Kayaking to The Mokulua Islands in Oahu, Hawaii

Kayaking to the Mokulua Islands (AKA "The Mokes") is a top thing to do in Oahu, Hawaii! This 4 mile Kayak adventure starts at Kailua Beach and leads you to Moku Nui. There are many things to do on Moku Nui such as Queens Bath, Sharks Cove, cliff jumping, bird watching, snorkeling, and more!
We rented our Kayaks from Kailua Beach Adventures for 1/2 a day. It was definitely one of our most memorable experiences and it was a true adventure!

Those islands are fun ! But those rocks are wicked! I was just there visiting family in Kailua 🤘

i’m staying next month , but a bit nervous to kayak in open sea , have never kayaked before , do you recommend this to a first timer

How exciting! I do think you can do kayak this as a first timer, but it is definitely a bit long and the waves make the water/kayak more unstable. If you take your time and have some level of fitness, then I think there shouldn't be any big problems. The people at the kayak rental can give you some more tips/advice if you are concerned as well.

While using Google Earth, I screen recorded clicking on the spot of the map I wanted to see.

This look like a fun activity. Do you need to book the kayaks in advance? On their website it says you need a permit to go to the Mokes, is this an easy process? Can we do this easily from Kailua Beach by ourselves rather than a tour? How long approximately does it take to get there?

You don’t need to book in advance, and you can buy the permit at the kayak rental. It’s an easy process that the employees will walk you through. You can easily do it from Kailua Beach without a tour, the staff will explain exactly what you need to do. I don’t remember exactly how long it took to kayak from Kailua to Moku Nui, but I think it was about an hour and a half or so
