Comparison Unboxing video of the KastKing Kestrel Elite MFS (Micro Finesse System) vs the Original Kestrel Elite BFS. Let's the differences between these two finesse baitcasting reels. These were sent to me by KastKing to provide feedback for future reel improvements. The KastKing Kestrel Elite MFS is a model that is currently sold only in Asia. Perhaps they will bring it over to the US soon?

Kastking is the king of "more of the same". No one needs nothing more than a VE2, imho. Thanks for sharing.

While there's many variations, they fiddled around mainly in Asia before bringing stuff to US. The VE2 is now the Kestrel. This is different than VE2. But if VE2 was that great... They should have taken that and made it better as the Elite. The MFS came out for a while from my understanding. This reel sounds and feels better than all the other variants.

Can't wait to see the casting video. If it can handle micro lures for trout, I'd get one in a heartbeat. Need something for these Eastern sierra trout.

Was the new spool modified in some way perhaps to reduce the braking?

I'm not exactly sure in the approach for Weight reduction, but that is a good amount shaved for something that light already. Seems same size, missing a port... Probably thinned it out as much as possible, this they didn't drill holes to ensure it stayed strong for the structure? Just my guess!

IPT is easy to calculate, when spooling the reel, how much line on the first turn and how much on the last turn...average it....boom

I think having a mid woukd be better because if we don't even go to max spool, let's take the first few cranks and just avg with half way filled. More accurate ;)

Yes it changes over. But might have some difference In shaft length. I had to back out the tension on the Elite reel when I tried putting the MFS spool in. Once that's in, it spins! Didn't test how it behaves, but my assumption is that it will be the same!

Didn't you remove one of the magnets from your Kestrel at one time? Seems like an easy fix for the over breaking. I love my Kestrel Elite especially after upgrading the spool bearings to ABEC 7 rated hybrid ceramics.

Yes sir. It wasn't easy lol. I snapped a few razor blade tips! At 220, I felt that i should not need to modify it in any way! But glad you are enjoying the reel. I have to say, you will like this one way more!

This is funny. I just returned my Kestrel Elite to Amazon today! I may have just gotten a bad copy, but there was something wonky with it. It felt a little gritty, and it wasn't any smoother than my Dark Wolf Ultra clones (Micro Monster and Soloking). I just didn't feel it was worth the price tag. When does this new one come out? I can't seem to find it anywhere yet. Looking forward to the casting video!!

This is a reel sold only in Asia. I assume it will come some eventually since they have reached out to me. I have no clue if they will bring it out or when they will. Hope they could come in and share that info!

you probably did get a bad one. I have both the elite and ve2 and both of mine are smooth and quiet.

I had to do the same with my first kestrel elite! I recently got 2 more and no issues with those, so maybe it's a tolerance variance with the gears

Some of KK stuff are terrible out of the box. The zephyr casting reel that I portrayed recently went straight back to Amazon!

So they have improved both the Kestrel and also the Kestrel Elite?

Hmmm... Let me put it this way! Kestrel is a rebranded of Valiant Eagle 2, making it better than kestrel elite due to the retracted position of the magnetic braking system. It's not far into the spool anymore, making it not super over braked The Kestrel Elite was not touched I believe since launch. Only thing changed is msrp from 220 to 200. They did not put the kestrel elite MFS spool into the kestrel nor kestrel elite. It be interesting tho!

@@rawrfishing so the kestrel elite MFS is a new Chinese offering that's a little different from the Amazon elite? And that's seperate from the new Kestrel where they fixed the over braking from the original kestrel?

MFS is an old Chinese offering that may come to the US. The MFS is not the same as the Elite bfs, one sold in the US on Amazon or KK USA Website And yes this MFS is not the same as the Kestrel. The solution of the two are different.

I think this was released last year in Asia... So if they bring something better... Then they would truly be picking up! They need to work on the rods tho
