Hey Lester. I loved the intro to the video. 😘 You could tell the UPS guy was nervous getting out of the truck with all the girls there to greet him. 😬 Yes, the gravel truck driver knew what he was doing. Lester, I had show horses, race horses, and pleasure riding horses. I would lunge them to get muscle toning, exercising, discipline, and to warm them up before riding. It just takes repetition and before long it will be easy. I wish Carl would take a chill pill.😮 So great to see IVY and Beverly back at LHL. I so wish Jami was able to ride Storm. There is nothing like riding your horse and bonding with them. ❤❤❤

Lester, you asked for advice about lounging horses and I would like to add a bit of my learning. Firstly, it is common knowledge to never wear sunglasses when ground working any animal especially equine as they read your eyes just as a foal reads its dam's eyes or a predator. We are predators. Also the darker the lens it mirrors and reflect the sunlight. All very scary and confusing for the horses. Running in mindless circles does nothing really, however changing pace, backing up, turning circles add to exercising the brain and keeping the horses concentrating on you, their herd leader. Just another suggestion that I learned with our various round pens is, if we placed conveyer mattin, ( we used second hand as much cheaper) to edge the fence panels stopped the sand from being pushed out or hoof/legs accidentally getting caught. I sincerely hope you find these things helpful to you and the horses.

Crazy that the UPS guy has to deliver at the LHL Ranch. I like that you are proactive in taking care of the yard, especially when you note that the need to drive on the ground is more likely than to make it green. Lester, you are doing quite well in your abilities as a lunger. It takes practice. The discipline includes breaking the horses from being barn sour.👍🏻

Ivy is there, for medical reasons and it's what you needed to do. Unstandable, why Beverly has come too! But, what is wonderful is too have different environments. To, move the babies, as well seasonal changes and depending on needs! That, truck driver knows his stuff!

Lester you should know, you have a great opportunity with having multi species for keeping your pastures healthy. Cows, horses, goats all eat different types of grasses and weeds. So rotating them on your pastures will keep weeds at bay.

It’s actually good to work with the shadow. It gets them used to it and eventually (hopefully) they won’t spook or be bothered by it anymore. Quiet barn=spooky horse, loud barn=quiet/calm horse.

I'm glad you got Ivy to a dry lot. If you notice Ivy's neck, it looks like she is getting a crease below her mane on the neck. In donkeys, if they are eating too many carbs, starch, they will start to get that. They is why in Oatman Az, you get a fine for feeding the donkeys, human food, etc. Just an observation since she is getting older.

Lunging can be great to get extra energy out of a horse and build their muscles but you should always start slow with a walk to trot to canter on both sides and then back down canter, trot, walk like people you need to warm up then cool down the muscles so they don't get damaged. Rita is still young so shouldn't really do more than 15/20 minutes with her until she's older and the others about 30 mins. It's also a great way for you to see if there are any problems with their legs as they move and it is good for bonding and they should learn to listen to you. It is very helpful to use a different sound for what you want like tut for walk, kissing sound for trot, cluck for canter and woah for stop and be consistent with it so they learn and understand what you want. Hope this is helpful to you xx

Evening Lester. The delivery driver was so good with the dogs as it must of been quite overwhelming having a whole group come to see him. They were so well behaved so sweet to see. My daughter has a CDL and she says it takes a bit to get used to, but you learn real quick how to coordinate the steps on a large dump to get it right the first time. Kind of like if I get this right on the first pass, I don't have to skip my break. 😄. She got second in class. She said the state tests are harder than the drive tests for license on semi's. Buddy sour. You're right. There's a lot of reasons to lounge a horse. It's not about making them run around like they're being chased. They learn to listen or pay attention. They can learn voice commands. It's a great training tool.

You can perfect gaits lunging, dressage, teach to stop, turn, back up, voice commands, teach them to come to you, reverse, cavaletti work , jumping, all kinds of things besides just running off energy so horse is good under saddle. It can establish a good tempo for gaits. Lots of things.

Lester- I usually lunge my horses (when I use to have them) in the morning- where it is cooler because in the afternoon it does get pretty warm. :D also check the neck area that is a good indication on weight. :D

It learns with discipline since you show that you can move her feet and make her move in the direction you want her to. 🥰❤️🥰 You should use a lunge rope and do not make them go to fast, rather you do it for a bit longer then you make her run like a crazy horse 🐎 but first and foremost you ned a halter and a long lunge rope.
