I think the item description I was reading from was actually for the "Special Al" (or, Aluminum) listing of the pen, but mine seems aluminum too, and I'm not really sure what's different between the two listings, or if it might actually be the same pen.
The pen seems well-built and feels good in the hand, although even with that in mind, it's personally a bit hard for me to justify the $50 price point. Maybe it's for dip-pen and calligraphy enthusiasts, it definitely does seem like a nice holder which can be used with a wide variety of nibs. The lid it comes with doesn't seem to stay on very well, or at all, I'm not sure how it could possibly be put in a pocket.
The steel brush by speedball was a refreshing novelty. I like how weird it looks, and how satisfying it is to lay down that much ink. I personally am no calligraphic sign-maker, so that part of it is lost on me, but I still had fun with it.

Hi Peter... I am NOT excusing the behavior of the first nib, because I don't have time for supplies that don't make me happy, but the Waterman ink IS formulated for fountain pens. It is beautifully forward-flowing and designed not to clog pens, and it does those jobs well. That first nib you used is a pretty cut and dry (literally, hmmph) standard, small reservoir dip pen nib... I would stake my favorite paintbrush that it would behave noticeably better if paired with a specific dip-pen friendly ink, which would be more viscous thanks to added lubricants.

I use this type of pennib! It's very much requires you to have a soft hand when drawing and writing with it, it doesn't hold that much ink at all but when you mostly use it for super light and thin strokes it does it's job better than some other dipping nibs that can't do it's thin lines at all or drips blobs onto the paper

There's like a million black and blue inks as well as other nice unique shades, all a little bit different, some are even thicker or thinner and better suited for certain pens, I wish one of the companies who sells sample inks would ship you an assortment to try out in videos. Would showcase the colors to us and would give your videos variety, everyone wins!

you know peter ive been following this channel for years now, and when you first started you always seemed very shy with the camera, very awkwards around it, stuttering and long pauses constantly, but in the last year or more now I feel you've changed a lot, your humour has really shown and the way to talk to the camera and us is just so fun and you're out there, that opening being a prime example lol I really loved it. There is a possibility that the square nib is for lining paper, most likely to line paper for sheet music. I’ve a couple antique ones that are similar and this is the purpose mine state on their lil’ instruction sheets!

Maybe I'm wrong but that nib doesn't look like the best quality, but I could be mistaken... anyways sometimes if a nib is scratching the nib is misadjusted because the prongs are bent slightly. You can sometimes tweak them ever so slightly, really just push one up and one down a mm or less, it can help sometimes. This nib however looks stamped and very flexible and sharp, likely not going to get much better.

The flat nib at 3:58 I bought for $1.40ish at a art store here in Colorado called Meinigers (about 2 years ago, so if you're in Denver or Colorado Springs they may still have them by the pen section). Good fat lines with that boy!

Try using india inks with a dip pen rather than fountain pen inks. Should last a little longer between dips. Also, I love the doodles and the pen reviews, but my hot dog making skills are getting a little rusty. When do I press up?

Yeah fountain pen ink doesn't work very well for dip pens, it's too thin because it's designed not to clog. Indian ink works so much better. Drawing ink is not the same as Indian ink btw lol- I found that out after I bought it. It's too thin also

The big flat nib is a steel brush used for making bold lines /letters when lettering old signs. My guess circa 1930s styles of letters. I bought my Speedball Steel Brush in 1978ish. Glad I kept it, dont see them often. Speedball had several styles of nibs, used for various styles of letters or drawing. The captivating nib demonstrated first in video looks like a drawing nib. Speedball nibs have a letter and number, the letter indicates style the number indicates the size.
