The KX112 weighs 170 pounds, the KLX140RF is 218. Not sure if that's dry or wet weight. Currently, the KX112 retails for around $5000 and the KLX is around $3800. (U.S. dollars) If you buy from a dealership, add about another $1000 for fees. Yes, odd comparison, but I chose to compare these 2 bikes because they are about the same size and there are many trail riders who might be interested in going with the KX112 due to it's lightweight and extra suspension travel. I have a blast on mine. It's fast enough. Being a four-stroke it's super quiet. They're really two totally different animals. Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

140 would do better in the desert or trail rides. The 112 is for motocross or a woods bike. I'd like to see someone out a 112 2 stroke engine in a KLX110 frame. That shit would be a blast.

Yep, you would have to go with the 112. The 112 can do both mx and trail, but the 140 can only do trail. It would just not be competitive on a track and would be limited in terms of the jumps it can handle.

112 is def more limited on trails if ur in desert or doing hills. Even a 125 2 stroke i wouldn't send it in the desert the same way i wouldn't take the 140 to the track without serious modifications like BBR does.

Yes it can, but only if you are the right size for the bike. If you're taller than 5'7" the short wheel base of the KX is going to make it sketchy going up and down steep hills and over obstacles. Plus the suspension is pretty soft if you're over 125 pounds. You could change out the rear sprocket on the KLX to increase the torque for the technical stuff, but this of course would hurt your top speed.

It costs money to convert a dirtike into a supermoto (wheels, sprocket, and electric component) however supermotos are cool. I would go with the KX85 large wheels. It's fun on the road but it won't go super fast.

They are 2 different bikes for 2 different purposes. The point of the video is to help those riders like me who may be interested in 1 bike that serves both purposes. Basically, if you will just be trail riding and not doing big jumps, go with the KLX. If you have ANY desire to hit big jumps, than you really need to go with the KX...even if motocross isn't your thing.

The KLX140RF (same as KLX140G) is 21" front, 18" rear. The KLX140RL (previously known as the KLX140L) is 19" front, 16" rear. The KLX140R (previously known as the KLX140) is 17" front, 14" rear. For some unknown reason, Kawasaki changed the name of these 3 bikes in 2021.

the 21" front model is one of the sports best kept secrets. it's the only one of it's kind. no other brand has put full size wheels on a small frame. its genius. great choice for the wife or girlfriend, kids not ready for full size, or smaller guys who need a bike for tight trails with a slower pace.

Compared to a 4 stroke trail bike, probably. Compared to a 4 stroke motocross bike, no. From least to most difficult to maintain it goes: 4 stroke trail bike, 2 stroke mx bike, 4 stroke mx bike. I've owned them all.

there needs to be clear distinction between the old school 4 stroke design like the KLX, and the modern MX 4 stroke design. old school is way easier to deal with than any 2 stroke as you will outgrow the bike before the engine wears out. where as a 2 stroke will need the top end done often. however the new MX 4 strokes need to be rebuilt nearly as often as a smaller cc 2 stroke, but with many more times the cost and also way more intensive labor skills required. all to say that modern 4 strokes are a more costly hassle than a 2 stroke unless its a 450F, which gets nearly double the life of a 250F due to lower RPM and less loading per cc size. the 250's are working really hard and just don't last long. not as long as a well maintained 250cc 2 stroke. compared to smaller 2 strokes like an 85 or 105 etc, the modern 4 strokes still last longer, but 250 and 300 cc 2-strokes, when used as trail bikes, can easily go 200 hrs between rebuilds. by comparison the cam chain on a 250F needs to be done every 100 hrs.

Not true. I learn how to ride with KX100. I had a blast. That experience made me a better rider with powerful street bikes.

more accurately stated... KLX = perfect trail bike/kids bike/girls bike. KX = best bike for aggressive male rider in target age group that's not yet ready for a 125.
