This video features a Japanese model tram/LRV layout. It is 91" x 30" (231 cm x 76 cm) and has four tram stops. Operation is by DC control. The track used for the layout is made by Kato. Unitram and Unitrack are both used for the layout. The trams are also made by Kato and use the colour scheme of the Toyama Portrams. Thanks for reply, are you using just the two standard power points i.e have you had to add more power connections I really like the idea you have had and put into such a good layout, can I get away with a power input for each track.? if so may I copy your point idea? Thanks

This layout does not use any automation. I prefer to manually start and stop the trams. Thanks for your comments.

The white semi-trailer and excavator are made Tomytec. You can buy these on eBay. Just search for Tomytec Excavator Model N Scale.

How did you get the DCC module in those tiny trams? I'm trying to figure it out.2 of my trams came with DCC but the Japanese models did not. Thanks

The Kato Portram trams in this video use DC. I used #4 points to allow some independent control and change the current direction. Works well. Saves having to use DCC. I have heard of people who have successfully added DCC to the Kato Portrams.

I see there are no catenary (overhead) wires. Are the prototypes battery or diesel powered?

Have had this problem with Kato trams, best to return them for replacement as the sagging middle does affect every one.

There is only a pair of power feeder cables (one for each line) which is what comes with the basic Unitram set. They are located in the middle of the oval at the front of the layout where all the points are. I have designed the layout so there is no need for isolation. By switching between the four points (2 x Unitrack and 2 x Unitram) it automatically isolates each line. This layout has limits and in some sections you can only run one tram at a time.
