefit from making sure there are few to zero easy mistakes. Hope I don't sound too nitpicky

The bit at the end where you talk about not feeling great in a scene hit me hard. Been going to shows since 13 and I feel like more and more of a stranger in the scene as years go on. People love to talk about inclusivity unless it comes to befriending a neurodivergent person.. or so that’s been my experience

Ever since I discovered Pinegrove, they've literally become my favourite band. There's no other band or artist that comes close to their sound, feels and lyrics to me. Some close contenders would be Snail Mail or Mac Miller, but they still don't pass PG and Evan's talent.

I lived in south jersey and still do today. I remember seeing them all those years ago in Philly a couple times before they really started rolling. They are crazy amazing. I’m proud of the the scene we have here in the tri state area. I’m almost 30 but I’m glad my age group still have great music like this which can’t be said for the younger crowd. Emo and Punk and Indie will never die while we have anything to say about it.
