For the first Star Trek show with a female captain, they made a great choice in Kate.

I can honestly say that practically all the Star Trek shows; the original, next generation, deep space nine, voyager. are all masterpieces. You made a great captain, Kate.

She is actually an even more impressive woman than the character she portrays. My favourite actress by a mile.

I didn't watch Star Trek Voyager for years because her voice annoyed the hell out of me. I finally sucked it up and watched it though and it was a great series. Captain Janeway is awesome.

For crying out loud ppl she's 56 years old! Voyager was 10 years ago. It never ceases to amaze me how today's youth will fault others for not being able to halt the aging process. I'd love to see you guys look as good at her age.

Lots of great actors in all of the various series and movies. She is not only my favorite Captain but my favorite cast member. Though Jeri is pretty darn funny when they allowed her run with things. The intoxicated Borg version of "I love you, man!" is in my opinion a brilliant comic relief scene.

I never took Voyager seriously, but that's all the writers' fault, not the actors. I doubt it would have even lasted seven seasons without her guidance. Thank you for sharing this wonderful interview.

I must say that honestly when I first saw her, I thought OMG she has really aged! But now that I think about it in general it HAS been 11 years now since Voyager ended and she is 56 yrs old now of course. I think she still looks great though. Love her hair in this! :D It's a lot lighter in this..almost blonde and it can make a few women look older if it's too light. It's not too light on her though. :) I miss Voyager..and TOS reruns.

@22centman36 What's sfunny about this whole conversation is Kate STILL has the respect of her Voyager colleagues, while William barely speaks to the people from his show. Being high on the fact that you are the "Shat" is nothing compared with having a good relationship with those around you. As for Kirk being all that, this myth was debunked when Patrick Stewart came. He brought class with him and didn't have to make his fellow actors feel like crap just so he could feel good.

To me Sisko is by far the most complex captain: single father, Starfleet officer, emissary to the Bajoran prophets, and war hero from the Dominion War. All wrapped up in one package...and somehow reasonably well integrated.

I can't believe Voyager ended in 2001(such along time ago.) I guess it doesn't seem as long because of the reruns afterwards.

@katya355 And don't forget about the Equinox episode. I think that was way darker than Year of Hell. But honestly, I don't know how much viewership a Star Trek show with nothing but that would have gotten. I would have loved it, but I think most fans want and expect some level of optimism and happy endings in ST.

You're slightly off. Voyager made it's premiere in 1995 and ended in 2001. But, I get what you were saying about Mulgrew being more than a decade older than after Voyager's finale.

The character was a mixed bag. Janeway's personality varied from script to script and sometimes she was unbarable. But that's not Kate Mulgrew's fault. As an actress she did all she could for the role. It was the writers letting the series down.

Everything they went through and lost who could blame her. He would have to have been inhuman to not lose her mind after all that.

Janeway > Kirk+ Picard + Sisko + Archer And Mulgrew is not only a great actress but also a wonderful woman. Because of Muldrew and Janeway I decided to call my daughter Kathryn :))))

I thought Bill was much harder on Kate than the rest of the Captains he interviewed. Almost like he was trying to break her or something. But she held her own.

@st8pl8guy Few kilos over or under, she is an awesome actress and thats her deal. Perhaps she realizes this fact you mention of her weight. I would much prefer to see her being humble and decent rather than adhering to an all too familiar starve for success formula. That said, being too overweight is not healthy and a holodeck WOULD be a great place to trim down. Gonna respect her for what she did and not how she looks personally.

Shatner should have concluded the interview with a classic Kirk make-out line about how he is the darkness of space and Kate is the starlight that gives the galaxy it's beauty or something heh heh...Kirk would have totally macked on Janeway! Damn that would have been funny to see.
