About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!

KDFW Channel 4 in Dallas-Fort Worth, TX at the time was CBS station of the Time-Mirror which sells remaining stations to Argyle Television in summer of 1993, then to New World Television in 1995 as following by transition to FOX (that is largely same influence since 1986 EDSA Revolution of the Philippines as TNC-BET (later TNC-ETN) have rebranding as EGV in 1993-1995 period), CBS however is moved to KTVT then owned by Gaylord Company, and KDAF have been carried programming without The WB in most days until finally enable in 1997-98 season (KDAF is now CW 33 and Nexstar ownership).

Times Mirror also owned the Dallas Times Herald, which competed with The Dallas Morning News until it folded in 1991. The News' parent company, A.H. Belo, also owned rival station WFAA, now owned by TEGNA and still affiliated with ABC. Charlie Van Dyke was the voice of all the Times Mirror stations. and is heard in the Social Security and Labor PSAs.

@@1thetvzone Check the history. WBBM-TV is the original WBKB, which was on channel 4 in Chicago. CBS purchased the ch. 4 license after it was spun off in the ABC-United Paramount Theatres merger in 1953 (resulting in the WBKB call sign moving to what was WENR-TV on channel 7). Only a few months after that, WBBM-TV moved to channel 2 in a frequency realignment.

Jim Bradshaw, the Fort Worth Mayor pro Tem seen near the end of the top story, later became the Republican nominee for the House seat held by then-House Majority Leader (and future Speaker of the House) Jim Wright, who was the highest ranking Democrat specifically targeted by the Republicans in 1980. Despite Ronald Reagan easily carrying Texas and most of the country en route to his landslide victory, the GOP flipping the Senate for the first time since early in the Eisenhower years and making gains in the House, Bradshaw would be unsuccessful in unseating Wright

Other local Bell companies, like Pacific Telephone (later Pacific Bell and bought by SBC), may have also run this campaign. Would Kramer have emerged on "Seinfeld?" 21:38 The Dallas Morning News (whose parent company also owned TV rival WFAA) was fighting a war with the Dallas Times Herald (whose parent company owned KDFW). KDFW was owned by Times Mirror which sold it to Argyle Television stations - then New World Stations bought the four Argyle Television stations for $717 million. KDFW- KTBC-KTVI- { WVTM} but New World transfer instead WBRC in Birmingham instead of WVTM.
@lakebay972
@lakebay972 2 жыл бұрын
It wasn’t necessarily the NFL contract that caused the switch. It was Fox chief Rupert Murdoch buying the company that owned CBS affiliate KDFW and others across the country. With the sale, Murdoch decided to make them all Fox affiliates. As for KTVT Channel 11 becoming a CBS affiliate, it was originally going to go to NBC5 with 5 becoming CBS and Channel 39 taking NBC affiliation; but that deal fell through because the 4 major networks wanted to have a VHF channel in the DFW market. VHF channels are between 2 and 13 while UHF channels are from 14 to 69 (sans 37). So, after the 5/39 deal fell through, Channel 11 was the only one available; so they became CBS and the rest is history.

@@lakebay972 Channel 11 up to 1995 was sort of the DFW equal of say a WTBS Superstation especially in the late 1980s (aka an independent station airing syndicated re-runs, WCCW wrestling, and cartoons which happened to be on the VHF dial). @@johndavis8669 It's a problem not just in Texas. My father-in-law was a member of the KofC, he passed in 2013, and my husband and his brothers were and are regular visitors for their fish dinners on Friday (especially during Lent). The thing is that the members have largely aged and died, and there's very few new members joining. It's a problem with the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) too, there's just a lack of new generations joining. It's hard to know how to keep the groups alive without families staying with the organizations, and the growing lack of sense of community isn't helping.
