So damn good, seriously. Able to portray more stifled emotion in a heartbeat than most sobbing starlet.

One of the greatest films ever made. Perfectly cast. Kate & O'Toole are perfection.

She had such a remarkable career that spanned so many eras, but this remains my favourite performance

Vivienne Leigh was apparently considered for this part. I wonder how differently she would have played it.

Well, they'd of had to get a ouija board to ask her because she was several months dead by the time they started production/rehearsals on this film.

@@drakemulligans3732 I guess the speculation is if she hadn't died, and was still fit to act in the role. Kate was hard to beat though.

I think this role is better played by an English actress.

Sorry Tim, but Kate should have gotten the Oscar by herself! Streisand gave a great performance, but Kate's depth and perception made the role, Barbra's performance, while good, does not compare!

Funny, I saw an interview with Kate and she said of Barbara in "Funny Girl", " She was damn good in that picture." That's enough for me. Both Kate and Barbara were splendid in such different roles

i agree, was funny to have a tie! Oscars got tired of being stood up by Katharine Hepburn so they made another winner to ensure someone will still get up to the stage 😅

So I guess after he died she became basically the ruler of France and England while Richard was on Crusade.
@user-pk1gp7iy2o11 күн бұрын
Yes. Richard let her out of prison immediately.
@thomasplinguidy458810 күн бұрын
@@user-pk1gp7iy2o yes, and when Richard was imprisoned in Austria after his failed crusade, she plundered England with legendary thoroughness to raise the ransom for him. Historians still lament that there is practically no church silver left in England from the period before 1300 - it was all given to Duke Leopold of Austria.

Great movie.....acting wise.....but if these people really acted this way.....then they should all be put to the the sword....except Alais....

Historically they all kind of acted this way,, maybe not in word but definitely in action. Henry II (the oldest) Richard, and I think John as well as Elenor caused or carried out revolts against the king. He forgave his children but put Elenor in prison for 15 years until Richard became King. After a few years in prison King Henry soffened a bit (it was believed they married out of love) and let Queen Elenor out for State occasions and such.

There was so much infighting between this dynasty (I think they are Plantagenets) they were called the devils brood.
