This song is about Finnish volunteers fighting against Turks in 1877 war between Ottoman Empire and Russia, and has nothing to do with WW2.

After the suppression of Bulgarian April Uprising in 1876 nearly 100,000 were put to death, men, women, children... A year later many came to fight for those who can not protect themselves, and to help those who need help. What is known as Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). And the Finns were among them. The Finnish Guards' Rifle Battalion, of nearly 1000.

It warms my heart to see that at least the Bulgarians still remember what we have already forgotten.

Today is the National holiday of Bulgaria - liberation day. We celebrate 140 years of freedom. We would not have it without the many brave men who fought for our freedom. I have much respect and gratitude to the Finnish fighters and Finland as a country! Thank you from Pleven, Bulgaria! Such a powerful song!

My Bulgarian colleagues were amazed that this is a Finnish march. For those young men it was a "patriotic Bulgarian song".

Respect from Bulgaria, finns are heroes, we wish you the best brothers, we know about the finnish soldiers in bulgaria, we know about the winter war, we know about Simo Haiuha, very big land, about 6 million population, the happiest people in europe, the true deffenders of you own land, you are good people, thats what I think about you finns, keep your soul, keep your nation, keep your identity, keep your traditions, they have to be finnish, this is the nature and the first low on the earth, be patriots, be yourself and never give that up! Dont let different ideologies to control you life, you can make it better from yourself, don't be like us in Bulgaria right now, We the bulgarians are not togheter, we are punished for having some disordered principles of life, we are not that bulgarians who have fought shoulder to shoulder with you in 1878y. We lost our souls, we are NOT patriots, we are trying to keep our traditions and history clear but its hard, the apocalypse is on rise adove us, we are selfish, the corruption is in very high levels everywhere, we cannot breath anymore but dont let that happen to your sweet north!!!!

The culture of military marches is absolutely fascinating and creates a fantastic mythology of things to study. This is one of my favorite military marches.
