Before the song Kate introduces the members of the band: Pat Donaldson (bass), Gordy Adamson (drums), Andrew Cowan (guitar), Gilles Losier (violin), Dane Lanken (bass voice), Chaim Tannenbaum (voice, harmonica on this piece but other instruments on other songs), and Jane McGarrigle.
Source video (mediocre) is VHS SP recorded from a TV broadcast; audio is synced from a separately-recorded FM stereo simulcast.

I heard this, on the radio, in 1981-1982, and spend endless hours finding the record. Children, MTV had not even gotten to Sweden. - In French, you say?

Lovely memories. Brings me back to Folk Club nights in Dublin Ireland. Knocked me dead when I heard it first. Still is timeless.

I love this version. More than the original - more instruments, more emphasis on the syncopated rhythm, depth in voices arragements. Thank you for sharing.

Been a McGarrigle fan since first LP came out, but only discovered this amazing video this year. Excellent work on stage and behind the camera, and a truly precious time capsule. RIP Kate and thank you.

Discovered them in the mid 70's and have five of their LP,s. Sadly underrated in the UK. Great song..Great Musicians. Greatly missed..

so true .. UK only had the cult following ..saw them in London at the Venue .. a good crowd 2000..then in Leeds 8 years later with Libre Siffre and Rufus wainright ..only 80 there at the irish Centre .! crazy granville d clarke (ex foggy dew-O)

I lived a couple miles from the Creek...The Red Creek was and still is a very popular place, but......missed them. This song is excellent!

Sunday. She'd been suffering from sarcoma. She was 63. I don't think they'd let the public know about her illness until the death announcement. It was a pretty big blow to a lot of people.

Kirsty MacColl may have covered this song but she didn't write it. It was written by Anna together with Philippe Tatartcheff, who wrote the French lyrics for many of Kate and Anna's songs.

I loved her and Anna, I've been listening to their stuff all night since hearing the news here. Yeah, good old cancer. She was too young to be taken away. I'm surprised at how many of their great songs don't seem to be on KZfaq, like (I don't speak French, so forgive the spelling) E Conte Dances from French Record. Thanks for the reply, take care.

Lots of intros .... Music starts at 1:21 Absolutely loved the whole "French Record". Wonderful to see it done so well on a live stage! (Why is it that the party always kicks into overdrive as soon as the accordian makes an entrance!)

Is the whole concert on dvd somewhere? The extracts are just fabulous. I live in the U.K. and was fortunate enough to see Kate and Anna, plus Jane and their band about 3 times when they toured here. I love them.

@Scum71succer Your sensibilities are correct. Don't forget that Cajun is a corruption of Arcadian (from Nova Scotia) and these French-speakers migrated, under duress, to Louisiana.

No way this is better than the studio version. Strange that Anna seemed to be avoiding that important and for this song very characteristic high note that should be sung in head voice. Maybe she didn't trust herself with it live and took away from the song one of its most important features.
