SOS Call System Failure Repair BMW 4 series

Hello, in this episode I will repair a superb BMW 4 series f36 ,it has a message in the on-board instruments related to SOS failure, after a diagnosis I saw that the module TCB responsible for this service does not respond on the diagnosis , after I remove it from the car I found that it was destroyed by water and has traces of corrosion, therefore I replaced it with a second hand unit that had to be coded ,and everything went by the book, in the end everything returned to normal and the error disappeared from the instrument cluster !

So, after much investigation I found it. Before you waste half a day of your life following this merry dance to discover the module doesn’t live under the headliner, like I did, I would strongly suggest looking under the luggage floor panel. In my 2014 F36 Gran Coupe, this is where the module lives. Not under the headliner. Takes but a second to look and access is right there in front of you. What a bloody wind up! Thanks for that…

Thanks so much for creating this video tutorial. Saved me £100's just completed a battery change on my 18 plate f36. Battery was dated June 2018. SOS warning light has gone away now.

This is a helpful video thanks. I recommend that persons unfamiliar with the various clips look carefully at them to see how they reinsert. The clip missing in this video in the center rear is very hard to remove without breaking.

Great video! Is it the sameprocess from battery point of view for a 2014-07 version? It's not lci and maybe the battery is the older one with location in the trunk somewhere...?

I had the problem on my X1 F48 2017 model. Assume it’s software have bugs. Tested to call SOS after shows SOS system failure message, get through perfectly, which proves the system NOT failure. Used voice control coincidentally last week, the fault message disappeared dramatically, and didn’t back till today. I rarely use voice control before, have tried to disconnect blue tooth device and reconnect from other youtube video, didn’t work well. Can’t say it’s the solution, but cost nothing and worth a try.

Did you then glue the rubber seal edge protection or use a sealant when installing

Hi, One point from my side. Now with that module remote don’t work with that vin of the car and if they have online service ordered it’s now stop work 😉 Of course it’s possible to second problem fix but remote now it’s not possible for that vin of car ( can be used with donors car of course 😉😉)

Of course it won't work , becouse have a different IMEI , one thing will be to retrieve the eSIM from the original TCB and mount it in the NEW one AKA second hand ( but I didn't try it so far becouse the owners of the cars won't be interested )

Hello, the message from instruments will disappear, the error will remain in the memory of the car till will be erased.

At 0:54, which software do you use ? If you go to testing instructions, does your software show the capacity left so that one can tell although SOS battery is not bad now, but soon it will go bad and will throw the error.

It seems like the water came through sharkfin-antenna gasket. Without sorting the water entry problem into cabin, the new module will suffer soon similar damage.

The car roof was repainted at one point and the shark type antenna cover on the roof was removed for painting , and as you can imagine it was not properly mounted back :)

Hi does the part number have to be the same? My part number is 820716 but I’m struggling to find one with the same number but have the same connections and looks the same. I have found one with the part number 734740 which is exactly the same but the number, would this work if it was coded in? Thanks.

Replace the battery Drive the car as normal MSG will clear after 40-50 miles automatically If you don't want to code it

Hi. Yes an excellent how video. I followed step by step to get inside the headliner but, in my case, once in there there was NO Telematics Module!! I have the message constantly on the dashboard so I assume it must be somewhere?? Can anyone solve this mystery for me? Same car - F36 2014 (420d Xdrive Luxury trim)

More good news from BMW. 3G cellular will sunset in early 2022 in the USA and other parts of the world. So pre-2016 BMWs will loose all BMW Connected Drive and Remote Assist (SOS and eCall) services. Some cars can be upgraded to 4G by BMW for free. But most BMW cars are SOL. Replacing the telematics module might also require the antenna module inside the shark fin to be replaced, since the water damage impacts both electronics. A lot easier on a BMW 3-Series sedan. Many who get their roofs wrapped in vinyl will have the shark fin reattached and sealed incorrectly, causing a water leak. If you go thru a laser car wash, look for water leaks coming from the third brake light and a damp headliner.

Hello, good question, ECU stands for Electronic Control Units , when reading ECU, you read the modules that respond , VCM is Vehicle Configuration Menegment, the VCM is stored in ZGW , is the configuration that supposed to be on that specific vehicle according to the vehicle equipment/coding

hello, Can you please tell me if the procedure for the X3 G01 is the same. I have all the software and hardware but this is the first video were I actually see it being done. do you have to code the vin of your car on the old module?

@@RKSAINT yes. So every G01 produced before 2022 has issues with the glue on the antenna. BMW release a SIB about it. Pretty much the glue they use to adhere the antenna to the car doesn’t adheres well due to something on the paint it self.

@@RKSAINT I ended up replacing the TCB since I was having Bluetooth issues from it. But there is a way you can remove the code from popping up on your dashboard using bimmer codes if you don’t wanna spend the money on fixing the module

@@Pipe.007⁠so I removed my telematics unit from the roof and opened it up and there was no sign of water or rust. Everything seems good. Checked out the fuse near the passenger foot well which was a pain to get to was also good. I’m thinking of going to parts at bmw and buying and new battery and trying that out again.

Mi se pare aiurea ca BMW pune o baterie ce trebuie inlocuita in spatele tapiteriei de pe plafon, astfel ca service-ul autorizat BMW factureaza cateva ore de manopera pentru inlocuirea bateriei.. De asta m-am si uitat la video pentru ca nu intelegeam ce e de lucru 4 ore la schimbarea unei baterii.

Salut, nu e deloc aiurea , bateria e montata in acel loc mai greu accesibil din motive de siguranta , spre exemplu pe langa functia de SOS prin acel modul se poate urmari masina in caz de furt , masinile aste nu sunt construite sa fie reparate la bordura , deci daca ai cunostintele necesare scule si acces la informatie totul e simplu si are o logica

..I have a question..in my E60 lci I see a fault code with a shitass Icarsoft device🤣. It says SINE internal battery,sirene and tilt alarm. I guess it is a module with a battery in it, similar to the module in your video. Where in the car is this module ? The battery is possible to buy at Bmw?

Your error is from the siren for the alarm system , the siren have a built-in rechargeable battery (being a safety system if you will disconnect the car battery the alarm will sound 😉 even without the car battery) the battery from the siren isn't replaceable, you need a new alarm siren, the siren is hidden behind the rear wheel arch liner

Poor sealing at the antenna seems to be a common problem. My 3 year old 440 GC suffers the same issue. Lousy quality from BMW

I just bought one and got this message on the way home. When I got home I made an appointment with my local BMW dealership and they looked up the VIN and determined that my warranty had expired 3 days before I was there. I asked it they could do something since Im new to the dealership and brand and it's only been 3 days out of warranty. They told me they needed to run a $150 diagnostic and then they'd determine if there was anything that they could do. I told them I'd pick up the car. Screw them, they're not getting another dime of my money. I'll live with the error message. Im not paying BMW labor rate of $200 an hour to fix this useless function. When I finally get tired of it, I'll take it to an independent mechanic and pay them. Completely disappointed with my BMW experience just ONE DAY into ownership.
