Keep Failing Your Motorcycle CBT? | This Could Be Why, You Won't Like it!
I want to make this very very clear, There is no shame in taking a couple of goes at the CBT.
This is for the ones who seem to want to blame everything else but themselves. Beaning they never focus on the issue holding them back.

Leaving this comment for people who don't pass on Day 1. When that happened to me, I went on the internet and all I saw were people saying how it was impossible to fail. Felt awful. Well, I failed it and passed (JUST) the second day. After that miserable experience, I didn't ride for a year until I could see my CBT was going to expire. I didn't want to go through that humiliation again. There was nothing wrong with the school - I am just naturally shit at riding, and for whatever reason, that school wasn't the right one for me. Nothing wrong with the school, but as a teacher myself I know that sometimes teachers and students just don't click. No-one's fault. Anyway, thank GOODNESS I found a different school. I never ever imagined I'd be able to handle a "big bike" and was going to just do the A1 or A2 but the new school got my confidence up and I took the full DAS a few months later. Been riding a Street Triple for the past 3 years, and I never ever ever thought that would be me. Never give up!

I never reached the standard first day when I did my cbt 3 years ago. I was gutted but it was the best thing that happened as I felt no more confident on the bike at the end than I did at the beginning. I went back 3 days later had a couple of hours one on one and it was night and day I felt great at the end. Everyone learns at different speeds no shame in not hitting the mark first time and you can never have too much training.

Defo, the passed me after a dubious U turn. And a few stalls. But, now I’ve passed and 18 months on I have passed IAM advanced level. It would have better for my safety to come back in hindsight, but I went bought a cb125r and didn’t look back - that was so much easier to ride

Wish my instructor was like that. He was a old boy who just qualified as a instructor and he was dead pedantic right too the book. He failed me and told me he won’t be taking me on the road as I couldn’t meet the criteria. At that point I’d lost all interest jumped in my car and left. I’ll rebook it but with a different school. Can’t risk having that same instructor again.

I failed due to never riding a bike and doing the cbt on a geared bike. Flubbed the gears and got annoyed with myself, was made worse by the instructor getting annoyed at me over the intercom. Went back the next day to have another go on the road and had no problem at all.

Hi Spicy, wise words indeed, and a big thanks to you. I started my journey into biking literally two years ago and had no clue on how to ride or even how to get started. The very first video I watched on KZfaq, was your "how to ride a motorcycle for beginners" I'm a bit behind due to a certain pandemic, but pleased to say that I passed my Mod 1 on Wednesday and my Mod 2 on Thursday to get my full A license 😁 So to everyone out there, keep at it and do yourselves a favour a watch all of Spicy's videos. You will never stop learning.

"being right and under a truck is still a bad thing" awesome I love it lol. I have to say that riding just isn't for some people. when I did my DAS there was a guy doing his CBT he had been there for two days already (the school did a train till you pass thing for a flat fee although I'm sure there is probably a limit) when we finally got on the road we got to the second corner and he lost the front end so back to the centre we went (good manual handling practice pushing the bikes back lol) they offered to get another instructor up for him from the office as we needed to get out to the MOD1 practise area but he decided enough was enough and called it a day.

I barely passed my cbt, had to finish it on a 50cc scooter in the end. Practiced in side roads for a couple of weeks until I took my geared 125 on to main roads. It just takes a bit of practice to get good at it, learning any new skill isn't easy. But the first thing you have to do is lose the ego and be happy to start from zero. Once you can do that then you can learn anything in life I reckon

Hi Spicy, I discovered your channel when I was learning to drive back in 2013/2014, partially due to wanting to learn more about other road users but also because riding a bike was something I was always interested in which my family were very much against. A couple of years later one of my few family members who did ride bikes sadly lost his life while on his way home from work, by all accounts riding in a completely safe manner, as such this essentially sealed my fate in my family not allowing me to get a bike. A fair few years have passed since then and I finally grew a pair and decided that the time is right and that I'd rather get on a bike instead of constantly wondering "what if?". As a result I am now the proud owner of a 2020 KTM 125 duke and can't wait to get my CBT done and be on the road. The point of this comment is to just thank you for the years of entertainment and more importantly the plethora of knowledge you have dedicated so many hours of your life towards relaying to the biking community. the sheer amount of people you have helped on their journeys is immeasurable and that over the many years of watching your videos, I genuinely feel that you will have helped me be a safer more knowledgeable rider in the long run. Seriously, thanks for everything you do for the community.

Friend, thank you for your work and content; its a fine portfolio you are sporting and I have watched many of them. On a very similar note, I took my cbt very late after early retirement. Hence I poured over every word of the highway code, theory training etc etc. Then promptly waltzed my way through the cbt, thoroughly emboldened with my ego thrust out in front, even larger than my imaginary huge tadger. Then swiftly onto the theory and video tests.........and was brought straight down to earth and sent packing with my actually very normal tally-whacker hid away in my pants and my illusions of worldly wisdom dominance put very appropriately in their place. I passed them but only just and this was a huge shock; I was so completely convinced of my capacity to pass with no errors. This come-down was harsh and I instantly did EXACTLY as you said, blaming all manner of things other than myself for the close call I had and the very real possibility of failure that I almost endured. On to my mode on the tarmac parade ground. My instructors were thorough, the weather fine, they even hired or obtained permission for us to use the actual official test site for practice where the tarmac surface was exemplary. I trained hard and did my test wonderfully. Or so I thought. The tester took me to one side and explained, I had failed because I locked up the back wheel on the emergency stop. I was enraged, incensed. I didn't lock up at all, the examiner just didn't look properly, they needed some failures for their stats........blah, excuse....blah, tantrum....blah, whine.......etc etc. Exactly as you said, all over again. With my life destroyed, society determined to get me, suicide the only option, I dived into a pint of half brown ale half self-pity, I whined to my mate. He said something that turned my head and to this day I have no idea why but it worked. He simp,y said "Just get back on a bike, listen to every word your instructor says but actually listen with all your concentration, don't assume you have any skills other than those being taught to you, and APPLY yourself. All your years, previous skills other skills, dad-stuff, husband stuff, home-ownerr stuff mean nothing. Learn and practice the skills you are being taught, shut up and just apply yourself. Shortly after, I passed my mod1 with the same tester who stopped me at the end to comment how my total attitude and mindset had changed and I had done exceptionally well. This time, I packed my ego away, listened intently, took it on the chin when I messed things up, learned from my mistakes and applied myself. My mode was an absolute p,ensure and yotal success because ghe first place I looked if things weren't quite right was myself. The tester commented on how well I had trained and when little errors made, I ne er made them twice. Mode2 in the bag and a big chunk of humility on-board as my instructors warned me.........you have learned to pass a test, not be a good experienced rider, yet. Keep learning and keep looking to yourself to learn more. Great wise words you speak, friend and they, with my mates advice put me on my bikes today. Good luck to all that would join us.

Completely agree with everything said in this video. I'll add my take as a driver and not a rider, I think there's one big factor that compounds everything you've said here - age/maturity. To put it bluntly, a lot of these people are 16, 17 year olds who quite frankly sometimes lack maturity to understand that their mindset is to blame, not someone else. They just don't always evaluate the situation in a particularly adult way - nothing wrong with that at all; I wasn't especially mature at 16 either, and as a 21 year old I still miscalculate things. Another thing that comes with the age of people doing CBTs (as you alluded to in the video) is the money thing. ~£150 (the cost in my area) is absolutely peanuts for a test that will get you on the road with no prior lessons (bearing in mind the cost includes protective gear and bike hire). Driving lessons are anywhere from £20-£40 an hour depending on where you live, and people are taking regularly 30+ hours of lessons, plus a test fee. To complain about £150 for a CBT is objectively insane , but that being said again I realise that for a 16 year old, £150 can be a lot of money so I understand why they may be angry to not pass (even if it's irrational). Anyway, very interesting video that transcends bike riding, and is a great life lesson for all of us! *edit: stupid me you did mention age😂😂😂. But yeah I guess my point is that I think age is possibly the one thing that just makes every single one of these factors a bit worse

I think the reason we say you "can't fail" the cbt is because when you do "fail", its not a retake. You just pick up where you left off. Say you cant get the figure 8 down, you dont need to retest emergency stops and shifting gears, you just come back another day and do more figure 8s. So while in the heart it definitely feels like a fail, in actuality its just a "you need longer"

This lesson can be applied to pretty much any learning opportunity in life and it forms part of the Dunning-Kruger effect. Sadly, youth tend to be wasted on the young and you can’t teach experience. Everybody generally gets there though, it just takes some a bit longer than others. Hope you are well bud. 👍🏻

Great video again and hit the nail on the head. The CBT is easy if you listen, learn and remember you know very little on the subject. One slight correction if I can though Spicy. The concept of “right of way”. It does not exist. You do not have any right of way. What you might have is priority. Sounds like semantics but it really is not. Right of way gives the impression you have a right to something. Priority suggests the other person should stop but if they don’t you should. Priority is what keeps you alive.

Some very good comments made in this video. As a volunteer instructor I find the ones who do not get through first time, are trainees that think they don't need to take CBT. The powers that be don't like us to use the word fail as might upset someone, but agree with you if you don't pass then you have failed. As a non profit making training scheme we charge around the £140 mark but if you don't get through we don't charge for 2nd or 3rd attempt so if need 2 goes at it only costing £70 per day including bike hire.

There are bike people ... and then there are people who really shouldn't be allowed near a bike let alone (attempting to be) in control of one. I have two very good mates who are both riding instructors (one a CBT trainer, the other more advanced) and some of the stories they have about training mishaps are outstanding .. one of my favourites being a lad who heard the words "turning right for third exit" from the instructor as they approached a small roundabout .. the lad literally turned right onto the roundabout into oncoming traffic, dropped the bike and legged it like Usain Bolt!!!

This almost happened to me during my check ride; the gears sometimes wouldn't change. At one point I had to "walk" the bike to the side of the road at a roundabout. The instructor (great guy) asked why, I told him what happened, and he explained the feathering the clutch thing. From then on, no issues. Point is, I learnt by explaining the issue and made myself safe while figuring out. It was a total learning experience that got me through it. Just ask questions, get answers and learn. I knew nothing of the quirks of motorcycles at that point, only the basics, and sadly in my case, a quirk was heading me towards failure. I got through it in the end by taking a positive and inquisitive approach

I passed my Category A Bike test in 1992 and havent ridden a bike for over 20 years and even I will seek some training before I return to motorcycling, I recently had to fight for my car license required by DVLA for health reasons and I was tested by the RDAC twice, firstly when they tried to have my license removed and again when I challenged their descision (in short they only tested me in adapted vechicles not a manual or automatic vechicle). You have to be able to accept critism from the instructors a little humility goes a long way to making the instructor see that you are perfectly capeable of taking critism and moving on and learning from the experience, Ive been driving vechicles for 35 years but I still made mistakes, if I was in denial at the start of the testing, I had changed my attitude a lot by the end of the test, listen to the instructor, take critism move on and learn from it and you will probably do well. I still have my full license, it took a year to get it back but it was worth it, I was labelled as not being able to drive manual vechicles because of an illness, I had to proove that decision was wrong because people adapt their skill set to varying circumstances which is less black and white than the burocracy and peoples perceptions make it, we adapt and thats the beauty of being human.

Kinda needed to hear that. Failed my CBT on Monday after years of wanting to get on a motorcycle and felt like complete shite, really killed my confidence. Instructor told me to buy a push bike and practice balance, relaxation and leaning on two wheels as I tended to be stuff and resist the bike during steering and figures of 8 so I got one yesterday and I'm trying to practice daily. Hopefully I won't have to surrender to the idea that Riding is not for me

totally agree*. I failed my cat the first time. I pulled out in front of someone on the road section. shoulder checked, then absentmindedly dropped the clutch too early because i was nervous about stalling. I needed the extra time with the bike in the parking lot, and crucially -- a week off to digest what i learned in that first course. Second one was a breeze. I still need to do my big bike test, but I've done about 7,500 miles of fun roads, dirt roads and recently a bit of commuting, so hopefully I've got a sporting chance. * ...and this is where I don't 100% agree. I can't do on a bike what every spotty youth can do in a car -- do a bunch of practice with mum or dad and then rock up at the test centre in the family volvo and crack on. I have a friend, very experienced rider, who hadn't ridden for a few years in the UK and for being the wrong sort of foreigner, had to take his UK test. He drove to the test centre where he met his son in law who had ridden down on his VFR. His mod 1 tester properly frowned on him not bringing a school bike and an instructor, and it felt to him like they tried very hard to fail him, but couldn't. So for his mod 2 he found a friendly school who let him do a quick half day of traffic riding before they went to the test centre. He passed easily, this time without any dirty looks from the tester. You were saying about "this is not a money racket"?

I was about to get my A2 licence and I started doing lessons with a 400cc honda cb400sf without any prior experience. My instructor has always keep telling me that "I can't handle the weight of the bike" and "I did the wrong thing because I wanted to ride a heavy bike without previous experience".He was right and on point about certain things, but he shouldn't force me on giving up. I ended up getting an A1 licence and I failed the practical test once because I didn't want that.I wanted to ride an A2 motorcycle and I was really dissapointed and depressed.I really regret that I ended up following his "advice". I was blaming him completely on failing to achieve my "dream" on riding a motorcycle. So it was a combination of ego and lack of support from my loved ones and my instructor that led me to this result, having to retake a licence test to get a licence that I didn't want to.I hope I'll get the courage in the future to get my full A licence. A small part of me wanted to blame the bike, clutch was worn, rear break was too sensitive, etc, but the instructors could easily demonstrate on the bike I was given and it was CLEAR that it was simply an experience thing. Totally agreed with the instructors that adding traffic into the mix on the road ride would have overwhelmed me. Will give it another attempt in a couple of weeks, hopefully all that knowledge will have had time to filter down.

mate for me it was 30 degrees recently and failed my first cbt, and it was on a geared so i was just not getting the clutch right, but like 2 weeks later i did it and passed, i think people should know its a not a bad thing to not pas a cbt and theres needs to be no shaming to others who fail it and other people learn quicker and slower, i now kinda am into bikes allot and already looking into doing the a 2 test thingey xD. so ya good vid mate, also when you talked about gears i never once thought it was the bikes fault ever and its always so stupid to see that point of view. i just straight up told them i dont feel confident on the road enough on the roads so that mind set you talked about is mind blowing. had this one guy who failed his 4th time and he said, and i quote ''this cbt school is a scam'' and ''these 2 instructors are naff, rubbish and really bad'' i straight told him he was fine and it was funny hahaha. i laugh now remembering it now that you said about people blaming others and other factors other than selves hahahahahahahahaa

Never failed cbt which I have done 3 times. Passed my mod 1 and hazard perception first time no minors but failed mod 2 3-4 times. Failure is part of learning and even when you have passed it is good to carry on training. I made the decision to stop riding because of an accident and statistics aren't in riders favour sadly for staying alive. I will never forget my time riding though. The main thing with a cbt is really trying to nail the practice and be confident before you go out on the road ride. You can actually practice this stuff on a push bike around quiet roads in terms of lane position / shoulder checks etc.

Great video mate. I'm taking my CBT in a couple of weeks. Never ridden a bike before, aside from a 20 minute taster session about 16 years ago. I've cycled on the roads for many years, so things like lifesavers etc are almost second nature these days, but that doesn't mean I know everything about being on two wheels on the road.

To be fair, occasionally the bike they give you to test on can be an issue. On my last CBT (which I passed) I really struggled with the bike because I just couldn't get my foot to reach the gear shift (the lever didn't stick out far enough). I could barely catch it with the edge of my boot so I could still change gear, but I missed quite a few changes when out on the road. It also didn't help that it was blowing a gale, pissing with rain, and most of the test was carried out along the Lee on Solent and Gosport coast so I got properly battered 😁.
@SWATStrachan
@SWATStrachan 2 жыл бұрын
Just for clarification, the first time I did my CBT I didn't have all the proper motorcycle gear, so I had a pair of well broken in Harley boots which gave me ample flexibility to reach the gear shift, but on the second I had a pair of virtually brand new rigid polymer boots that simply wouldn't bend enough to reach the stubby lever (but they reach the lever on my Michigan perfectly well).

I failed my CBT the first try and at first I blamed myself and took it bad, mainly because I tried hard and also had 14 years driving experience and I couldn't see where I went wrong. I understood there was lack of experience riding a bike my side and really wanted to understand where I might have gone wrong and I knew it was unlikely to be the equipment's fault. After a short break, I tried again with a different school. The second instructor helped me learn from my previous mistakes and also in general taught me more. It became obvious when comparing to my first attempt that I was unknowingly making some mistakes and also he explained why the bike I had the first time could have been causing me trouble. It was kind of obvious that the first school was really bad in comparison. So if you fail maybe try another school and don't hold back from asking questions because even the little things on the bike make a big difference.

The day I did my CBT there was a 16yo kid. I was a bit concerned that after a few hours of dicking about on a 50cc he would be let out on his own on the road. Personally I would like the examiner to teach them a bit more about how the roads work, for there own safety really. I know not everyone is the same with being on the road but a little bit of knowledge might save a life.

My riding school (Bike It) was fantastic and combined with watching your videos I finally got my license in December. I managed to fail my mod2 because I was being a complete tit and never used a bus Lane that stopped being a bus Lane at 09:30. I started my test at 9!! Argued my case but ultimately it’s was my fault. But it focused me too pass my test 2nd time with no minors. Left the test centre and jumped onto a gsxr600 and proceeded to shit my pants at the difference in speed 🤣 I then decided to park that in the garage and buy something a bit more sensibly, a triumph speed triple 1050!😁 Keep up the great work big fella and I’ll be going your patreon soon so I can pick your brain 👍

I passed mine first time this year but I remember thinking as we were about to go on the road ride "I'm not sure I'm ready for this". I was pretty nervous and I've been driving for 30 years. It worked out ok in the end other than I kept forgetting to cancel the indicators to begin with due to being overwhelmed with all the other things I was trying to learn while riding. I can imagine if you're 16 and sent out on the road after a couple of hours round a car park it must be very intimidating.

The instructor was good and said “unfortunately we won’t be taking you on the road this time” he had a word with me and said “don’t he disheartened , we just need to get you confident on the last bit” I was my very first time on a bike. People that annoy me are those riders we all know them who have done a DAS and have never ridden a bike before and have been on a bike 2 weeks trying to tell someone on a CBT who's been riding 10 years they're just a leaner and they know better. I think also if you are doi g your money will 3rd CBT that it should last 5 years then every 5 as by then you've had 4 years riding on the road. This way every 5 years bad habits will get picked up which is more than those with an A licence get or a car. But those on a CBT basically get tested every 2 years yet they're on the least dangerous bikes.

Really couldnt put it any other way, after 2 years stopped biking got a car and matured with my family we started, now being 33 my road sense is night and day in comparison so now i feel im ready to go back to biking and head straight to the full bike course. I will say this tho why we allow people on the roads with a cbt WITHOUT a theory test is insane, most of me being an idiot when i was young was because i knew nothing about the roads, make it so they have to have theory done first and our roads would be miles better. Before people moan about money a theory is only £23 and all the info can be found online to revise, hopefully we can all make our roads safer together

I remember when I first did my CBT I failed miserably on the final element. I was paired with another dude and I was doing fine until he took the lead. Should of thought for myself and instead I went into sheep mode and followed almost every decision he made. Caused me to fail (so did he, mind). Always think for yourself and dress appropriately for the weather. A thick winter jacket on a 18 Celsius day is not smart and it definitely crippled my performance and concentration on the road. A week and £50 later on a colder rainy day I did the final element again 1 to 1 with the instructor and it was absolutely amazing. Went really well and really didn't make any mistakes. It was just really nice to be on the road. Tldr: think yourself, dress appropriately for the weather and you will be much better off.

Personally I don't think CBT is fit for purpose. If you've never been on a bike before, 1 day just isn't enough. I nearly gave up after my CBT because I really didn't feel ready to go out on the roads on my own, ( I've had a car license for over 20 years). I now have my full A license. And I wish the instructor had not given my son his CBT after the 1 day. He really wasn't ready, and having another half a day or so would have made the world of difference to his ability and his confidence.

CBT was really interesting, going into a manual with no experience was a little too challenging for me on the first day. I understand that at the end of the day it is a test but if certain things from the day changed i would have defo passed. 1) there were a lot of word play going on. for example hyper explaining simple things that the instructors did was overwhelming. If we just got demonstrations and just left to our devices to get used to it would have helped tremendously. 2) Rushing through exercises instead of allowing us to get used to the bikes would have made all the difference in the world. There is a learning curve to a bike which during my second CBT the instructor would not acknowledge this which is frankly not true, especially for a beginner, we need to get used to our bikes before we are comfortable and follow the exercises properly. I did my first and second CBT on the same bike and i was significantly better on it the second time. During my first CBT i could not get used to the (white) bike and follow the exercises, the second CBT i did them all somewhat perfectly. During my second CBT the instructor during our break asked me if wanted to go on this (Red) bike and i only used the newer and crappier (white) version of that model for both of my CBT before. and i wanna say that this other older model was a billion times better than the (white) i used for both of my CBT. not only it handled better but it didn't jerk as much when accelerating on 1-5mph. Sadly it was too late when i found this out. All the other lucky people who got to use this bike had it much easier than the bike i previously used. Next time i, definitely using this Red older model bike. even the people who saw me struggle during CBT including my instructor was so surprised that i cruised through all the exercises i was bad at and got them perfectly the first time when this red bike. It felt so much smoother to control and never once jerked when when the throttle. I struggled to do figure of 8s because i couldn't keep a consistent lower speeds with out the bike jerking and me putting my leg down, i even did tight circles around a tiny cone which no one other could do. With that said i did fail again but this time for the lack of highway code knowledge during our sit down. Never overseeing this ever again. but it felt good to know that my bike was the problem all along and it had a much difficult learning curve than other bikes used by fellow trainees. Next time I'm going to be much prepared and ask for the bike i feel most comfortable in and go with a full knowledge of the highway code and pass that. because my fear of the road is pretty much completely gone after comparing the bikes. My advise to those in the same shoes, try out different bike if the one you are using isn't tuned properly or feels out of tune. Read the Fvck out the highway code, some instructors wont mind if you know nothing but some will fail you if you didn't know 1 out of 5 questions. Best to be prepared! I'm gonna save up and try again soon and hopefully this time i pass with flying colours!

When I did my cbt I was on a geared 125, and another lad was on his own scooter. Despite accidentally pulling a short wheelie, I passed. Instructor understood I’d pulled in to wait for them to catch up and just gave it too much. Other lad failed 1/2 mile from training centre. Why? Going the wrong way around a roundabout. On the bloody ring road! He was told in no uncertain terms he wasn’t safe, and to book more off road training before they’d take him back out for the road section of the cbt.

That is horrible advice from a school IMO. Knowing you are going to ride a manual after, then just passing you on an auto is extremely irresponsible. It is their job to teach you and make sure you will be safe on the road, they did not do that. However, this is very common so I am not surprised.

Passed my CBT about a month ago. On my first attempt everything went smooth UNTIL right before the two hour road drive. The instructor briefly flashed the road signs and asked if I felt confident with them. My hesitation showed, but I tried to cover it up with cockiness and said 'yeah test me if you want.' Major error as I proceeded to get less than the 50% of the road signs correct. I was gutted and pissed off, and embarrassed to go home and tell everyone I hadn't passed, YET 😉. I was so busy studying the gears the week before that I completely overlooked road signs. After blaming everything but myself I realised it was my fault. I think the excitement to pass the CBT and get riding means that if you do fail then it's just incredibly frustrating. After getting out on the road I'm so grateful that I had to wait another week to revise road signs because it's most likely saved my ass more than a few times.

Also for anyone watching watch spicey, look at his lifesavers, they're life savers for a reason, I've been on my CBT 2 years and just renewed and I'm looking to do my full this year, and your right about the 40ho thing, I rode my mates nx750 on private land and gosh I found it do much easier to slow manouver but going up to 25 in first was hilarious, I also wish new 125s with linked brakes actually allowed the rear brake to be separate so you can learn it better.

New rider here; I got into an accident In 2019 on my Honda Shadow, on my CBT, and at the time I felt I was a confident rider. One CAT N’d shadow and a busted leg later, I was scared off of riding for years. Took my geared CBT yesterday and flew through the training, only to fuck up on my turns on the road ride, crashing the bike and ruining it in the process. I have no shame in admitting I failed, because at the end of the day I just couldn’t let go of that fear from that accident all those years ago. Retaking it this week with a newfound determination to get back on the road. The point I’m making is that the only people that will fail, time and time again, are the ones that either don’t *want* to ride, or that can’t admit when they’re struggling. Take your time, do the practice and get the basics down. You can pay for a bike, you can’t pay for a saved life. Good video mate. Good on you.

I failed mine because I couldn’t complete figure of 8. Which didn’t help was the car park where we were doing it was absolutely tiny so there was barely enough room too complete figure of 8 and the instructor put that many cones out on the floor it was hard to follow what cones I was supposed to be driving around. Also the instructor was a old boy, who had just qualified as a instructor so he was dead pedantic and had no patience whatsoever. Raising his voice, too much acceleration, too little acceleration, too much clutch, too little clutch, just felt like he was criticising my every move. And when he said he wasn’t going too take me on the road as he didn’t feel I was safe enough, which I thought there’s point me being there. I’d just lost interest and my nerves were shot. I will rebook but might try a different school.

I failed mine twice, This was about 6 or 7 years ago, I know i made mistakes, but this was also a time when i never got to experience the roads as my family didn't even drive, i never had the chance of any experience due to many things and that is fact, And if it seems like im blaming something already? Its just lifestyle really. After i failed my CBT the 2nd time I wanted to know what i was doing wrong, but at the same time I never asked, And i ended up doing a manual car license passing first time after 6 months give or take, I said to myself i would have my own car by summer and yes, i did, Moving on a bit, I have road experience almost 6 years, Owned a 400 BHP supercharged car, went fast, Understood what that experience is like, How things can get you into trouble quickly and i just naturally started to avoid that sorta style and understood my own purpose of why i drive, and i have solved that really, Im off to do my full A license soon, so i gotta give the local school another chance i guess, Its mindset, I didn't like a specific instructor and that is okay, I know im not perfect with road rules, The majority can say they are not, If you do 31 in a 30 its still speeding at the end of the day, Right now i just hope that because im more aware of the road that it will help me so much with my confidence on a bike, but also the fact that i know what it feels like to be sitting besides cars often where i had no experience what so ever before, sure its different in the open, i just hope i can understand what i have learned better when i hop back on 2 wheels

I understand if it was a mod1 but for a cbt that's a little unfair, it's not like I was hitting cones, dropping the bike or crashing into stuff. There was a night and day difference between the quality of the instructing at another test centre, the second cbt instructor was more helpful and fair as well as offering constructive feedback rather than trying to shoot people down. My main mistake was probably going for the cheapest cbt first, rather than paying that little bit more for a slot in a more recommended test centre.

so today I did my 2nd attempt at my CBT. The first time I had no balance, and So was obviously not let onto the road. I practised, went away and practised more on a bicycle for a month straight, and then today I retook my CBT. Today I did amazingly in the secure training ground, and at the start of the road ride I did very well, I had problems with right of way and who has priority but I figured it out eventually, however, I didn't pass So for context, heavy rainfall all day and the roads were soaked, I'm not using that as an excuse, I'm setting the stage for how it went. I was taking a corner and noticed on the ground there was a wet drainage cover so naturally I avoided it, however, I didn't see the other drainage cover to my right. I went over the right drainage cover and the bike slid out slightly, so I braked and panicked and lost control of the bike and eventually fell off it. I got up and tried again but I was still a bit taken back by the event that I got to a junction where I should have given way but I was not in the right headspace and almost ended up under a van. This was my fault for ballsing it up and so was the crash. I'm in a rough situation now however where I have spent £300 and need to spend another £80 minimum to do a session where it is purely focussed on a road ride, and I am in a situation where I don't know if I can afford any more than this last session for a while. I think I can pass next time so long as I go in fresh and ready for the session, however I am slightly worried that I won't pass next time and Im worried that will affect my riding on the day. Any tips please help, I want to ride so badly and after getting out on the road and going only 30mph I've realised how much I love it.
