Ingredients (材料):
500g glutinous rice flour (糯米粉)
250g sugar (白砂糖)
450ml water (水)
Golden syrup (焦糖) :
200g sugar (白砂糖)
50ml hot water (热水)
3-4 pieces of banana leaves for lining tins
3-4 大张香蕉叶

By far I have made 5 times the nian gao following your recipe, it turned out sooo well, at first I had some problem moulding the tin with banana leaves, this stage is vital important to yield a handsome looking end result, after the 5 th trial and 10 nian gao, at last the end result was sooo satisfying , tq so much for your guidance, bravo Kathrine 👏👏👏

When I was young, I help my mum prepared this Nian Gou. Our glutinous rice dough is mixed with white sugar until sugar totally dissolved. Will steamed for more than 12hr at medium fire until brown colour. Fond memories . Now in the sixty

I remember my grandmother making this every year for ourselves and distribute to relatives; my grandfather would gather the firewoods prior and keep watch during the 12 hours steaming process. We used rattan basket container. Never thought of making my own until recently.

Thanks for the post ma'am, it's heavenly tempting and one of my favorite sticky cake especially on CNY. My Chinese neighbor auntie use to make for me if I request to her to make for me unfortunately she was called by God to be with him in heaven. I deeply missed her smile and cooking medical student Malaysia..👌

Tq For sharing. If I steam in the night but less than 5 hours, I switched off the fire n cover leave ajar, it's ok if I still continue the balance hours of steaming next day? Pl advise

Easy recipe. 😊 How do you actually serve the cake? Is this the one where you slice it then fry it?

You can eat it as it is because it is already delicious. Or you can fry it with a batter made of fluor and egg or the most delicious one (for me at least 😀) steam it together with grated young coconut.

Hello!! Do you pour the hot syrup into the glutinous flour mix. Or wait for it to cool before mixing in? Thanks!

No need to wait for cold, pour right away.

make your own golden syrup... it just sugar and water ( just be careful not to cook it too long as It will be bitter... )

No. It will be difficult to remove the paper because it is so sticky . Just grease a cake pan or muffin pan or individual ramekins etc.

Itu kue langit namanya. Thian Pan. Mengapa disebut kue langit? Dalam almanak Imlek ada satu hari yg namanya hari menambal langit,Pu Thian Chon yg artinya menambal langit. Dari mana asal usul sehingga org "Tionghoa" bisa punya kisah turun temurun seperti itu? Itu tak lain karena orang Tionghoa mengikuti yg tertulis dalam Alkitab. Itu terjadi pada saat kisah Nuh dgn bahteranya. Setelah sekian banyak hari Nuh berada didalam bahtera maka TUHAN ingat akannya dan lalu menutup mata air yg didalam lautan dan menutup tingkap2 langit yg menurunkan air hujan itu. Itulah hari dimana orang Tionghoa merayakannya tiap tahun yg disebua jari menutup langit. Itu terjadi setelah hari raya tahun baru Imlek dimana kita tahu menjelang setiap hari raya Imlek itu ada curah hujan yg sangat tinggi dan mulai berkurang setelah hari menambal langit itu yg puncaknya adalah hari Ceng Beng ( jernih dan terbang) tiba. Setiap orang Tionghoa merayakan hari2 rayanya itu tak lepas dari apa yg tertulis didalam Alkitab. Sungguh,bangsa besar itu sangat Alkitabiah. Orang2 Tionghoa seyogyanya sangat bersyukur atas anugerah TUHAN yg maha kuat biasa itu atas mereka. Maka nyatakanlah suka citamu dgn lebih banyak berbuat amal kebajikan jeoada sesamamu manusia. Yg punya harta melimpah,sisihkanlah 10% nya utk membayar milik TUHAN seperti yg dilakukan Abraham, moyang semua bangsa2, moyang orang2 Tionghoa pula. Gong Xi Xin Nian.
