I'm surprised how many westerners here praising the war they actually know little about and being thereof excited. I clearly remember how was this war perceived back in my childhood, there was nothing "heroic" thereabout. Coming not from the Russian federation, but from the adjacent former Soviet country, my view might be somehow distorted, however still the overall vibe was absolutely negative and here I cannot be mistaken. Also in my grandpa's village there were two experienced former Soviet militants, fighting for opposite sides, one received remuneration from the Kremlin, another from the Saudis. They simply earned the money which they would never earn otherwise in their entire life, returned home after the war ended but never boasted about it, neither were proud themselves. So please do not romanticise that meat grinder and, if you want to learn more about that events, watch movie called Chistilische filmed very realistically exactly when the conflict was still going on based on what direct participants of that events have witnessed.
