I'm embarrassed to put this clip up save for the excellent music. I was still setting up, which is obvious, but no matter, the music was great so here we go! Jack

My buddy Bobby can still make that thing talk. What a great guy to jam with. You ought to hear him play swing.

As great as any version of this tune I've ever heard! Is the tune Sally Ann Johnson that Clark Kessinger used to play back in the 30's the same tune? Kessinger was an "old time player".

My take on it is that they are pretty similar, but that "Katy Hill" is usually played a lot faster, and usually with only two parts, though there's nothing to keep you from throwing in the low part that usually goes with the tune when it's called "Sally Johnson". Those that play both will show you two tunes with a similar idea but the notes in different order, so it's like the mother penguin that can tell her baby from all the others. Most fiddlers that play it as "Sally Johnson" and play it with a lot of variations do it slower, but Clark Kessinger was one of the more amazing fiddlers.
