In this video we tear down the rear caliper on John's GT750 and show you how to replace the piston seal, brake pads, and brake fluid. The front calipers are exactly the same, so this should cover everything.

Clean and regrease the caliper sliders 👍 Looks like a new flexi wouldn't go amiss too 😁

The whole system needs a refurb now I reckon. I’ve barely ridden the thing this year, so it needs a proper going over. Hoping to get the old thing back in to touring mode next year 🤞

Excellent video. I like that vacuum pump , I havent seen brakes bled with one of those before.

That pump comes in handy all the time for all sorts of vehicle jobs. One of the best tools in the garage 👍

Could have used this video last week. Just renewed all seals and pistons during my rebuild and could not get dust seal in properly. Took me hours to fit. Had to press in with piston fully in place eventually. It did work though. Great videos as always. Hopefully doing forks soon after watching your last video on that. Thanks.

@@MechitBetter Still lots to do. Have refitted back end after total strip ,repaint, etc. New brake rotors, refurbished calipers , pads, braided pipes. Bleeding front brakes a total nightmare - who would have thought! Just about to fill rear brakes, hopefully easier than front. Only the frame, engine and electrics to go!!! About to try vinyl wrapping foot peg supports - should be interesting. Cheers.

Sounds like a good project. How did you get on with the rear brake? Easier than the front hopefully!

Need to repaint / vinyl wrap the bracket before I fit new master cylinder and braided hose. Have spent ages removing paint from all calipers and bracket, also front forks. Didn't like black forks with red bike. So still a lot to do before I attempt rear brakes. Will be trying suck method as you did, you made it look easy! I have scaned in full parts lists and official manual to help me - any interest to you?

Man... it sounds like you’re going the whole hog with that. A proper rebuild. I’d love to see it when it’s finished. Yeah the vacuum pump does seem to make life a lot easier with loads of jobs, especially brake bleeding. Thanks for the offer. I have the Haynes manual. Is that the one you have? Are you on Facebook? Do you not need copper grease or loctite on the caliper bolts??

No I don’t think so. The manual makes no mention of it either. I suppose as long as the bolts are correctly torqued then that’s all that’s necessary to hold them on. I suppose copper greasing them wouldn’t hurt to stop them sticking in, but I’ve never had any bother getting them off 🤔

I’m not sure what it’s off as it was on the bike when I bought it. Measure up the square one, find something the same width and you’re probably good to go 👍

Thanks again Phil. No we don't, and we have absolutely no formal training whatsoever! Can't you tell?! haha. We've both been tinkering for a number of years. We'd hate to think people blindly did things the way we show them. We're just hoping to pass on a little acquired knowledge and give people the confidence to maybe have a go themselves.
