Yeah, that's how my oil screen was oriented, too, flange side out so it comes off like a thimble. A few people who watched my video described their screen oriented the other way, with the flange inside. I double checked the dealers manual for the 95 VN800 and it verifies the way ours is oriented. Mine came like that from the factory. I wonder if Kawasaki changed that orientation for later model bikes, or maybe others had it oriented wrong. Good engineering would make it impossible to put in backwards, but evidently not here. I don't even know if it makes any difference -- possibly the seal works either way.
