I think a lot to do with it was with how Eddin was talking about it like "it was a result of a build up. You deserved it because eyoubare annoying". One thing is to joke about this shit but punching and than using this as a reason... Had similar situation at work years ago. Employee X choked employee Y but there were no consequences. Couple weeks later same shit situation - altercation after the party. You have to draw the line somewhere and I think punching someone is crossing this line especially when co-workers call each other's friends/buddies

They work together. Coworkers had altercation where one punched the other. There is no "public" "private" here. In regular office punched employee can easily claim he is fearful for his safety because of such situation no matter of it was at the club or not. Not to mention I bet they don't have full time contracts but they are rather hired as B2B contractors so the law is less strict about such things
