I've written to IMS, Clarke, Acerbis, Aqualine, and CamelTank. The responses range from silence to "no" to "we'll think about it." I won't keep my KLX300 unless a 3.2 gallon or bigger option becomes available in a few months.

Isn't the stock tank plus a rotopak barically 3.5 gal though. And then you don't have the weight when you don't need it

They check a lot of boxes. I’m very happy with mine after getting rid of the stock mirrors, taking about 2.5” off of the levers and losing the factory headlight assembly. Fuel range still annoys me though bit not enough to spend $400 to get 0.7 gallon more.

Back when I had my 09 klx250s, I hit a rock on the stock skid plate which bent and cracked the engine cover on the trail. Replaced the cover and bought a proper skid plate. It is a must.

I get the marketing in the video since RMATV is about the only people selling a lot for this bike. I'd love to see an upgraded brake pedal for this as well as some suspension options available through RM. Unfortunately the Kawi doesn't have quite the aftermarket the Honda has. Someone desperately needs to come up with a fuel tank that is at least 3.5 gallons for this bike. These are very reliable and sound bikes that I'm sure will introduce alot of people to DS riding. I'm sneaking up on 10k mi and plan to put many more on it!

Congrats! That's awesome. These are great little bikes. I was satisfied with the fuel range on the IMS tank, but if you were following any bigger bikes then you'd for sure need a RotoPax or larger aftermarket tank to keep up. - Wes

I am looking into this bike as my first bike till I can turn an SV650 into a Scrambler in a couple of years, God willing. This bike was recommended by YT commenter on a video because I'm looking for a lighter bike. I have always loved Dual-Sports, and since a lot of DS are heavy, or top heavy and hard to lift, this one is bottom heavy and easier to lift. It would be nice if Kawi put a 450/500 CC with higher HP in this one, so it would be easy to pass other vehicles to get to safety. The KLX build is better than older DS that haven't changed for decades, so a bigger CC would be a nice addition to it. Also, ABS would be nice with an option to turn it off.

The Rally us such a good looking bike! We did a build on the 250 Rally a few years back and really put that bike through the ringer. Without some suspensions upgrades I'm not sure that it would've done any more. We've got our fingers crossed for something a little bigger with a little extra budget toward suspension from Big Red. A lot of those 250 Rally Parts transfer right over to the 300. Hopefully that build helps. Thanks for watching! - Wes kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbpnZbpeytCmhn0.html

@tieoneon1614

After having 3 of these, and spend thou$ands in aftermarket I realized most of it is waste. I bought a '24 in that good looking gray, Im actually just happy with 99% of the bike itself and really the only $ need to be spent to enjoy it is a $20 13t sprocket, and pulling the air snorkel out. +1hp and added feel of more torque from the gears, spaced apart perfectly the bike is actually quick. For $50 I put a gold MX chain on {looks great with new gold fork tubes} its 1.5lbs lighter and a lot less friction, it adds a little oomph u can feel also. The same pegs in this vid can be found on Amazon for $19, i used to spend $53 on the DRC. I actually like the oem bars, and just rolling them forward put them in a better position than my risers or after market bars....iv never bent the oem bars in a crash. And last but not least, the oem D605 tires are perfect for this bike. They work good offroad if u arent a Noob and actually adjust your psi and sag. Bring a tire guage and bicycle pump, having a very versatile tire on a versatile bike is absolute gold making the bike comfortable everywhere {except mud, and deep sand but these bikes werent intended for that terrain

Thanks for the great product reviews! I went to buy the IMS pegs on Rocky Mountain ATV but they were not on the drop down menu. Called Rocky Mountain ATV, they said they don’t have my that fit. Called IMS and they said they don’t make them for KLX 300. What equivalent did you use for your build?
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc Жыл бұрын
Hey @markhummel3433 We literally just went through this with IMS. Apparently, they had found that these pegs don't fit perfectly on the new KLX300. They had to remove the newer bikes from the model apps because of this. There isn't many options in the aftermarket for this bike so it was a bummer to lose the IMS apps... but if you ordered this set for the 2014 KLX250S you'd get the same pegs that we ran on this bike in the video. Disclaimer that they don't fit perfectly! lol. Hope this helps. 👍🏼 - Wes

@@rmatvmc Hey Wes, thanks for recommendation, I went ahead and ordered pegs for a 2014 KLX250S, I couldn’t see a problem after installing them, rode them for a day and they were an improvement from stock. I personally felt they do what they need to do and am keeping them on the bike. Appreciate you looking into this. Perfection is an aim, in rare cases attainable :)

Basically the same as you. I ended up using the stock clutch cable but it is about a half inch closer to the center of my bars, not butted up to my switch housing, due to the clutch lever hitting the tusk hand guards. Seems to be working just fine.

@@rmatvmc Did you build the bike from parts, build a restoration project with original and replacement parts, or tear it down and rebuild it with a lot of custom fabricated (built) or performance parts? Or did you just bolt some some accessories on that came out of a catalog? Guess our definitions are just different. Swapping mirrors and strapping on bags just isn't a build to me. I didn't mean to crap in your comment's section though. That wasn't my intent.

@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc Жыл бұрын
True, this isn't the poorest kind of motorcycling that you could do, but this is an inexpensive and capable bike for a relatively small budget. The goal of the build was to set it up and make it work for our type of riding. To do that we ended up adding just over 2k worth of accessories and upgrades with the big one being the IMS Fuel Tank at $400. I'd call that biking on a budget! - Wes

What are the Japanese manufacturers doing? Ask us what we want and need and build it. These bikes are crap. We want an upgrade to the DRZ/XR. A DRZ with an increase to 450cc, fuel injection, alloy frame and 6 speed tranny. Same from Honda. Give us a XR650r with electric start or a WR with the Raptor 700 motor. Not these pathetic pizza delivery bikes. Come on everyone needs to stop pretending these things are ok. They are not.
