for quick prototyping, I now prefer CNC PCBs - as the process is much more quicker with more accurate holes. Been doing this and the photo methods before.

I love how you do toner transfer to get a "silkscreen"... that's nice. Also your "ancient" iron is fabulous. What concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide do you use.... I assume it's quite strong because of the relative "weakness" of citric acid????? In the UK, we can only get 12% peroxide as our government fear we will use greater concentrations to make missiles or something. I like Hydrochloric Acid because, as Nurd Rage taught us, we can use the resulting Copper Chloride as an etchant itself.

Developer at the beauty supply shop. But 12% is sufficient. Even in the US, anything greater than about 12% isn't readily available. We can get it, but it's a specialty item. 40 volume developer for hair color is 12% h2o2.

Oh my god, that's so much work. Sorry if I sound off-putting but this seems like so much wasted effort. And it's sponsored by JLCPCB which can make proper double-sided (or 4-layer) PCBs suitable for 0.5 mm pitch SMT components and plated vias and what not very cheap. By the time you finish the whole DIY method (which I assume also fail in some way regularly) you will almost have the finished PCBs in your mail box for just a little bit more money.

PAINSTAKING! When you tinned the copper with flux and solder! I don’t know which would leave less pollution or make less threat to personal health: dipping it in that expensive ‘liquid tin’ or doing it like you, with solder? I went the whole silk screen from photosensitive emulsion course, and really yours is probably even better. I don’t make proper stainless steel screens and stencils, just use the one they sell at the art shop for T-shirts. So whichever route you take in the end will be result of ongoing experiences, and always making use of what you have to hand in a makeshift manner. Thank you very much for sharing this!!

Really the only questionable part of that was the copper oxide from the etching. Even that is not all that uncommon given it's used in some powdered cleaners in small quantities. Citric acid and peroxide are used in many things you normally rinse into the sewage system. Such as dishwashing rinse agents and many hair products. Would you want to do this if on a commercial scale, certainly not. But as a homemade product it's probably negligible.
