Great vid hell of a sword the nodachi

As a lover truly of the nodachi or ōdachi, field sword, the demonstration really shows alot about the sword and proves the misconceptions wrong, sure a katana in it’s own enviroment and a european longsword in it’s own is where they excel but the odachi truly is one that is one to be fearful of and i wish people on youtube that do reviews and example videos of the swords nd the history talked about more, also the very vrsatile and unique stances and moves you can peform in comparison to other swords using their length as the strong point and big leverage full swings. You perfectly executed how even though length and an increase in weight shows and plays a role in the ability of such a weapon but perfectly demonstrated that it can also be quite agile in close quarters when compared to it’s strengths, i’m still waiting ofr someone to make a great comparison of a fight between the o’ katana and a spear.

The uchi-katana looks more like a ko-katana. The slightly shorter version of the typical uchi-katana. The odachi also looks more like an O-katana. Slightly longer than typical uchi-katana but not as long as what is typical of an odachi/nodachi. That would show a great difference in length but not to the point of the difference between an uchi-katana and odachi which is usually by several inches. I could be wrong but I greatly researched the lengths of different Japanese swords and though they do vary they tend to stay within a small range of sizes within the respective descriptions.

There is also the equivalent of a Nodachi IN China called Miao Dao Leaf Sabre.

Very interesting! Where can one buy a nodachi steel blunt with enough flex for sparring? SIGI doesn't have anything longer than 84cm blade length (their Katana XL model), and Akado Armory will have long blades on offer but they haven't officially opened their shop yet, so I'd love to know who else is selling such training weapons.
