S pokoryonnykh odnazhdy nebesnykh vershin
Po stupenyam, obuglennym na zemlyu skhodim
Skvozʹ pritselʹnyye zalpy navetov i lzhi

Skolʹko nas poleglo v etom dolgom pokhode

Writting commentary too late. The song has a line about the third toast. This is now a traditional toast in the post-Soviet space, which came just from the time of Afghanistan. This toast is raised to those who had died. No one clinks their glasses, says anything, and stands up. The most popular prase "Za teh, kogo ne s nami" or "Za teh, kto ne vernulsya", this translite as "for those who are not with us" and "for those who did not return". Thank you for this video, hello from Russia, from the veteran's of Afganistan grandson.

@@edwardianswifter6467 No, нами(nami) is the instrumental case(one of the grammar cases in Russian) of мы(we, first person plural pronoun). The word за(za) with an instrumental case noun implies that something is behind the instrumental noun. Same goes with "С нами Бог", God is with us.

Accidentally found this channel, love it I believe it is a terrible injustice that Soviet veterans of the Afghan war, because of circumstances in which they were not guilty, because of what happened to the country, never received the recognition they deserve. But we (ordinary people) always knew who they were in that faraway land. At least we'll never hear again those stupid jokes from westerners how Soviets 'failed' in Afghanistan. Now everyone can compare the Soviet well organized withdrawal (proudly, with banners and music) with that mess we just saw.

35 years... Feels like nothing. This song still feels unique. Even me, who is senseless most of the time. Veterans of this war lost not only their friends or they mind. Two years later people, who made the decision to withdraw forces from Afghan, just killed, what remained as USSR in 1991, for which those most of guys fought and died. They lost their future. Respect to those people, who fought there for security of the southern soviet borders and big F to the country and their people, who were betrayed by "new" politicians of perestroika.

During 9th of may here in Vilnius , there is always this group of both VDV on normal infantry guys who gather. They stand out not because of their uniforms or the sky blue berrets....But their size. 2 m tall , buff guys , who are well into their 60s often times. These men went through hell and came back to a new hell which was their country falling apart. They survived 2 wars in reality. One in Afghan , one back home , and they came out still being human , still being able to smile and honor soldiers who died in WW2 by coming to the 9th of may celebrations....These men are strong , probobly the strongest you will be able to find around the world.

It would be interesting to see a conversation between an American Afghanistan vet and a Russian Afghanistan vet. Our nations have much more in common then we like to realize, hopefully our shared trauma in that country can help us to realize this and come together as brothers. @Depresso Caspico Revamped I think there's lots of room for an indictment against the Brentwood agreement. If you want to imagine a world where America has a hands off approach, imagine OPEC selling crude oil for gold but then they have fight their own goddamm wars. That means Saudi, Iran ,Iraq, Syria and Egypt has to have their own military that does more than look pretty in a parade . That means soldiers that aren't afraid of their own king dictator. Also means America put producing crude oil. I'd love to live in that world unfortunately we have the majority of " trained Marxists " . Call me a pessimist but America is on its last leg and when we go down everybody else goes down.

Thank you- I decided to translate these songs because, ever since I first heard songs from the soviet afghan war, I was always captivated by them- how much emotion and power but also just that I love them from a musical point of view. I don't know much russian but every time I copied the lyrics into google translate, I found it gave much more depth to the song and changed how I listened. So, I started making these videos, a little bit like how the channel "Kocayine" translated songs from the yugoslav war. I guess in a sense it is one way of remembering the war, and all who gave their lives in it.

The hell starts when all these guys come back all around union. they were just like veterans of Vietnam, no one needed and forgotten. Instead, they were sheltered by criminal groups, drugs and alcohol. they were angry, and lost their temper, and were wroth with all the world for that iniquity. why some guys served inside the country where there is no danger, why the world does not recognize them. Why civilians don't understand them. The war in Afghanistan has been classified for a long time, and civilians were unaware of it. And these people soldiers continued to fight ... between them and my father's friend. a talkative, cheerful, friendly 18-year-old guy went out to the army. from Afghanistan returning skinny, tired, depressed and not communicating with anyone. committed suicide a couple of years later.
