She's so poetic. I first noticed it when I heard Alien She. A lot of people don't understand. They think her music is obscene & don't even bother listening to the lyrics. Their loss.

You think that now but dudes literally used to do this stuff to Kathleen Hanna and later Bikini Kill and riot grrrl bands in general. Even if it was part of the performance people have experienced this exact response irl.

I think every woman can relate to this in some way, shape or form. Definitely gave me the chills.

We all can. It’s men who try to silence and invalidate our experiences because they know what they do.

yeah, it's part of the piece is him speaking out saying it didn't happen, because so many times people say that about sexual abuse.

Kathleen Hanna should write a book of her spoken word and poems, really. She's such a talented writer.
@Shuffledaddy14 жыл бұрын
This is great. I read somewhere that Kathleen did a lot of spoken word poetry before her music career and someone encouraged her to start a band. Quite the treat, thanks for uploading.
@Belle-gq8sjАй бұрын
it was actually Kathy Acker that told her to start a band! Kathleen went to Kathy’s writing workshop and Kathy asked Kathleen why she wanted to write, and Kathleen said she wanted to be listened to, and Kathy told her no one listens to spoken word, so she told Kathleen Hanna to start a band and she did 😅

Kathleen is also very light hearted. She covers so much as in Le Tigre. She appeared to be possessed by this memory and spoke clearly to me. F'in off the hook grrrl. I am male but a strong feminist because I value a great range of expression. I like every genre of music but her band speaks to me the most.

amazing and powerful. kills the silence aroud sexual abuse/violence/incest. very healing. this isn't a female vs. male thing at all, men are sexually abused too, it's a powerful piece about one person's experience.

Le Tigre's "hiatus" is over- sort of. In '09 they were working w/ Christina Aguilera for new album. They were fun to see live. :) I have some confetti saved from one of the times I saw 'em and a bunch of crap fell from the ceiling, all pinata style & during the encore (Deceptacon). People were allowed on stage & danced w/ the band too I think. This happens at most T(i)NC shows I've been to as well so maybe I'm mixing things up. But they definitely dropped streamers+confetti into the crowd.. =)

*there is more written in the liner note the point to my posting was just to say that a connection between two people is just that. everyone has their shortcomings and overcoming the shortcomings is what makes some people extra special. K.H. has been an inspiration to me since I first discovered BK, and just from the pov of her being an idol to you(holden), I dont think you have to worry about character issues from her. young females need more influence from KH-types, not more mileys. kh rocks.

-have been together since 1996 I believe. And didn't marry for 10 whole years. Obviously they share a connection. And for anything else it is worth, a direct quote from KH herself from the insert of VK's sole release (not the entire insert, but I plan on uploading it shortly to my page for those intereted in reading/hearing- it would be up already but youtube's new 10min upload policy has made uploads more difficult for some things):

I've been trying to find this video for days now, as saw it in the middle of the night once and wanted to reply to this (and sohipimhop)'s comments. I don't want to get into a debate either- I'm just a random guy in his 20s and my opinion holds no more merit than a frog's honestly, because I can't get inside the minds of KH or AH. But I understand the admiration part- as a a young child, with the Beatles- even seeing them smoking cigs made me feel weird- disheartening almost. I understand that.

Who was that person talking while Kathleen was talking?
@godFlintstone14 жыл бұрын
-should not hold that against them. And I brought up the stripper & abortion thing, because to my knowledge and based on timeline, I think that happened w/ KH in the 80s too. KH and AH are both very smart, talented, and successful people obviously. As for attraction... that type of chemistry between two people is something only the two people can understand. I thought I found the love of my life back in Jan. and she's dating some guy in his 40s now (she's 22). Life is strange like that. KH & AH-

I'm sure the songs that ended up on here don't really reflect any of that... but I guess that's why typewriters exist." There is more written, but I the point to my postings-q

And the character cutoff count is preventing me from getting to my point. But if it makes you (holdenc96) feel any better, just from a morality standpoint- KH is awesome and I see nothing wrong with her marrying AH? People change, sohipimhop is correct. I like all of KH's musical projects more than the BBs, but I'm still a fan of both. That said- not to discredit KH in anyway whatsoever- but this is also a woman who has had an abortion, partook in stripping as a youth, etc. People change and we-

sorry..debate wasent the word i wanted to use. more like discuss haha...only because "Girls" came out in the 80s, when the Beastie Boys were kids. They wrote theyre silly bratty songs that i feel were borderline tounge-in-cheek. It's 30 years later..im pretty sure Adam has grown up. And as far as marriage determining certain 'gender roles", i feel its just an amazing example of house Kathleen is trying to say like hey, i can be married but im not gonna become some submissive housewife. id give

This movement was and is necessary. i just wish riot grrls and feminists in general would offer the olive branch to the men in the world who AREN'T abusive or misogynistic to them, and not define the "us and them" struggle solely by gender. I'm not saying Kathleen is like this, but some of the commenters here have that tone.
