Former TODAY anchor Katie Couric joins the 3rd Hour of TODAY to talk about her new memoir, "Going There." She explains why she thinks "a lot of it is taken completely out of context to get clicks." Regarding her stint as a CBS evening news anchor after leaving TODAY, she says, “I’m not sure the country was ready for a female evening news anchor.”

Exactly right, Andrew! But the ego-centric, mascara gobbed Couric thinks she was a ground breaking feminist journalist (HA!) when she is nothing more than a hateful, nasty wash-up after the publication of the most mean-spirited and flat out cruel book out there. Couric is finished and she knows it.

Exactly right, Andrew! Oddly, I replied to your post earlier, just read it again and it has disappeared! But you probably read it so I don't have to repeat it -- other than to say --- after the mean-spirited and flat out cruel book Couric penned -- she is washed up and finished. No one wants to be around someone so brutally back stabbing and shrill... totally cringe-worthy with gobs of clumped mascara!

Clearly she's trying to b perky and fun and the interviewers aren't having any of it. They r not laughing at her fake jokes. She's a terrible person and other ppl suffered from her actions. Ppl shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. But there are bubbly ppl who r terrible ppl and have done horrible things. Her book is going to fly from those shelves. Great tactic.

I agree, it's more realistic to admit one's mistakes and errors than pretend to be perfect. The whole ruckus about Katie not supporting other female journalists and talking candidly about famous folks she met is so silly. It's called real life!

The country was very ready for a "good" female anchor. Katie was not good. Katie is much better suited for game shows, talks show formats. Ann Currie is so much better as many others were.

Katie was too full of herself and she her personal opinions, instead of going by facts which journalists used to do.

Katie is nothing special. She was the only female anchor pushing that feminist ideology crap..... Have two seats Katie.

I know she’s a nice person at heart, but at the end of the day she is the quintessential morning show creampuff - she was definitely not the right choice to succeed the great Dan Rather, imo

Why hasn’t GMA or its CBS analog had the issues that Today has had? I have to thk it’s because they had really bad leaders who they entrusted thgs to…Katie has to be painted w some of that brush clearly…can’t have things all ways!!

Barbara Waters was the first U.S. female *co-anchor* of a network evening news program, alongside Harry Reasoner on the _ABC Evening News_ . Connie Chung was the second woman to *co-anchor* a network newscast alongside Dan Rather as part of _CBS Evening News_ . Jessica Savitch was the *weekend anchor* of _NBC Nightly News_ . Carole Simpson was the *weekend anchor* of _World News Tonight_ . Diane Sawyer became the anchor of _ABC World News_ on December 21, 2009, three years after Couric became anchor and managing editor of the _CBS Evening News with Katie Couric_ on September 5, 2006.

I don't think Katie protected Matt she had a lot going on with her husband dying and raising children and a full time job.... She's a hard worker... climb a plateau that for a female isn't easy ... it wasn't her business most of us just want to go to work do our job without getting involved in other people's drama .... these weren't children they were adults who had to handle their own destiny I'm sure she would back them up but certainly not her place to interfere in Matt's business he was way to powerful to mess with at the time.... So far as our Country not being ready for a female anchor.... she is wrong... the world has never been ready for us females .... we have to make them ready What happened is Katie lost her charm she wasn't her cheerful self on the news and that charismatic part of her is what made her a star.... if she brought that to the table I'm sure she would have made it....she was way too sober and not herself and that's what was the true issue.... lesson learned never forget to be yourself 👍

Girls like me were so ready and excited for every female anchor! That’s a huge amount of the world’s population. But the workplace was perhaps not set up for women to succeed or work safely for that matter.

I think there are more women reporters for sure than there used to be, but I don’t know if there are more than men. It’s good to see an equal (or about) amount of both men and women, but more importantly intelligent and good people.

@@simplifyhandles yeah exactly. They said during the interview that she was first woman to anchor a major nightly news cast on a huge network. Well Lester Holt is the first African American to anchor a weekday nightly news cast.
