Fear Strikes: Snake Encounter During Harvest + BIG DEBATE
Today is the fifth day of harvest on the fourth-generation Montana farm and a LOT happens. You will see Grandpa, Uncle Chris, Dad, Trevor and Darcy throughout the video. During lunch, a heated harvest debate happens (Combines vs Swathers). Where do you stand with the combines or the swather, comment below your team!! Trevor ends up plugging the combine, and and realizes its not as fun as it looks. He also makes an appearance from the top of the combine. As I continue combining, I find a feather which I get out to pick up. Just moments after I start combining again, I see a snake! Dad is not very pleased that I get out to explore and try to find it!! At the end of the day we move the combines to a new field and get to see a spectacular sunset.

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 19-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great-grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.

Kate, it is always so enjoyable to watch your videos. Since I grew up about 1/2 hour South of you I can related to soooo many things you talk about. I had to laugh when I heard you mention going over the furrows is not fun. That is so true. So much so that my dad modified a drill specifically to plant hay with random seed placement and we ended up with not only smoother fields but better fields as well. Water distributed better and a whole lot of other things seemed to come together. Anyway, the snakes were also a big memory. I grew up a few hundred yards from a snake den. There was always a keen sense of buzztail awareness everywhere we went but even so, I still had multiple close calls. Want to see a reeeeeeeally angry rattlesnake. Watch one get sucked up into a bailer:-) Keep up with these excellent videos, its a walk down memory lane for me.

You mentioned "this is really good wheat", any comparison yields? Like vs last year or how the weather helped this year? Some farms use glyphosate to 'dry down' the grain before harvest, with the swathers are you able to avoid those chemicals?

@4:25 I imagine, it would be difficult for me to live in such a place. Almost no trees, no flowers, no forests, no changes in the topographical relief. Seems like a vast desert. I would feel lonely and lost. Anyways, thank you Kate, you are a flower yourself ! God bless !

Is there anything yall do to give back to the soil ? after growing the wheat for so many plantings ? Like fertilizer or adding more soil , planting crops like soybean to put nitrogen back in ?
