Professor Karol Sikora, an oncologist and former director of the World Health Organization Cancer Program, discusses the challenges and advancements in cancer care. With one in two people facing a cancer diagnosis, the need for personalized treatments and improved diagnosis times is crucial. Professor Sikora shared insights on the evolving therapies and the importance of a holistic approach to cancer treatment.
What has the princess announced?
Kate has revealed she is in the early stages of a course of preventative chemotherapy.
Tests at the time of her abdominal surgery on January 16 showed her condition was non-cancerous, but post-operative tests found cancer had been present.
She said the surgery was successful and she took time to recover from the major operation in order to start the treatment.
What type of cancer was found?
It has not been disclosed. Kensington Palace said no further medical information will be shared, and that Kate has a right to medical privacy just like everyone else.
When did the princess find out about the cancer?
Once post-operative tests had been completed and results reviewed, but an exact date has not be released.
What treatment is Kate having?
The princess is now on a recovery pathway having commenced a course of preventative chemotherapy.
What is the princess’ prognosis?
Kensington Palace are not commenting on this.
But Kate said in her message: “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.
“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”
When did she start treatment?
Kate began a course of preventative chemotherapy in late February.
How long will the chemotherapy last?
This is understood to be subject to medical advice.
Kensington Palace is not commenting on the length of the course, or how often she is having treatment or where.
Was news of the cancer the reason the Prince of Wales pulled out of the memorial service for King Constantine of Greece on February 27?
Yes. At the time, Kensington Palace said it was due to a “personal matter” but gave no further details.
It is understood this was the reason William missed his late godfather’s service at short notice.
Why is Kensington Palace only sharing the news now?
The Palace said: “The princess wanted to share this information when she and the prince felt it was right for them as a family.”.

My friend's husband recently died of cancer . He was treated privately . My husband had cancer and survived . He had state care but it dosent matter which , it is how early it is caught and what type it is . Wishing the King and Princess Catherine a full recovery and everybody else out there who has cancer.

I’m the same age as Princess Diana. I grew up admiring her, loved her and cried for her loss immensely! This hysteria and fixation with Cathrine, princess of Wales, brings everything back, when Princess Diana was chased, stocked and anything to see her, talk about her or just a glimpse of her. It’s like reliving those days again. May we have a different ending and see our beautiful and beloved princess happy, healthy for many many years to come. Let her rest and heal! Please! ❤

From my own experience I just prayed I’d see all of my children into adulthood, thereafter I could accept my fate. Thankfully I’m still alive and feel well and my youngest is 19 🙏 As I move forward I accept I cannot live forever, that’s impossible, but I do want quality of life rather than quantity, and my treatment choice will allow for quality.

With all the money that has gone into cancer research over the years, shouldn't it be further forward than we are now? Now, it takes 2 - 3 weeks to see a GP, so that delay is part of the problem! I am sure the treatment itself is very good!

As a current cancer warrior myself, I really hope millions of people listen to this as it is such an eye opener on the whole subject. I am having adjuvant (preventative) treatment following chemo, surgery, & around the radiation I start in a few days. I think we should step back take a pause and leave our Princess and her family alone. She is a human being first and foremost and as a Canadian I have been appalled at the media and people on social media how they have been so disrespectful to her as she goes through the terrible illness. Send prayers her way and stop talking about her. My father dies of cancer, my husband had cancer and my daughter when she was 33 years was diagnosed with cancer. She had two small boys 3 years and 1 year old and it was during Covid when visiting from house to house was not allowed. Thank God we were already living with them so we could help. Friends had offered to help when we found out but Covid hit and they couldn’t. It was a very difficult time for us. She had several rounds of chemo then several rounds of radiation we watched her suffer our hearts broke,only by the grace of God did we get through those dark days. So people please pray and send love and leave them alone. We live in such a cruel world mankind has really reached the bottom the way they treat the Royal Family these days. Sad how they attack them but then, the two traitors led the way with their lies and attacks on the family. Sad to say but he is a terrible son and brother, he also allowed his vile wife to disrespect them from our beloved late Queen down to his father, brother and Catherine. They did not deserve this from the two of them. Stress can cause lots of sickness. May God give our beloved Princess of Wales strength and grace through these difficult days.

My father had cancer, he was treated under the nhs, he recovered from it. So anyone trying to say that well shes ok she has private treatment, it doesnt matter if your treatment is private or not. A person's ability to overcome and beat cancer all depends on the persons general health beforehand, the type of cancer they have and if its been caught early enough. The prognosis of Catherine beating this sounds good but its nothing to do with her getting private and nhs treatment. Be thankful we even have an nhs that anyone in this country WILL recieve treatment at all. My thoughts go to her and william and the children. Now, enough is enough. Stop the speculations and just leave her alone!

I live in USA we had to spend all of our saving to treat my husband and he still passed away from cancer. we have one of the biggest and supposedly the best cancer hospitals in USA here in Houston M D Anderson. My sister had cancer and she lived in UK and she had the greatest of care, sadly she passed away she was diagnosed to late. My sister kept saying it was just old age as to why she did not feel well, she was 76.

The uk is excellent i had immediate radical su4gery for cancer in 2012 ,here in Italy i have waited 11 months for cancer treatment so far ! And the lesion has grown to 4 times the size so I would n3ver knock the nhs 🙏

There is an astounding increase in new cancer diagnosis and resurgence or resolved, remote cancers. Healthcare workers see increase in gastrointestinal cancers in younger women. That is stomach and intestinal. What's that about?

It's a desperate attempt to salvage reputation and end speculation. Blurry production for a real human. The doctored photo was much clear. Legs crossed after major abdominal doesn't fit comfortably, the right is odd, purposed exposure of the ring. The supportive husband should be next to her on a large bench holding her hand I would expect. The cancer story is like for Charles to be less seen. First wasn't cancer, now it is. Charles and Fergie were transparent to their cancer. Why all the fake photos if cancer was real. Sadly they losing popularity all over the world and leveled up with this staged act. KATE: it's me but it's not me.... and I kept saying watch the news, something shocking coming. It's going to be bizarre with every attempt.
