Talking to Savannah Guthrie about her upcoming memoir “Going There,” former TODAY anchor Katie Couric talks about her former co-anchor Matt Lauer, saying “it was really upsetting and disturbing” when Lauer later left the show amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. After doing some of her own investigating, she says, “I think I realized there was a side of Matt I never knew.”

"Kind and generous and considerate" (according to Katie Couric); yet, she didn't notice when he seemed to throw Ann Curry under the bus. Nobody thought it was allegedly disgusting when he was callous toward Ann Curry. These people look the other way and maintain a "friendship" with the powers-that-be until association with that person makes them look bad. Unless Katie plans on putting the money from that book toward the pain and suffering and lost wages of Ann Curry, then that book needs to be recycled.
@justintime1343
@justintime1343 2 жыл бұрын
As if Katie's responsible for Matt's treatment of Ann! Whether or not Matt was "disgustingly" "callous" toward Ann, he was ultimately fired for (allegedly) raping someone - and there's no reason to assume that Katie knew about that. If Ann wants money to assuage her personal "pain & suffering", she can write a book of her own... or perhaps you can set up a GoFundMe account and donate to her yourself.

@@justintime1343 Someone made the claim that Ann spoke out because she needed $. If I am mistaken, I stand corrected. No one has accused Ann Curry of an unkindness. In her career choice that’s sterling. Couric’s book has been described as a “ scorched earth “ memoir , so she’s attempting to settle scores. She’s admitted to unprofessional behavior with Ashley Banfield, and others. Matt Lauer was fired. Matt and Katie seem to win the race to the bottom.

Everyone commenting here needs to ask themselves if they have always reported everything they heard rumors about or anything they felt wrong about at work. The reality is that work environments just don’t function that way and that much more the case 15 years ago. I think it is also a little odd to have Guthrie asking these questions of Couric. I knew he was icky they day he put his feet on the coffee table, in loafers and no socks, on national tv. I knew then he was feeling himself a bit too much. His sense of entitlement was showing, and so was his lack of propriety. I wonder if we looked back and noted the date of that show we might find it was one of the days he assaulted someone. He reeked of icky that day, I could feel it through the tv screen.

One would think that a person who made her living expressing her thoughts (more likely her producer’s thoughts) on television would place some value on grammar and diction. If we could dispense with all the “so, ya know, like” and worst of all “right” there might be time on the airwaves to inform us with original ideas and meaningful thoughts. So, ya know, like, am I right? Right!

@@johnnydeano2288 Thank you for your comment. I have noticed it has become more prevalent. I watch a lot of book tv. It is maddening when the speaker says “um” and “uh” multiple times during a speaking engagement. I am not sure why the individual is unaware.

Katie Couric is simply one of a kind lady. For me, I Ioved her and now she's back talking with Savannah Guthrie on NBC's long-running news program, "Today" and I'm very proud she's talking about her memoir "Going There" with Savannah for the first time about Matt Lauer's firing and so on.

Why do people think “Katie knew”? I don’t believe that. I think Katie sees the best in people. She makes it clear how unsettling it was when she learned the full extent and how they are no longer friends. Anne has a no BS attitude that Lauer was afraid of and he knew she was on to his BS. That’s why he wanted her outta there. He wanted someone who veers on the side of SWEET so he can have control in the “partnership”. Anne Curry is many wonderful things - and she is also a hardass who was able to see his motivations and intentions. Some of the stuff he said on air-- interviews. I mean…if he was flagrant about that, what was he hiding beneath the surface??
