Those spiders have really strong nets. Seen similar ones in Hong Kong. You can throw large branches into them and they get caught.

Had one in the yard last summer here in Georgia. Absolutely gorgeous girl. She had a male in the web with her when we found her, but haven’t seen any this year. Could just be in the more ‘grown’ part of our yard we rarely go in, I suppose. I’m waiting to find a Joro or two in our yard, could be any summer now. Joro webs are fun to play with as well, both have exceptionally strong silk. Seems the Banana/Goldens have a paler yellow in their silk than Joros do, I love looking at their webs!

Must be webbed as fuck in there since those make large webs but must on the other hand be totally free of bugs though

We had these ALL OVER the (very humid) southern coastal area of NC. We also had lots of Argiope "writing spiders"/"zipper spiders" which were nearly as big as the Golden orb weaver... one major difference is the shape and color patterns of the spinnerette, along with the fact that golden orb weavers generally keep the same web for adult life (unless it is disturbed or destroyed), opting for repairs and "patch-ups," whereas the argiope "zig-zag"/"zipper" spider (named for the thick vertical "zig-zag" stabilimentum, in the center of its orb web), tends to eat, and "re-spin" its web in the middle of the night, though not always every night. Also, while the silk (especially in its egg sacks) has a golden tint, it is nowhere NEAR the deep-golden color of the golden orb weaver's silk! Ironically, I have a deep phobia, not so much of spiders, but of spider webs -more specifically, the physical feeling of them (same goes for catepillar cocoons!), yuck! However, I am absolutely fascinated by spiders, and watching them spin webs -especially orb webs! After working HVAC and electrical in the south, where I entered many spider-infested crawlspaces, my phobea became less severe, though i still carried a stick, or a piece of "s-"cleat or drive-cleat (used for fastening sections of metal ductwork) with me as a "spiderweb sword," as I called it... Some of the other guys feared the copperheads, but I'm less scared of deadly snakes than I am of harmless spiderwebbing... I suppose I always had a few screws loose!

@stevenmiller750510 ай бұрын
They get to about the size of an adult’s palm. You can keep them in large mesh cages, like ones for chameleons. They need high humidity and space mostly. I was feeding mine flies thrown into the webs. They are really cool I’d love some more one day!

Amazing! I saw your post on Arachnoboards -- did you do anything special to get the eggs to hatch? I really want to raise these guys and I found 2 egg sacs recently around Austin, Texas. Do you know if they have to overwinter to properly hatch? I would really love to keep this species
@stevenmiller75054 жыл бұрын
Hi there! So I literally just left the egg sack alone, and it hatched out maybe 2 months later? Shed was kept around 65f-80f. These really are amazing spiders! They need space and humidity though ha ha
