Video is from the International Drag Bike Association (IDBA) World Finals in 1979. Features Sid Pogue, Terry Vance, Vickie Farr and more.
This is one segment from the restored video player “ Kawasaki Good Times Theatre”. The Good Times Theatre video players were used at Kawasaki dealerships in the 1970’s for customer viewing on the showrooms.
This restored video features great Kawasaki moments from the mid to late 1970’s. Audio quality on the restored video is fair, but clearly understandable. This is a great piece of Motorcycle History. Hope you enjoy it.

What I learned from this video: All the men in the world pre 1980 spoke with exceptionally deep voices, and Kawasakis were badass(still are).

In '79 and '80 I had a kosman chassis, 1198 Kawasaki, did my own cylinder head and pistons,. No sponsorship only had a few grand in the motor, ran 9.20, 9.21 and 9.23 all at 145+. Came in third at Fremont sept 1980, only private, owner, tuner, rider builder in the top 10.

Go Vicky, beating Vance at the top of his game, and then looking so little and petite and modest. What a great film.

in 1979 Suzuki made 10 bikes, replica's of Terry Vance's GS. I won 1 of the bikes and still have it. I was a lucky 17 yr old kid! My friends did not believe me til I pulled up to the school.

Awesome video. I used to race a couole of Kawi's back in the early thru late 80's. Had a prepped KZ 600 & a Z1 Classic. Also ran a friends GPZ 750 Turbo. Was in the Army stationed in Kansas and raced at Little Apple Raceway in Manhattan, also did a good amount of street racin' back then. Used to stop in at Koup's when I was home on leave just to see what was new or grap some parts. Really miss those days. Thanks for sharing the vid.

Kawasaki has always been known for horsepower. The 1998 ZX9 was the first stock motorcycle to hit 9 seconds in the quarter mile.

tangled Line BS, it was the 98 Busa. The CBR 929 spanked the ZX9 and was only low 10's that year.

Thanks for this. All of these riders were aquaintances, as I also ran a dragbike among them in those days. I wan't at this event, but it sure is fun seeing the archaic equipment we ran back then. Jim Cooper

I love all these old Kawasaki Corporate videos that koupscycleshop has posted. They bring back so many great memories. The old film has definitely aged, the voice track is definitely interesting. Thanks for posting!

Thank you for posting this, Vicki Farr and her husband Marshal were the first wrench & Rider team I cheered for as a kid. Vicki had the fastest tree around, they're why my bike is a kawi.

Cool video, owned KZ's from 77 til now. First big street bike a '76 KZ900 and still have my '80 KZ1000 that I bought new along with a 2000 ZRX1100. A few of my friends dragged Z1's and KZ's back in the day. Kaw motors were always bulletproof, ruled the strips. Great to see this video. Hope to see the ZX14 beat those Busa's. From a long time Kaw fan, thanks much!

Things aren't like they used to be. I been riding since 1988 and my first bike was a KZ1100. My current sportbike is a 2005 Kawasaki ZX10R and that alone weighs about 405lbs with 186hp-My KZ1100 weighed about 600lbs with about 90hp. There is a big difference. So almost ANY liter sportbike can hit the 9s in a quartermile. Almost any 600cc supersport can hit 10's in the quartermile and they both exceed 160mph in top speeds. Back in the day 140mph were golden for liters like the KZ1000/KZ1100.

I was 11 when my uncle Kenny was setting all these accomplishments. I remember going to the shop where he kept his bike; Motorcycles Unlimited, and just being in awe at the size of that monster motorcycle aptly named the Orange Crush. I could barely reach from the handle bars to the foot pegs. And it's hillarious to see his ol' long hair and monsterstache, I mean moustache once again! He was then and still is one of my HEROES! Please post more if you can.
