Would it be fair to include the 2023 Honda CB1000R in this comparison? $12,999 MSRP in the States. It is not a super naked/crotch rocket; simply a standard with a bit more power; regrettably the Katana is not available (not offered for sale) in the States; how do you feel the comfort of the Honda compares with the Kawi? Many reviewers say the Honda is let down by the suspension.

As a person that loves modern classics and retros I cant say its the "best" retro as it depends on each individual rider. However, I think this is an absolutely beautiful machine. Kawasaki designed this perfectly in my opinion. A visual masterpiece!

My 2021 has been decatted with delkevic headers & a ECU flash transforms the throttle response completely. In stock form the fuel is cut off completely on a closed throttle which is where the snatchiness come from. A very popular mod which keeps the stock muffler.

The styling really does it for me, I think it looks the best of the bunch in the modern "retro" class styling. This trend really has brought motorcycling back around to being more appealing to potential new riders IMO. Even 600cc modern sportbikes are so fast and so capable that using them on the road seems overkill and is probably intimidating to many a new rider.

Harking back to a 50+ year old bike the Kwaka's retro credentials can't be denied. The trouble in comparison to Triumph is that it takes it's cues 30 yrs older still. I've had a couple of old trumps and I'd take the kwaka too.

it is amazing looking, defo the best looking of the bunch..... I didn't need such a big powerful bike so opted for the Z650RS which still looks great and is more suited to my riding needs - good comparison Bob! the Z650RS also has the (slightly) jerky throttle but a G2 throttle tamer sorted that for me, possibly might do for the Z900RS?

I love everything about this motorcycle. Kawasaki nailed it. I am not fussed about the snatchy throttle because any Euro 5 bike needs a reflash anyway. Also you can probably get better than 108 hp out of a literbike sized engine. You do not need more power, but that factory tune seems like an emissions compliance neutering to me.

I've got the base Z900RS in the new red colourway for 2023. Picked it up just 2 weeks ago, almost got it fully run in but the horrendous weather here in the UK has really dampened the running in! I adore the bike already, so the SE must be something quite special. I just didn't like the yellow paintwork or gold wheels - but based on the way people rave about the SE's ride, I think an Ohlins rear shock is needed!

However, I would actually want the cafe version with the small screen and different seat....but I'd need to repaint it in the darker green colour scheme. The XSR is playing its own game style wise, but that seat is rock hard to sit on and would eventually be a barrier for me to happy ownership

Great review! I bought this exact bike. I'm just waiting for the snow to melt here in Canada so that I can get more videos of it up on my channel. I think I agree with everything you said. Looks great. Great engine, love that it has great suspension and brakes, but I have questions about the tire choice, and it's not the cheapest bike. Would love to hear your thoughts on what tires you'd put on this. The logical ones would be the Michelin Road 6 tires as they probably fit the bike's character, but I'd like something with a cooler looking tread pattern and similar riding results. Something more exotic in the tire department as you said! Thanks for the video!

After I used up the oem Dunlops I went to Road 5's, and then Road 6's. The Road 6's are my recommendation unless you're a *really* aggressive dry only rider. I would never use visual tread pattern as a criteria for picking MC tires, just me. They are perfect for the bikes character. I've ridden in the mountains with sporty Triumphs and other actual sport bikes (yes, yes, it's always all rider, the iron is nothing) and never felt under tired. Some times a bit underpowered on some longer straits 😀

@@archibaldcunningham2569 Yeah, I don't WANT to pick a tire based on tread pattern, but let's be honest, the SE version of this bike steps up the style AND the performance, so it would be great if there were a true competitor to the road 6 that had some more style. The road 6 is just so excellent... But looks utilitarian.

Love the SE. I got mine after originally purchasing the RS Cafe. I told the dealer I would love an SE and please call if they ever received one. He told me good luck. As luck would have it, they got one 6 months later and I cannot believe they called me. Such a beauty to look at. I have had so many bikes over the years and I have enjoyed them all, some more than others. This bike is at the top! I have loved my Honda’s and Harleys but this SE gets a lot of attention. Pictures do not come close to doing it justice. Snatchy throttle is what I prefer to refer to as responsive. It is not a problem for me. If you can get your hands on an SE I highly recommend it.

I had a Z900 back in the 1970s. Absolutely loved it. This Yellowball, however, is the best looking model ever imo.

The yellow ball z900rs is by far the best retro style bike out there. Absolutely beautiful bike. And it even Looks better in person.

So they still haven’t really got rid of the snatchy throttle, but as you say a reflash or Booster Plug will fix it. I’ve still got my Jaffa that I bought in 2018, best colour if you ask me, and Bridgestone S22 are a perfect match for the bike.

If its anything like my 1975 Z 900m it will be quite entertaining! Personally, I'd lay some gold flake/paint on that gas tank and call it a day!

All I can say is it is undeniably beautiful. Love naked bikes, they show those pipes so well too.

I test rode one and the front end felt a bit “dead”, also they made a big shout about moving the torque to low in the rev range, it didn’t feel very torquey to me, I was really disappointed as I love the looks.
