This was a one off tribute concert in 2007 at the O2 Arena in London to celebrate the life of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. Jason Bonham took the place of his late father on drums, he’s the only person on the planet qualified to play with these master musicians. Tickets were via an on line ballot, over 20 million people from around the world applied, a Guinness World Record - gig of the century!

My comment won't be well accepted probably. But let me 1st say I grew up loving Led Zep and saw them in concert 4 times in the 70's. The 1st 2 times they killed it. And like you said always played different from the studio cuts, which most many times I wasn't a fan of with most bands back then. But those 2 concert I saw early on in the 70's were the exception for me. The 3rd and 4th concert of them were horrible. Mainly due to Jimmy being shit faced and I'm guessing doing the drugs he was addicted to at the time. I Know it took him a while to realize how bad he was, but I found out 1st hand. Whatever he was doing I know I had binoculars and saw the Jack Daniels quart bottle half empty and a few cups and beer sitting on top of his amps at one of the concerts when he could barely stand, let alone play. He was so sloppy both at both those concerts. Don't mean to downgrade one of the best rock bands ever but that's how it was when I saw them. I'll keep those memories of the 1st 2 concerts in the early 70's in my head.

Diehard Zeppelin fans that have heard them do this song live, know that Page missed his cue near the end. At 10:22 he was supposed to start that ascending outro riff that they repeat for the remainder of the song. Jones recognized it, and it was covered up well. Page picked it up next time around.

You never know with Jimmy if it's intentional or not. Him especially, when he changes up his parts at times from the albums. I've seen them 4 times and sometimes I got upset that he didn't play a solo like he did on the album and then at other times I was glad he improvised. It was when he was drinking and doing hard drugs when touring that I lost some respect for him. But his blues solos live where some of the best I've heard.

@@peterbartolomeo9574 💯% agree. Extremely creative he was, along with the rest of Zeppelin. Regardless of not being able to play those 2 times out of the 4 I got to see them live, and feeling like I didn't get to see what I expected from them 2 times, he's still a major influence for me and I have deep respect overall for what he's given to music when music was so much more creative than it will probably ever be again.

As someone who found Led Zeppelin back in middle school I've been a big fan for 50 years now. While "Stairway to Heaven" is often considered their signature song or masterpiece, I personally feel "Kashmir" outshines it. While in high school this album. "Physical Grafitti", came out in 1975 and contains a lot of great music, this song stood out for me. Of course being a teenager and working part time after school the $13 or $14 dollars this album cost put a dent in my spending money, I had to have it. This concert was in December 2007, it was the first time the 3 surviving members did a full set since the death of John Bonham in 1980, his son Jason filled in here and dad would've been proud. They sound as good as it did on the album or any of the live perfornces from '75-'80. One of my regrets was never seeing them live back in the seventies as they played Madison Square Garden a few times and it's a short train ride from were I live.

Dana, few today get it but you do - this reaction was spot on. Back in the day we had many acts that brought this type of talent and energy to the stage. All this I’m afraid has nearly been lost in today’s music. Today’s acts had the best foundation to work from the world has ever produced and they blew it big time. So many of today’s act are out right garbage, no real talent, not even in the same universe - it’s an absolute crying shame at the talent deficit that exists in music today and I’m talking about many of the biggest acts of your generation. It’s now up to people like yourself to so clearly articulate the differences. Keep up the good work so that music like this is not forgotten. Thank you for doing what you do so well!

Kashmir was the last song Zeppelin ever played together in this one off concert in 2007, but Robert Plant the singer who was the epitome of the rock god of the 70's has been a solo artist for 40 years now. Hey Dani, if you get a chance, listen to Plant's solo material, and material from his collaboration with Alison Krauss whom as a partnership won several grammy's together from their album "Raising Sand." Not sure if Dani's still taking requests on here, but here goes: Rainbow's Stargazer, live at Loreley in 2016. Kashmir and Stargazer get compared quite often - two of the most majestic songs in rock. (Am sure Queen have a few majestic rock songs too!) The reason I mention this is that this was the first time Zeppelin played Kashmir in public since 1988, and that 2016 version of Stargazer was the first for almost as long. Both turned out to be among the best versions ever played. This was possibly the best number of the night in 2007 (other contenders - Trampled Underfoot and Song Remains the Same?). I wish Plant had agreed to do a couple more shows, but I'm glad the others chose not to bring in someone else.

Kashmir is the place in which the band imagines they are conversing with the old local prophets, about revelations and the coming of the Messiah. The sun burns, the sand dries their face. Very astute. It was there final performance of song Unfortunately they will probably never do this together again. You are so sensitive to what is going on with and inside the music.

This was 2008 28 years after their break up due to John Bonham's death. They remain so popular that they had to hold a lottery for tickets because they had 20 million ticket request if it was today they'd probably have the same if not more ticket requests.

The drummer was John Bonham's son, Jason (if you were unaware); the great John Paul Jones on Bass/Mandolin/ Recorder (plus a few more instruments)...this version of 'Kashmir' is one of their finest renditions. Greetings from Ireland !!

Not sure what you were watching, but John Paul Jones was playing the keyboard, and is still very much alive.

Gross error on my part, Chris - I was (for some unaccountable reason thinking of Chris Squire - Yes' bassist; Of course, Paul Jones is still alive) listening to 'Close To The Edge only an hour earlier. I'd had a busy day at work, & consequently very tired. I'll edit the above.

New sub. You might wish to see another side of Zep. They were so diverse...they also had lovely acoustic songs. Everyone has their favorites, but mine is Thats The Way....Robert can sing. A gentle song as well as belt it out....you cannot experience Zep live anymore the way I did in 1977, but Robert Plant and John Paul Jones still perform, and up to last year were still touring. Hope they come back to the US again....

Yeah, a NY girl! This is the best Live version of this song out there and it's not bad.Especially since everyone but the drummer is over 60 years old here. But this is one of the few times I think the studio version is better than any of the live versions. This concert was from around 2005. The song came out 30 years earlier. It was the one and only show they had played a complete concert together since I think 1979. They had to sell the tickets by lottery because millions of people wanted them. Also I think one dude payed almost 200k for them.
