Kayak Fish Finder Install Old Town Sportsman

In this video I do a comprehensive walk-through on how to install a fish finder on a kayak. I'm installing a Garmin 93sv UHD on my Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL, but the information applies to most electronic installs, and the principles are the same if you were installing on a different kayak or boat.

I wonder if you could use hot glue in the top of the hole to keep the pipe from moving

I think you could, you just wouldn't want to make it 'water tight.' Any water that may get in that hole needs to be able to drain. So far I've had no issues with the pipe moving around, works quite well.

I'm thinking of buying my first fish finder, would you recommend the one you installed or do you have any other recommendations? Thanks for the content keep it up! *fish finder is currently on sale also

I would recommend the Garmin 93sv. Both Lowrance and Humminbird make great graphs too (I have two Humminbird Helix units on my boat). When this unit is on sale (typically around $600 on sale), it's a great value. The 73sv is a great unit too, just in a 7" screen, so if space is an issue, that would be a good one to look at. 7" would probably work better on my kayak, but I had this 93sv already. One key benefit to these Garmin units is built-in lake maps. Other brands you have to buy mapping card, that are a little costly. Also, if you're considering forward facing sonar (aka Livescope), either of these Garmin units are compatible with Garmin Livescope, which is arguably the best in the industry right now. Are you right handed? The reason I ask is I have my graph on right side but thinking maybe it would be better on the right. I hold my rod with my right hand and crank with my left.

I'm left handed, primarily cast left handed, but use right handed reels. I put my graph on the right side, since I mostly cast from the left side.

Why not use the spot up front. I have the same kayak and I’m here getting ideas. Just didn’t know if there was something wrong with using that other spot.

Are you talking about mounting the graph up front? For me, the graph placement being close since it's a touchscreen is why I put it there. I'm constantly making adjustments and switching views. I chose the right side, because most of my casting is done with my left hand. That way the graph would be less likely to be in the way of casts and landing fish. Hope that helps.

@@OutdoorQuests no the transducer mount on the bottom of the boat. That little black plate that sits up underneath it I was told was a transducer bracket.

I felt like the transducer is better protected this way, because it doesn't sit as low. I got the idea from Navarre Kayak Fishing.
