I think, you were on the right path! The needlefelt technique would be great, if you don't poke it in completely in lines but in "dots"... so... it's hard to explain xD just take a tiny amount of wool and just poke it in at one side just so it is attached to the tiger. The other side shall be loose and should look just right in the direction of the blue fur like it grew out of the tiger. To create stripes, just go on with those in a row. I would love to see you try it like this again! Don't give that poor pretty boy up :) ah, and maybe before you stich the fur on you could attach a felt underground for the wool to stay on when you poke it in later.

Came down here to say this. As someone who's needle felted, this is how you'd make a furry kind of texture. To try and describe it, it's kind of like you're making a doll wig with wefts. OR you can treat it like a doll re-routing. That would also work. I hope this helps!

Remember: Just because it looks like hot trash to you, someone else will LOVE it. Both greenie and the needle felt were great takes. I don't think the lumpiness of the needle felt is really a detriment as it is textural. I wonder if you could not do some needle felting in blues and purples and have it coming off the figure, almost wispy like a nebula? That would be cool. Add some gems for "stars" and airbrush a lil purple. There ya go.
@jekkiefan

As someone else mentioned if you felted the lines in dots so that one end is felted and the other has the fibres flowing with the fur that would blend it better. But back to how you were doing it, I know it wasn't what you were intending, but it did still look cool with the way you felted it, it looked like cracks with lava beneath. Maybe an idea for an earth type creature, brown or green fur with orange "lava" line felting running through. It is hard when what you make doesn't end up looking how you intended it, but happy little accidents happen too :)

Kaypea is a true artist! Not only gifted and talented, but she also shares her „secrets“ with us (because she know herself what she’s capable of and has not to fear any concurrence), and now shows that not all projects turn out as desired. That‘s also a very important part of an artists life! Most people think when they watch art vids on YT „Uuuuh, an artist finishes a project in like two hours, and it turns out so good!“ , but nobody shows how much time and effort and even nerves it costs until an artwork is completed. I mean, I’m an artist myself, and sometimes an ide looks good in my mind, but on paper... nah! But some friends of mine get motivated in doing art themselves when they see my stuff. And when they fail in their project or when a drawing doesn’t turn out like they wanted they are frustrated. They think I only snip my hands and my art creates itself. I also have artblocks or days where an artwork risks to turn out wrong. That’s totally natural! Kaypea, and I‘m thankful for this video and everything you share with us. That makes you so likeable 🤗

I love that you chose to show us what you feel is a failure. Yes, he didn’t turn out the way you envisioned but I learned some time ago that art has a mind of its own. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Maybe airbrush on black stripes and see how you like him. You could also try adding the yellow and orange on top of the black and maybe you wouldn’t get the green. Also, the stitch you are using to sew up the fur is called a ladder stitch. Because the stitches look like the rungs of a ladder before you pull them closed. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, sloop!

I don’t know how well this would work or not, but my first thought was to tie some gold/shiny yarn around a thread and create some wefts on that string that you could sew directly into the doll. Sounds really tedious, but it’s really the only thing I can think of at the moment that could work for your current concept(I’m sure there’s plenty of other ways to get the gold stripes though). I didn't hate his green stripes to be honest. However the felting was a cool idea and if you don't really like the stark orange, maybe golden yellow would work better or shimmery wool? You could also try bleaching the stripes on him maybe?

Sloop! May I suggest air brushing white tiger stripes, and using chunky resin glitters in the the colors you were going for before and gluing them in with a tiny speck of all purpose glue? You could scatter the glitter and set it in a way that adds the pop of color you are looking for, and the stripes can be bands of stars.

Hi Kaype! I stumbled upon this video after binge-watching the others (and yes, Dollightful brought me here hehe). I have a sollution for the orange stripes: use bleach or watered down bleach. You were talking about the white to yellow to orange and I was thinking about color theory and how every time it would problably become green.... but textile and bleach work out differently! If you ever used bleach to clean a toilet and accidentally wore black, you will notice that every spec of bleach that got on your clothes, turned them into a bright or even light orange. I also did this to some blue, pink and a red towel. They all turned.... orange! For safety reasons and health reasons, I think you could try to water down some bleach, test on a spare blue fur piece and check the texture. I'm pretty sure it would behave like watered down paint and you could easily paint the stripes in it. And when you return with the yellow on top of the orange, it's not gonna turn blue bc the pigments wont be 100% there! Anyways, I loved discovering your channel and I know I'm late to the party, but I just love tigers! I even sent your Houndoon video to my bf and he said it was an awesome doll!

I love your vids!! We all make mistakes or things just don't go quite right & it's good to show those too. I can't begin to count how many times I've torn out mistakes, or just start over, hours of work just gone BUT if they don't look good to my eye, no one sees them. Everyone starts somewhere & it's a rare time it will come out exactly as a video/someone else does it. Very rare. It's all in the learning and some of those mistakes? They might be a perfect application for something else!

I think the needle felting would be awesome or you can turn him into a galaxy and use pinks/purples/whites. If you kept the green stripes he could have been a nature spirit with some flowers. There’s a lot of possibilities with this guy! Don’t give up! 🥰

I think you should use the base as a panther and make him into a galaxy panther! the colour lends a little bit more to that and as you said, the face sculpt is more 'generic big cat' than specifically tiger. I think he's looking so good even through the struggles you had so it'd be a shame to stop now! This just popped up in my recs with the air dragon and I decided to watch it again because why not? I hope you've had enough time to be ready to pick this guy up again. Maybe next time a big project is taking up too much time you can finish this guy off as a quickie? I mean he's already like 75% done and would probably leave you feeling pretty triumphant!

For the effect you want I think you'll need to put in a yellow/golden fur but using a doll rerooting technique (part the blue fur and insert small tufts of golden one at a time). Maybe look into fur/eyelash yarn as well.

Oh please don't say you hate him or that he's ugly, he's stunning, you can always unpick the needle felting, part the fur where you want the stripe and place the fibre in the same direction of the fur in short tufts and felt in the middle, then fold the fibre over anchor along the edge the brush in with the fur, hope that makes sense. I would love to foster him and try to create your image, but it's a long way to the north of Britain lol. Need to say, not much makes me smile since I've been off ill from work (nearly 2 years) but your my go to, one day I will finish my huge pile of unfinished items, only that way because I'm so scared of people seeing all the mistakes or bad bits that I know are there, so easier to put them away lol. Your stunning art and happy demeanour make my eyes holes leak, especially when you say we matter and we can do things. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough to send you a pic of some of my unfinished things, ... finished .... maybe .. one day 😬. 💕 Never stop creating, you are such an inspiration and so loved. 💕🤗 Thank you.

I bought some grey fur trim that is in the yarn section. Its like really thin strips of faux fur. Get some of that in white and dye it the color you want. spread the blue fur (like parting hair) and tuck the trim in the gap and glue or sew it into place (or both?) try this method on the old body or a test scrap of your fur.

I just found this channel last night. I love this video, and I’m feeling encouraged to follow through with projects I’ve been wanting to attempt! I used to be great with clay but that was over ten years ago now. I love art dolls and dolls in general, plus I have vastly improved with sewing, have been learning crochet, and recently found my round looms for knitting. I want to create in this manner, I even have an idea to make species and such to help educate the public about proper animal husbandry. When I worked in the pet world, I learned too many people, pet owners and those who people commonly go to with the expectation to be educated for the pets, have no idea what they’re talking about and that’s sad. I miss working with clay in particular and I have some amazing clay I’ve toyed with a few months ago… I just find I lack confidence to put time and effort into any of my ideas that aren’t working (which is the one thing I know I have talent and skill with, tho I hate that lol)

My art teacher has a student in one of her classes and the person gave a couple drawings to the teacher. Lots of kids saw those and loved them and now that person has a fan club (I’m part of it) so they are creating a step by step guide to their style for us to try to replicate.

I feel like the orange needle felting would have worked if you airbrushed some orange around it along with some yellow? I think part of the reason you didn’t like it is because the orange didn’t mix well with the more cyanish area so airbrushing it yellow there would have made it fade nicer. Also, airbrushing orange around the sides would have brought out what you had felt poked much more as well.

Sharing your failures only shows you are human. I like the raw type videos where mistakes are still put in videos instead of edited out cuz we all need to know that we're not alone. I love the concept and hope you can make the tiger work out one day cuz I'm sure it will be beautiful. Like bob ross says happy accidents.

Ngl the dark blue with black and the needle -felt orange gave me a very volcanic core vibe, like a deathwing type of feel haha. The recessed bits of orange just gave it that pop. Sometimes art pieces want to take their own direction, embrace that bois personality and make him what he wants to be lmao

You could try to shave in the stripes, and then make yarn wefts like you would for a doll wig, and glue or stitch or needle felt them in the indents? And then shave it again to make the fur even

I was looking at your other starry themed dolls, and seeing the tiny stars on their backs gave me an idea. Maybe it'd be possible to glue tiny stars into the shape of stripes if that makes sense? Little yellow and orange stars glued into a line to make a stripe? Im not sure if that'd look good or not but it popped into my head. Great video! Tiger boy definitely deserves a redo 👏

I think Otaku Tante is on to something with their tufts to make the stripes idea. Plus, with Halloween around the corner, you might be able to find actual glow yarn or similar to work in. Mostly I wanted to say this "Everyone messes up" vid was very timely for me. Your more free form way of furring has inspired me to try my hand at making some art dolls again, I have patterning and sowing. However, my "simple" warmup idea has been stalked for about 2 months while I try to get the head right and 4 failed attempts I was really close to just giving up on the concept. For some reason I thought it would be easy to combine a prehistoric hyena with a hawk/vulture and then decided to make it eyeless with 4 articulated mandibles for a lower jaw.

If you were still willing to try i have another idea, insted of felting all the wool into your piece lay the wool on the doll and poke your needle only across the middle. Now when you brush over it it now has some orange/yellow fur! Trim it and tada ittiy bitty bit of orange/yellow fur. Keep repeating until you have a good sized stripe. also ❤ ur videos!

The three things I can think of that could work. Needle felting but only felt in one end of the fiber so the other end of the fiber stays out like fur. Or….. do like you would on a re-root doll hair. The easiest way would be to put the fur fabric on inside out and mark where your lines would go and then take the fabric off the tiger use brushed out yarn or a different fiber knot one end and pull through fabric leaving long strands on the right side of the fabrics and knots inside on the wrong side. Do this with many strands and follow the lines. When done put back on and trim down. There are different ways that you could use to secure the fiber on the inside if knots don’t work. Or appliqué the stripes into the blue fur. But, I think that you will figure a way to complete your vision don’t give up because every time you think you’ve failed you haven’t. YOU’VE LEARNED SOMETHING FROM IT!
