All three (Misa, Akane and Kanami) are absolute high caliber musicians - they all started music at young age. Kanami (guitar, piano and is Miku's guitar teacher) is a genius - composes all their music - but is a natural airhead, a sweet girl. Akane (drums, trombone and piano) eats a lot, like, really a lot, a happy cheerful person. Misa (bass, piano and alto horn) likes her bourbon, doesn't talk much in public, mysterious. Just subscribed. Love your reactions, ladies! No, Saiki doesn't play an instrument, or at least not publicly anyway. It's Miku (the cute one with pigtails and soft voice) who sings and plays guitar. When Miku founded the band, her initial idea was she would be the lead singer. But she quickly realized her voice wasn't powerful enough for hard rock. Story goes it was her idea to hold auditions for a strong vocalist and found Saiki. She then hit Kanami up for guitar lessons, practiced hard, and has become a very solid rhythm guitarist (I've played guitar for 35 years. Trust me, she's no slouch on the strings!). So she now pulls double duty backing up Saiki on vocal (creating that hard\soft contrast you ladies noticed in "Daydreaming") and backing up Kanami on guitar. Kanami is highly trained from an early age on multiple instruments. She's the one who plays piano when the song calls for it. If you want to hear Miku's singing more prominently, you could check out "Freedom" where Miku trades vocal lines with Saiki. There's also "Rock in Me" where Miku gives Saiki a break and takes over the lead microphone. "Freedom" is a fun song. "Rock in Me" is too, but you definitely miss Saiki's vocal power and Miku's contribution as rhythm guitarist on that one. Both videos are live performances. superb feedback! their classically trained technical skills are undeniable, but i wouldn't be this enamored with them if not for their great gift for melody - axewoman kanami in particular who now writes the music. it takes preternatural talent to consistently craft tuneful songs.

Since it wasn't mentioned, the group founder, backup vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato writes most of the lyrics, including this one. Saiki, the lead singer does not play an instrument. The piano parts are played by Kanami, the lead guitarist. She composes most of the music, with contributions from the other members.

Hi from the UK. These ladies rock. Only discovered them 10 months ago. Saw them live in London last November and became an instant fan. Reacting to the interviews is an interesting idea. It always amazes me that they are so reserved off stage (apart from Miku who's nuts) then on stage they turn on the charisma and explode. Especially Saiki who just prowls round the stage like a jaguar. Japan should be so proud of them. 😁🎌💗

Lovely reaction and I love your love for the Band concept. It’s unique, it’s Japan and it fits perfect with their sound - the gap is the concept and welcome to the deep rabbit hole called Band-Maid. I‘m a middle aged metalhead and have seen almost all big bands live - Band-Maid can easily catch up with all of them. Saw Band-Maid 8 times live now since 2015. it’s incredible how much they evolved within a short time. Definitely the best Rockband out there in my opinion. Excellent reaction. The contrast between how they dress and how they sound they define it as "the gap" and it was something they initially actively sought. Their clothes are designed by the girls themselves and this design changes every year. You can practically find out what year they are playing for the clothes they wear in the "services". At the beginning the uniform was the same for all, but with the passage of time each one has been changing it to their own style. They currently refer to their clothes as their "battle armor." I have tried to figure out why I am so addicted to this band and can't quite put my finger on it. The incredible musicianship, the great songs, the almost otherworldly charisma, especially Miku, the most creative drummer in the world are all the obvious reasons. There is something else though because I have trouble now listening to other bands and I constantly compare them to Band-Maid and I am invariably somewhat disappointed in the other bands. That has never happened before. I don't even like Japanese rock or metal and never have but I am convinced this Japanese band is the best in the world. I may be damaged for life.

I only found them less than a year ago. Within minutes I was searching for a live show. OMFG I found one near my home. Cost me 200 bucks to get in from online ticket scalper. Best 200 dollars ever spent on music. This band is the first band I’ve spent music on in decades! I don’t know how you KZfaq reactors keep from binging on Band Maid after hearing the first song. I still binge listen to every album every chance I get a year later. There are not enough hours in the day to listen to all the band maid I want to.

You should also check out their alter-egos Band-Maiko. The Band-Maiko song "Gion-cho" has English subtitles. And before Rick Wagner says it, watch "Secret My Lips" before "Secret Maiko Lips". They have one all English song, "Don't Let Me Down" and it has explicit lyrics. "Start Over" was designed to be a good karaoke song. "Glory" was written for the end credits of the Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS anime, and "Bubble" was written for the opening credits off the live-action drama "Perfect Crime". The "Before Yesterday" MV has many parts filmed in Seattle where they gave their 1st overseas performance at Sakura Con. It's fun to watch if you know Seattle as well as being a good song. A very versatile band.

So happy to see someone favorably reacting to Band Maid who's not an over-40 white dude! There are enough of us in this fanbase already! LOL The other commenters aren't wrong when they say that Band-Maid really doesn't have a bad song. If you like solid hard rock played to perfection, that's what they bring every time. Probably the only music of theirs that I don't listen to very much is their first mini-album (Maid in Japan) -- it was made entirely of songs handed to them by the record company and quite a bit more "pop" than the style they play now. Other than that, it's just one great rock song after another, IMHO.

Akane is IMO the tastiest drummer in the world ... yes, there are fast, more technical drummers in the world, but she just has a way of creating the perfect beat/fills for the song ... the only one that comes even close os Tomoya from 'One Ok Rock'. Check out their alter-ego Band-Maiko (a band they resurrect evey April 1st as an 'April Fools Joke', but it's no joke though and might even be better than their actual selves as they add some traditional cloths and instruments to the mix). Band-Maiko Gion-Cho is a song arranged by Kanami (the lead guitar player) and this is one of the rare songs she does not do any lead guitar breaks, Instead she arranged the song to make room for the Bass and Drums to take over the musical reigns (the bass and drums just keep doing some awesome 'almost lead' playing, while the guitars sit back and let them take over the job of keeping the music interesting .. meanwhile the vocals are also giving lots of room to show off as well ... it's one of my favorite songs of this group, which is strange since my favorite player is Kanami and she doesn't have a large part in the instrumental portion of the song, but my respect for her jumped leaps and bounds when I found out it was her who did the awesome unselfish arrangements. The ones who have tickets (meet and greet) to the shows in the US, one of you guys need give Saiki a pair of Jordan sneaker. She is a collector. Don't know her size but she will jump for joy and probably give you a hug.

I like each member of the band, but if I had to choose my favorite, it would be the drummer, Akane. She is such a dork and makes me laugh the most. When I first heard them I cried tears of joy because this is the rock my whole life was waiting for. The fact that they are all incredibly beautiful and wearing sexy outfits is the least important part of who and what they are. That's the joke, I challenge anybody to find fault with the integrity of their musical performance. Compare that to propped up vacuous pop stars, real talent and hard work stand out. Just my own opinion, nothing against people who like cardboard cutouts.

You have to hear these women LIVE to really appreciate just how awesome they truly are. Try Take Me Higher LIVE (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rKypjMyBqcDelKs.html) and watch the best rhythm section (Misa/bass; Akane/drums and Kanami/guitar) really go at from bass slapping to Wah-Wah pedal madness. Talented musicians who have been working their gifts from an early age and it shows. Shout out to Miku who founded the band (worked in a Maid cafe thus the theme) switched to back up vocals when Saiki was brought on board to be lead vocalist and then had Kanami teach her to play rhythm guitar which she has worked at and become damn good on. She did all that to make this group better, no ego wars here as they are there for each other and they each get some time to shine. Nice reaction but LIVE is the only way to experience this amazing band. They are one of many great all female bands coming out of Japan, a lot of metal bands like Aldious, Lovebites, Mary's Blood, and numerous others. You might like, perhaps, the great teen sister band from Mexico (The Warning) who are truly awesome. They are independent and fan supported who write, arrange and play their own music which is amazing. Their songs are in English and again LIVE they are awesome, a real rock band that had real ability and play with total passion and joy. There are even some band-maid fans that like to criticize and put down the founding member of this group, Miku Kobato. Who is a marketing genius, had a vision and executed it. without her there never would have been a Band Maid. Not only did she find these ladies and put them together as a unit. But she has written most of the lyrics for all of their self penned songs. And a side note oh, she is so cute adorable sexy hot and funny !

Love the reaction! Choose Me was my first introduction to the band. It came up randomly on YT and I just clicked because . . . why wouldn't you?! Their name is BAND-MAID! LOL Hope you guys enjoy many more reactions to all of their music. Their live stuff is top tier, hard rock. I, too, first fell for Akane with her wicked beats, but I'm a little obsessed with Kanami now. I really dig her tone and style.

Hello from Japan! Very nice reaction! I think lyrics translation is almost correct. The words “AI” same pronunciation “I”, means “love” in Japanese. It’s rhymes. So, Japanese singers often use Japanese and English crossover because we feel its sounds more cool. We never feel strange with those crossover. I am interested that you said you love the camera work it’s not only lead vocal. There’s a reason, the lead vocal isn’t main for this band , all members are equal. Lead guitarist, bassist, drummer, they have great skill they studied music in school. Miku, rhythm guitar and backing vocal, her skill of instrument is less than others, but she is the founder of this band. If she is not here, Band-Maid never realised. She started playing guitar when Saiki joined the band!( oh yes, she has a great teacher of guitar, Kanami.) And you said you like Miku’s voice. I completely agree! Saiki has very strong deeper voice little bit darker. Miku’s softer voice is perfect blended with Saiki’s voice. I recommend other songs below. If you want to feel epic, “Take Me Higher (live)”. When need shock and speed, “Domination (live)”. Need more power, “Freedom (live)”. I think live performance is better because their live performances have strong energy (and incredibly, they don’t mistake in live ). Thank you and sorry for my poor English.

Watch out for copyright strikes. Do live stuff or at least pause at some point during the video. There have been problems with the official videos knocking people off KZfaq so just be careful. The live stuff is (in my opinion) actually better than studio. You might want to watch Don't You Tell Me live so you can hear Misa really cut loose on bass. She's a total monster and the two you've looked at don't really expose her very much. Have fun. By the way, I have their whole catalog. There's a piece called Shake That that really pushed me over the edge and I took the plunge.

If your interested in what it's like to go to one of their shows, this is about the best I've seen and the sound is great and so are the girls Its three song that you have not seen yet. But the best part is the drum solo, and Kanami going crazy on the guitar. The post gets in the way but it makes it authentic. But it's great

I thought I was watching an old reaction video then I look at the dates that you just posted this today! I'm so happy you found them! I ran into them about a year ago and I am still blown away... yes he has to watch the interviews they're hilarious brooding Missa in the beginning Suki would hardly speak and had nothing Pleasant to say haha, and kaname could not be sweeter the lead guitarist Miku is bubbly and I kind of is The Rock and they voted her the leader of the band..... there's a couple of live acoustic songs that out there but you can't watch them until you watch the regular version live first...Suki shines... they are all just so talented.... so what are they putting in the water over there? Haha
