In this video we visit the second MRO in the AviaPrime group: Adria Tehnika in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This facility specializes in the CRJ and A320 family aircraft so we get up close and personal with a handle of these going through heavy maintenance checks. From deep inside the belly looking at the wiring behind the computers to looking at the critical structures that make up the cockpit window frames, there’s a lot of detail to enjoy here.
Our tour guide for this one has been here since 1974 so he’s seen nearly 50 years of development. Adria Tehnika has four hangars here and is currently considering building a 5th hangar which would increase their capacity a further 50%. These days the number of CRJs in commercial service is diminishing. Over in the A320 hangar, things are looking a lot busier.
Among the thousands of parts needed to make an airplane work - there’s also the more mundane pieces to consider, such as flooring. And they’ve got stocks of that too here of course, whatever their customers use, they stock it here so they can easily install it once the heavy checks are done with.
At Adria Tehnika they’ve also recently developed the capability to repair what’s called the mirror fitting and the pistol fitting, both of which are critical parts in the cockpit windshield structure. During heavy checks they will inspect the windshield frames and if corrosion is found, instead of replacing the full part, they can now repair it.

What a nice guy, imagine all the stories he could tell, all the history in that part of the world, why did that CRJ have an Ireland flag on it?

They asked us not to identify any customers but I’ll give you a hint, it’s an operator that flies on behalf of other airlines!

Fascinating, but scary as well when you see the thousands of parts, meaning thousands of potential failures, and yet day in / day-out they fly and take us safely to our destination ... I think it's a miracle and a credit to the people involved !

I work in a big MRO as an aircraft technician and watching this video after a long day at work! feels so great as i could relate to everything i do on a daily basis. Thanks man. We aircraft techs are always left behind and the hard work we put is unrecognized by mass people.

I wish Pavel would show more joy for his job.😊 He must be a dream to work for. Loved the video and would love to see more. Living in ATL would love to see the Delta ops center. They have Boeing, Airbus, CRJ, and Embraer so it would be neat to compare and contrast with the line guys who really know the ins and outs.

We know you love doing videos like this (especially being under that RJ that was on lifts) because we love seeing videos like this! One can see why the cost of these aircraft are so high to build and then that cost is relayed to us to fly in them. All aircraft, general aviation or larger, are expensive to operate. Thanks, due to this video, we see what it takes and I know I am thankful. Jim

Thanks! I'm sometimes amazed at how relatively cheap it is to fly after seeing all that goes into keeping them airworthy! Not to mention the complex day to day operations.

2:38 my love of aviation started in a maintenance hangar like this, crawling under CRJ and DHC-8. Flying non-rev meant I was always in the back, but I’d love having the engine next to my head 🛩🙃😬 The procedures for maintaining planes is very complex and organized, and ridiculously expensive 🤑

I don't know where their fleet is maintained, but it'd be interesting to go out of the commercial space: I'm wondering what behind the scenes looks like for UN Humanitarian Air Service or WFP Logistics. I think they still use an Ilyushin for food drops

They won't have changed them permanently. It's all down to the winds. Sometimes the southern route, which is less distance travelled, makes more sense if headwinds aren't bad.
