No doubt, one of Chopin's most under-appreciated misunderstood works. It shows, upon careful analysis, the mark a true craftsman of music at the peak of his powers. The genius overflows in ways that are not easily discernible to the casual listener. This work (along with the Ballades, the Fantasy in F-minor, the Barcarolle, and of course, the Mazurkas) places Chopin in the ranks of the greatest composers. And Ms. Liu plays it quite beautifully.

There's something about her... The focus, one-pointed consciousness, effortlesness, ears wide open and fingertips so sensitive without allowing any distraction, feeling the music as if she's telling her parents about something special that just happened. To me this is piano playing on the highest level. But before all this, she must be a mystic, knowingly or not. After all the message is about inner peace, isn't it?

I am not the only one who feels she should have won the gold instead of the bronze medal, and probably would have were it not for the low score awarded by (jealous?) I can hardly imagine Martha thinking 'too dreamy' as she herself has this quality in her playing often times. Liu's polonaise was a miracle and I would like to think Martha was touched by it. Coughing at these competitions must be considered a crime. Do you see anyone coming to a marathon and try to tackle the runners? It affects everyone from the pianists to the jury members because it creates a negative emotion, disrupts the musicians' concentration and generally damages the whole atmosphere. Chopin Competition please at least warn people! I was blissfully swimming in dreams when the guy at 11:21 just annoyed me to the point of writing an angry comment under this magnificent performance. Ruined the whole recording for me. If you are coughing, stay at home and don't ruin it for the rest of us.

Definition of a first world problem. Imagine being so bothered by a person coughing. I get it- it’s sort of annoying. It’s not worth writing a literal diatribe over, though.

It is a sin of the judges that they did not let her win.

Kate Liu is fit for 1th place Winner. But why she earned the 3rd place??? Her playing is like a flowing water, and she doesn't matter of her gown which never changes. (I like it). Not a fussy performance with blinky gown.

The winners are judged base on their concerto performance. If you were to listen to her performance there, there are lots of mistakes that are not tolerable especially at the concerto's 3rd movement. I listened to the prize winner, second, and kate's performance. The judges were not wrong.
