Field Trips with Robert Field

Field Trips with Robert Field

Күн бұрын

In this episode of Field Trips: West Coast, I'm spending another day with John Kenny, this time in a place called Leffingwell. On our way down the mountains to the water, I notice something weird about the ocean: I can't see it. An eerie fog has blanketed the Pacific as far as the eye can see, and we'll be venturing out into great white country with about 15 feet of visibility. With lingcod scratched off my list in Morro Bay, I'll be looking for the beautiful and tasty red vermillion rockfish.
Watch until the end for a preview at episode 7!
Comment below and tell me if you've fished in Cali or ask me any questions you guys have! I reply to every one.

I rarely subscribe to channels, but man this is great! Being a kayak fisherman from California all I have to say is kudos to you. I mainly fish San Diego, but most of the spots you are visiting are on my to do list in the next year or so. I look forward to the rest of your episodes on the west coast!

Another great trip installment. Was able to launch and fish from my jon boat a couple of times in thick, thick fog in the early morning, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to doing it with the kayak. I'll be on a 400+ fresh water lake, so no chance of getting lost........or being bumped by a great white...thankgoodness. :)

The fog is a bit eerie in the kayak, especially in great white country. Freshwater lake sounds way less stressful.

Awesome. So many cool fish in that salt. I'm land locked in Alberta. Can't wait to get my yak to the coast of British Columbia. Love the red vibe you got going on. Still not as freely as that sheephead.Peace and be safe out there. 🖒✌

Thanks for the kind words brother! Comment on one of my Fishbrain posts that we talked on here and I'll follow ya back. My favorite fish is a tough one man. It was such an amazing trip all the way around. The most CHALLENGING fish was the 2nd smallest species I targeted (episode 8) and the white sturgeon was the biggest fish I've ever hooked. The yellowtail was a BLAST and might have been the single most fun fight. Hard to say though man. My favorite thing is catching new species, so this whole trip was just incredible.

+TriForceGaming vibe makes solid yaks at that price I hear. The Ascend FS12T is decent around $550 too and available at Bass Pro.

How do you like the pedal drive on the Old Town? Is it similar in feel to the Perception pedal drive? How would you compare it to the mirage drive as far as preference?
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 7 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Johnson yes it's similar, but I think Old Town's drive is a little more solid than the Perception. But the boat is also a lot more expensive; so you get what you pay for. As for prop drive vs fin drive, really comes down to personal preference on if you like the bicycle or stair stepper motion better. I think the fin style drive might be a tad more efficient, but going reverse with the prop style is easier. It's all a trade off and I'd recommend demoing both before ya buy either... see what you like better

I think John Kenny must have told you about our friend Ryan who was hit by a great white. Ryan didn't believe in Shark Sheild because they attack from under. I explained to Ryan they circle back and that is when shark shield works. I was the first in the area to buy a shark shield. You should check out the second year video's of our slam down John went into the rocks with his new yak. Here is Ryan on shark Week. 24 footer great white. What this doesn't tell you is there was a first-person out there by himself no radio in a Pro Angler that was hit first. Ryan and five others started the day out. When they rescued the first guy two yakkers went back. Think the shark would strike twice. watch the video. That was off Vandenberg in October we call October Sharktober as most attacks seem to be in that month. You should come for the tournament Slam Down. There are some videos of how rough Leffingwell can get on youtube. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8uipdei1qrRcpc.html. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ocp4l6ed1qzIgqc.html

I know Ryan and was supposed to fish with him the episode before this, but he had a baby right before and had to cancel. That was almost exactly a year after he got breached. I still don’t believe in shark shield. That’s like walking around in a lightning shield just in case I get struck. Actually, statistically, that would be more practical. If a white shark breaches me, I’ll either have a good story to tell or I’ll go out in the most epic way I can think of.

I fish a lot in destin Florida, out of a kayak, what would you recommend to use during cobia season
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 7 жыл бұрын
+Camden Meile pitching live baits can work, but really if a cobia is hungry and sees your lure, it'll hit it. The trick is finding and fighting them. I've hooked multiple but never landed one.

What do u think about the feel free lure 10 compared to a hobbie
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 7 жыл бұрын
+Isaac Story totally different boats man, depends if you want to spend the money for pedals. I'd get the longer Lure if you go with that yak. It's not the fastest, but slightly longer means slightly faster. FeelFree makes solid boats.
